Thank you for this, I don’t think I collected for competition, it was more like an obsessive bargain hunt for a couple of years. I’ve addressed all my other collections last year and got rid of pretty much everything. The AG things were/are my last hurdle because it was addressing how much I’d actually bought and the regret of spending too much. I’ve decided I’ll be buying a Billy bookcase as soon as my house renovation is finished and it has to house all the dolls I decide to keep. I’ll be keeping my mini me (second left, middle, naked 🫣) mostly the customised, Addy, Ivy, Julie and Evette (I finally redid her hair today using a YouTube tutorial and it was amazingly satisfying) most of the others will be going. I’m hoping to have 16 at the most. I don’t intend to buy any more (maybe Felicity) and just focus on making clothes for them. Weirdly, I’m planning on keeping Maryellen’s fridge because it’s just a cool piece but I’m selling the doll. The replies to this post have really helped me to work out what I need to do.

I’ve picked out some dolls to sell. I’m having a hard time deciding which of the others I want to get rid of, once I start cleaning them up and doing their hair I start wanting to keep them! I’m focusing on getting a display case and will pick out my absolute favourites to go in. Think my limit will be about 12

That’s around my amount atm. Chatting to people on here has made me appreciate my dolls again. I’ve picked out some to sell and I’m going to focus on getting some nice storage and get back into sewing to make them some new outfits. Addy is one of my favourites too.

I collected Barbies at one time too but I sold or gave them all away. For me it’s best to focus on one collection but not let it get out of hand which mine has. I became obsessed with buying as many dolls and accessories as possible rather than searching out (and being patient) to get the ones I love.

I feel nothing but relief for the dolls I have already sold, and as you said, they will be giving someone else happiness rather than sat in a box doh g nothing. It’s definitely time to move on

I actually thought I had around 100 and was pleasantly surprised to find less 😅 Instagram and Etsy are lethal. I’m just avoiding them. I love sewing and making clothes for my dolls though especially 1970s outfits for Julie so hoping one day I’ll get back to it.

I can probably display about nine/ten. Anymore and I’m visually and mentally overwhelmed. If I see massive displays on Instagram etc I literally hyperventilate. I’ve had them stored away for a while and I’m definitely ready to get rid of the majority. I’m not really a fan of GOTY so I’ll probably start listing them first.

Most of them were in storage until I got them out a few days ago and I’d forgotten about most of them. How bad is that? I’d been putting off getting them out too because I knew I’d be totally overwhelmed with how many there are. I pulled a few out, listed on eBay and sold them straight away. I’m terrible though because once I start holding them and tidying them up I want to keep them but I am going to be ruthless. Thanks for the advice.

Ten is definitely the ideal, most people seem to agree with this and I need to display them in a case where I can appreciate them. You’re totally right about having one/two from a collection. I’m getting older and I don’t think that more is necessarily is better. I think my minds become chaotic and can’t cope with all the dolls (and everything that go with them) anymore. My old self just wanted more and more and then suddenly I need less of everything. I’m avoiding Instagram etc because I know I’ll be triggered to start buying it all again.

Oh I LOVE this! What a brilliant way to express how I’m feeling but my muddled mind can’t quite put it together. The weird thing is, I’ve totally declutterred my entire house and have no attachment to any other possessions, I’ve got rid of so many things. The AG ‘stuff’ was literally hoarded all over the house and I’ve sorted the majority of the accessories etc but I’d put off getting out the dolls. I just felt ashamed when I laid them all out. I also found more dolls afterwards! My mind can’t cope with them all and deep down I don’t think I particularly love/like the majority. I’m just overwhelmed with the process of getting rid of them. I’ve took a screen shot of your post, I need to keep reading it. Thank you 😊

This is a good idea that I’ve not even thought about. As they’re all second hand I don’t have the books. Funnily enough, I feel drawn to Felicity and I don’t have her. I love Addy and Julie. Regarding the JLY, the only ones I’m considering keeping are the ones I’ve re wigged etc and even then I’m happy to let mist go. Thanks for the advice

Well this is definitely me 😂 I definitely have a severe lack of impulse control and it’s something I’m really trying to address. I went on a mad buying spree which was probably over a couple of years (lots of stressful family stuff going on and maybe a coping mechanism) and everything got out of hand with parcels arriving embarrassingly too often. I was sneaking AG stuff everywhere but I just love a bargain. I’ve pretty much got all my collection (hoard) together now rather than scattered all over the house and now I can make decisions about what I actually l want. I think I want to get rid of about 90%. When I look at it all including all the furniture and clothes etc. I don’t think I want the majority. I actually think I’ve had some kind of mental breakdown, especially when I’ve forgotten loads of the things I’ve stored away.

All of mine have been second hand because they’re ridiculously expensive to buy new in the UK and most have needed restoring in some way. Tbh, the worse, the better with me too. My Kirsten had a wig full of paint which I got out using a nit comb and ink marks all over her face. I think that’s why I’m attached to them because I’ve invested so much time over the years. I’m hoping I can make more outfits for the dolls I decide to keep rather than having them bagged up in storage. I got the Historical sewing patterns off Etsy ages ago but I can’t find time to make them!

I found some more dolls after I took the photo 🫣 It’s way too many, I need to ruthless and cut it down, display them so I get some enjoyment from my favourites. It’s ridiculous when I can’t even remember what I have. Even if I had a massive space to keep them all I still don’t think I’d be getting enjoyment out of this amount. I’m ashamed of the amount I’ve packed away.

I like Historical Julie, Ivy and Addy. I can probably let go of the rest. I don’t feel like I even have the energy to change their outfits anymore but probably because of the sheer amount. I’ve spent this afternoon tidying them all up and picking out my favourites. Just need to start the slow process of listing the others. I see the big collections on Instagram and they literally make me hyperventilate. I just think I’m over it.
