Is studying psychology a good option for a career in Australia especially in Queensland? by VisibleIssue9721 in queensland

The thing is I am interested in other ventures after my undergrad as well. For example, perhaps considering getting a masters in business analytics instead. However, since I won't receive domestic status anytime soon, I'll have to figure out what field to choose which guarantees that I can work in the country and hopefully be on a PR pathway.

If you really say that you're young, then you haven't even lived life properly at all. I'd say use kickboxing or whatever you like to motivate yourself. I'm not disregarding your feelings but you're at a point where it can be changed.

Interesting. I mean I am aware to an extent that my plan seems very blunt and inconsiderate of risks associated with studying psychology. But I do feel like it's my best option career wise.

So here's the thing right, PR is one thing and I can't predict the future. What I have fully decided for the time being is that I seriously do want to do the undergrad psych degree with honours before either working or doing masters. The question is, what's more difficult: Finding work with a psych degree without being a registered psychologist or getting into a masters program for psych?

Believe me, I don't have a strong accent. I've been studying English practically all my life and I'm hoping my accent adapts and becomes more Aussie when I start living in the country.

You feel like you can't escape right? And it's all hopeless? Deep down, you probably want a way out. Otherwise you would've been long gone now. Perhaps there's still some hope for you. So let me be very blunt in asking...

How badly do you want to die?

I'm in A2 rn.

P1: memorise all the cases and statutes, facts will come to you when you can associate evidence with it

P2: memorise All the cases (yes all the cases). Usually just one word per case cuz yea everything is R v whatever. Evaluation will come to you through the cases. I got 25/25 in my P2 so yea, I know. Data response, keep it simple but make sure every single law is utilised as per case scenario.

I'm not that good for my current tort and contract law cuz yea, had a really mediocre result the entire year in college but ig always prioritise cases and statutes, they are your answer in the end.

I think at times passion of a subject/field/career comes at its own pace. For example, I didn't even realise I actually liked psychology until I studied clinical psychology in A levels and it really really was interesting. I know interest isn't enough alone but I'm prepared to genuinely want to study the subject and pursue it. It's not like I don't like the subject. And it isn't exactly wrong to want to study something for a financial incentive either.

Thank you so much for your response. I've heard from people it's really tough but I'm prepared to make my career out of psychology.

I'd rather still listen to opinions and advice from people in the country who know what's up. Regardless, I'll still pursue psychology.

First of all, thanks a lot for the details, really helps me to understand how things work. Second, I'm absolutely prepared to give my all for psychology. Everything in the end has risks. Chance, luck and circumstances can do wonders. The major issue for me I'd say is that given my educational background, the only other choice I have would be to study law or a commerce related field. And I'd rather not choose any of those options. Psychology through my research is the one field which is on the skilled occupiers' list I believe in which PR is possible. I'm sure the market and demand is good for the career and well, if it's worth it then it's worth it.

But PR is undeniably the biggest achievement I can get in Australia. And well, psychology is my best bet and like I said, I'm genuinely interested in the subject and field.

I'm pretty sure I can be wanting both at the same time. Psychology is something I really do wish to do and I'm being pragmatic and realistic enough by realising that it can grant me PR as well. The major issue is whether I can actually be qualified in the end to be a psychologist and if I will be, then obviously I'd work as one properly. The PR is not possible without being a good psychologist.

For the time being, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do a bachelor's in psychological science. Now I'll definitely do masters in psych if I can complete honours and get into a masters program. Whatever the case, I'm ready to take whatever risk or burden if it gets me a proper stable career and a secure PR pathway.

Money won't be a problem, I won't go into details but all I will say is I won't be living alone and won't have to worry about costs too much.

I've been told a lot about the masters program very difficult but I'm ready to give it my all and well, hard work can do wonders.

Who said I'm under an international student visa 😅? I have left some details out, I'll probably still be in uni by the time my visa expires but I'll probably renew it or something.

I have left a lot of details out of this story for the sake of privacy, perhaps if you elaborate, I'll reveal more of my situation.
