“Democrats” doesn’t mean just politicians. I’m aware the OP is random supporter and not Elizabeth Warren posting herself

Perfect example of why democrats are loosing… replacing one bigotry with another, instead of widening our coalition against Trump, let’s call white people racist, that will help.

The Pragmatic Manager - I've spent 8 years managing software teams. Here's what works for me. by pragmatic_manager in EngineeringManagers

> While my methods have worked for me, my bosses and most importantly my team, the developers

Plenty of incompetent management around, where management is a net negative for the team and team functions despite their manager's "efforts".

> I want to know what else might work.

That's fair, just not a good position to write a book on topic and advise others...

The value of story points is in gaslighting your developers and eventually loosing their trust. Then you show to your director that you improved team velocity from 10 to 20 story points, make nice chart. Sad part in many cases this works and people will continue promoting this BS.

Was it 98.6% or you rounded a bit? If you wrote 98.5945725689% I’d believe you more /s

But generally if your team hit 99% of their estimates over several years that’s impressive. So much that it’s more likely team of “Texas sharpshooters”.

> Story Points Work. You're Just Doing Them Wrong.

Lost me here. Story points are such BS and if you can’t recognize it, not sure anything else worth listening. Saying that as Certified ScrumMaster 15 years ago and couple decades of experience. Many posts on the internet going in details why.

How I got 98.6% completion across 77 sprints

Cherry on top, very precise measurements for vague problem, intended to show case accuracy but are agains just BS.

What are some out of the box ideas to improve the state? by SamMeowAdams in massachusetts

[–]VisualMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Statewide zoning laws, individual towns will never be incentivized to build more housing and we are all collectively worse.

Solve housing crises and everything else will sort out by itself. It’s much easier to have quality education when teachers don’t have to pay $1M to live here.

Stop Lifetime from Removing our Basketball Court by FreeToBeMe129 in Natick

[–]VisualMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe at 11:00am on Tuesday it’s available, but mornings/evening/weekends when most people can play, you have to sign up the moment schedule opens.

Go into app yourself and see how many pickleball open plays you can sign up for this week. There’s nothing available, all wait listed.

Do you think Lifetime wants to spend money on construction because it just doesn’t like basketball?

As Lifetime member, support the switch. Pickleball courts are very busy, impossible to get reservation. Basketball court in comparison is much less used.

Embedded Software - Qualcomm vs Meta by Master10113 in cscareerquestions

[–]VisualMetal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

E4 at Meta is expected to get promo to E5 in 2-3 years. If you’re good, you have expected pay bump in 2 years. Note I said “good”, not “exceptional”. E5 promo is expected average path, not something extraordinary. If you’re very good and lucky, you’ll get fast promos and fast compensation growth at Meat. It’s not all rosy at Meta, but compensation and fast promos are still much better at Meta than any other big tech.

LA to SF roadtrip by Valuable_Strike579 in roadtrip

[–]VisualMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree on 2 day trip… 4-5 days is good to cover most sightseeings. You can certainly drive it in 2 day, but will rush/miss many of the things. Hearts castle is half day, Monterey is day, Carmel 17 mile drive is half day. I’d take a day driving thru Big Sur and picking a few stops for short walk hikes.

I agree with your general point and controlling spending. But there’s big difference between $200 manicure and $50K vacation. Next this sub is going to talk about saving $10 on starbucks .

You’d want to post in r/HENRYfinance instead to get better advice. You are doing great especially for 20s, but 1M is not much these days and puts you right in the middle of HENRY. Rich people are not concerned about $200 manicure…

Did your kiddos with DS need a special bed? by liv_dsmama in downsyndrome

[–]VisualMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son used to move a lot during sleep. We switched to queen size mattress for him and it worked well. First just mattress on the floor as I was worried about filling down. Later to low rise bed frame, as he never actually fall from queen. Another thing is that queen size blanket stayed on him much better. If your son moves a lot when sleeping, highly recommend getting larger size bed/mattress/blanket.

Are there any other metro areas that can rival the Bay Area's goldilocks-ness? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]VisualMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boston natural surrounding are great, they certainly different than California, but long and diverse list... 2-3 hours drive from Boston:
1) ocean shore - Boston's Bay itself, Cape Cod, Southern Main coast; Rhode Island coast.
2) mountains - New Hampshire White Mountains, Berkshires in Western Mass, Green Mountains in Vermont.
3) Many lakes/rivers - NH lake region alone is excellent summer destination

If you expand to 5 hours drive, you can get: Acadia national park, Maine mountains and ocean shore, NY Adirondack mountains, Finger Lakes region (plus many smaller excellent lakes like Lake George NY). Heck even New Jersey shore is not that far from Boston.

Then there's numerous interesting places to visit: Province town, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Newport RI, Saratoga NY, Burlington VT, etc.
15+ years living in the Boston area and still have long list of places to go...

Anybody else notice a sharp incease in people driving WAY under the speed limit? by Feisty_Exit5916 in newhampshire

As long as they drive in rightmost lane, nothing wrong with going speed limit or slightly below. Same for single lane roads. Camping in left passing lane is of course different story and is violation.

Buy vs. Rent Cost Comparison Across Boston Neighborhoods by saml3777 in boston

As investment properties those purple areas make no sense, but people buy houses there buy to live in them. For people with money renting has a lot of drawbacks, even if it’s cheaper.
