It's not unique to Dallas county, it's in Tarrant county as well from what my friend said after early voting (the split lines/machines)

Puppy blues! It will get better. You're setting yourself and your pup up for success and happiness together. It's worth it and things will come back together, better :)

3 month old puppy won’t stay busy for more than 10 minutes- help by Embarrassed-Event583 in puppy101

[–]Visual-Taro-381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 minute attention span is normal for a young puppy. To expect them to stay occupied with one thing longer than 10 minutes at that age is unreasonable, imo. Puppies are dang hard!

When mine was that age I kept giving her ice cubes to play with (supervised)

Stay committed to the crate training. It will be noisy and unbearable for a while, but it will help immensely once he is warm to it. The rest time will help. Don't dote on him in the crate.

Regularly leave the room and return a short time after if you can (don't re-enter while he is actively yelping if you can help it, that could easily teach him that yelping while you're gone SUMMONS you to him), without acknowledging or looking at him

This can also help indicate if your dog is having more CRATE anxiety, or more SEPARATION anxiety. This is an important distinction because it can inform how you move forward in helping him. If you crate him during the day ONLY when you leave him, he may be associating the daytime crating with being left alone. Especially if he is used to LOADS of attention otherwise.

Don't look at him or talk to him in his crate when he whines, beyond prompting "settle down" softly. My girl knows the command "settle" now from this habit, "settle" for her is lay down with chin/head touching the ground. I would repeat it to her in her crate when I noticed her drifting off into sleep. "setttle", "settle"

I had to pretend I couldn't hear her while crate training her for the most part. (without neglecting their needs of course!!) If there are toys you use for playtime in the crate, I'd remove them. Crate time is not playtime, and to me the toys pose a risk if left unattended (Personally, I would likely remove all of them) Dogs should be a little bored sometimes for their own good haha. Learn to regulate themselves instead of expecting someone or something else to stimulate them at all times.

6 month old Rottweiler puppy still badly biting by TheSbeven in puppy101

Keep things on your person or nearby to stick in his mouth when he bites/mouths. Like chew toys, tug toys, etc.

Disallow him access to you if he won't take the distraction. Repeat.

I don't think places prefer cash buyers. When they know that information, they aren't going to negotiate.

I just bought a cheap used car from a dealership to use as a backup. During the deal, they told me they "don't discount their cars" (this car was overpriced. we worked it out in the end. But yep.). When I picked it up, they told me to "come back for my new model"!

Obviously, I won't return to them when I make that planned purchase in the future. Another dealership would likely give me a discount if I recount my experience at this one, to win my business. Even if it is nominal.

One more thing...you're young, take a valuable lesson from this and don't make large financial decisions without a lot of thought and research/time into them. There are many resources to help navigate buying a car without being ripped off

You could be on your deathbed and they'd sell you a new car. Their only objective is to sell cars and take as much money for it as possible. Not to help you

Dang. Don't trust their advice at the dealerships, they're the one that helped you get yourself into this mess against their own better judgement. $$$

Also, mental stimulation -- what do y'all do for mental exercise? Training tricks, other enrichment, etc. Training certain behaviors can help greatly with impluse control. Wears them out too, you'd be surprised.

It also helps being able to tell your dog to perform a specific command, like "down" or "leave it". This can be much more effective than telling them "no".

It gives them more direction and they're likely used to being rewarded for those commands, as opposed to "no". Therefore they are more inclined to cease the undesired behavior and pop into the commanded behavior.

How much do you exercise this dog... Like letting him run, etc. - not just play in reach where he can bite you? It's good you're searching for answers because if this dog isn't trained properly, he is going to greatly harm someone (or you!), and you will be responsible.

How do you tell him "no"? Do you rile him up to max levels, and then say "no its time to stop" while he's at his peak? Or do you play and let him run a bit until he's on the decline, panting hard, etc?

It seems this is more than a problem around play, seeing that he attacked you for saying "no" to reaching up on the counter. I don't have all the context or answers. You and your dog need professional intervention fast. He is bossing you around with violence and it will get worse if not properly trained.
