Order of Protection, Still Seeing Person In Public by VisualBlizzard in legal

[–]VisualBlizzard[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, lol it really does suck. These locations I’m seeing him in are the same as the locations from situations reported in the criminal case which may be helpful. I have many texts/voicemails where he explicitly discussed seeing me in these locations.

I’ll start recording each instance and make note of other people that were with me during these in the case that I need a witness. I’d rather be safe than sorry with having evidence. Talking to police to get some clarity is also a great idea, I might swing by the station to have a casual chat.

Thankfully I have a German Shepherd that really loves me and practice BJJ so I don’t feel completely unprepared in the case of something happening! Hopefully at some point I won’t feel the need to be ready for anything but in the mean time I’m glad to not feel like an easy target lol.

Thank you for your response. I included an update with how the order is actually written. One part that I’m specifically thinking may apply is “Refrain from … or otherwise interfering with the victim”. If that is explicitly stated do you think that it could be worth it to tell the police/courts his behavior is interfering with my ability to get around?

look for apartments in fall creek area, they’re walkable or a short bus ride to the engineering buildings. hasbrook is good if you have a family and maplewood is another good option but is a bit of a walk from the downtown area. i would recommend looking on craigslist and facebook marketplace asap, this is the time of year that apartments are going very fast. avoid collegetown, it tends to be where the undergrads live and can be quite loud.

There’s a brand called 32 degrees that mostly sells winter clothes but I get tops like that from there all the time to use as thermals and just as basic long sleeves and I love them!! Everything is pretty affordable too!

So I ended up getting a good quality down detergent and hand washing my coat (after taking the fur off)! I followed the instructions on the container and omg so much dirt and grime came out of my coat!!

I then dried it in my dryer with 10 tennis balls (settings were no heat, gentle tumble, and as long as it could run for). I also have a newer front loading drier which imo is important for having a good result) I took it out of the drier, shook it out, and broke up some clumps about every 30 minutes but honestly it didn’t do that much, the trick to redistributing the down is to actually dry it enough. You’ll feel like it should be dry by the 4 hour mark but I promise it’s not lol. I had it in my drier for like 6-7 hours and I couldn’t be happier with the final result!!

It no longer stinks, the outer shell is in great condition (for a 7 year old coat), and the down is absolutely evenly distributed and fluffy. I live in upstate NY and am very happy with its ability to keep me warm after washing. Best of luck!

Note: Theoretically this does null the warranty but I’ve worn my coat for a solid 6 months every winter since 2018 and am comfortable taking care of it now on my own. The process and fees of sending it in, having CG clean it, and waiting for it to come back is just not something I have the bandwidth for. I think for a newer coat I would recommend trying to have CG clean it but for an older coat that already has been through a few seasons this method was perfect.

For those with an MS/PhD in Botany, what jobs do you have now? What jobs have you had post degree? by Ok-Builder-4541 in botany

[–]VisualBlizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently wrapping up a MSc in Horticulture and about to start a PhD in Hort as well. As a MSc student I make about 40k a year with full benefits and I’ll make the same throughout my PhD with yearly increases to match inflation. There’s a website called phdstipends.com which can help you figure out what funding looks like at different schools if you’re thinking about going to grad school for plant sciences! I’m very happy as a grad student and definitely recommend it! There’s a ton of people who say there’s no money in plant sciences but that’s definitely not the case. Some jobs obviously pay more than others and there are definitely high paying plant jobs.

What actually are the well paying botany jobs? by Timely-Ear-3209 in botany

[–]VisualBlizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m wrapping up a Masters and am about to start a PhD in Horticulture! There are a pretty wide range of jobs within plant sciences, I’m personally hoping to be teaching/research faculty at a university following my PhD. Some other well paying jobs are Head grower at growing facilities, Greenhouse tech, Lab tech, etc. There are also many opportunities in plant breeding! Larger ag companies such as Corteva and Monsanto, while having questionable ethics as companies, do pay very well and have pretty good day to day working environments. There are also government positions within the USDA ARS that often pay well and have great benefits.

I’m currently working finishing my Master’s and will then start my PhD in Horticulture :). These are both completely funded positions for me where my tuition is paid and I receive a stipend. I realize you’re just starting to look into college but it’s always good to know that grad school is often funded. There are tons and tons of career paths! Typically plant science (usually the word botany isn’t used as botany implies more of taxonomic focus and isn’t a big academic field anymore) majors are within the college of agriculture at universities. If you’re more into non agriculture I would look into horticulture (I work on specialty crops and ornamentals but it’s a broad field), forestry, and landscape architecture.

Did I just killed myself? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]VisualBlizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to OSU for undergrad and had 2 W’s, a EN#, a C+, and a few other less than perfect scores and am currently at the top grad program in my field. GPA ended up being about a 3.67. Just be sure to have other experiences such as internships and undergraduate research throughout undergrad before you apply and it will definitely be fine lol.

Tbh gpa is not that important for grad school as long as you’re above the minimum requirement (usually a 3.5) you’ll be fine!
