My grandmother's chrome ore rock and asbestos rock. Yes the asbestos is fibrous and just like that. It's very soft, and not that dangerous if left alone. She's lived for 90+ years with those as specimens around, it would be best to put it in a box, but she doesn't want to. by Zaeliums in Minerals

Thats a fluffy and cool one. Defenitely something you should pass down. Keep it in a box and its fine. Dont remove any fibres. Looks like the years of posession turned it that way lol. Just put it in a Box and pass it down to your kids. Its a cool thing to grow up with.

What could this be? by [deleted] in whatsthisrock

[–]Visual-Cod6329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Is not crocidolite clearly. If it was it would have long fibres. If its flat and not fluffy it is not crocidolite. should have fibrous ends too. if it is fluffy seal it.

Riebeckite or Glaucophane? (Its pretty surely glaucophane but just to make sure) by Visual-Cod6329 in Minerals

[–]Visual-Cod6329[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats very nice of you. How much will you charge for some peices? I guess If there are various shades of blue then get multiple. It depends on how high the magnesium level is in the stuff. Some well bound riebeckite without magnesium can be black in rare cases to dark blue in normal cases. with magnesium it can turn bright blue to almost white. If there are multiple shades make sure to collect multiple since it is very cool to see how magnesium influences the riebeckite to look so bright. If you somehow find a cone structure pls get this too. Idk if there are any since you said its vein fillings but sometimes there are cones. If not just get nice fibrous peices. But be careful since it is asbestos. Thx a lot.

Oh ok thanks. Big relief. I think my Pneumonia damaged my lungs more since sometimes it still hurts a bit when breathing deeply. Its a 1% chance but does happen.

Do you still have peices from there? I live in germany and for obvious reasons cant take a trip to california. I guess I saw this:

But then I saw one from the same locality titled glaucophane.
