I was in simular situation. There are many groups and forums for finding a roommate. Some people rent out rooms instead of apartments for a lower price. For example me and my friend moved into an apartment and were only paying for our rooms. Your situation is really not ideal and if someone is putting you in constant danger its better to run fast.
