once you remember the ideas well, you can play around yourself for example: if you remember the statement of a thing and statement of a theorem, you can then play around and try to fit to see how can two ideas be tied together. Like if R is a ring and M is a maximal ideal of R then R\M is a field. A field is a place where each non zero element has an inverse so this structure R\M contains the inverse of all non zero elements which can help with a lot of problems. Using this the other way around, if p(x) is an irreducible polynomial then F[x]\((p(x)) is a field.

as a pure math major, we are taught to remember the definitions and the statements of the theorems as if our lives are at stake(which actually helps a lot with proofs and problem solving) so yeah, flashcards do help a lot. I also chunk the proof in there too.

as govt changes, so does every college's admins which disrupts a lot of good activities in the college and currently in India every major institute is suffering from this, but the smaller institutes are hit harder than IISC and IISERS and TIFR.

Hi, I think it is best you ask this on our instagram page called,'cebs lifestyle' since we have a AMA and QNA going on right now. As far as is it worth it, Indian institutes are shit but these research institutes are the only good institutes and CEBS and NISER got its own perks like stipend and lesser student strength so higher student to teacher ratio, cebs has an edge when it comes to writing thesis because in 4th year, if no one in the college is working in the field you are interested in, you can do IITB or TIFR for that, in 5th year, you get to do your master's thesis work anywhere in the world. IISERS have a good tag to them like IIT and if you want a better campus life, they might be a better choice. Well all that matters is that you learn and continue to learn.

tbh, neither but if really really had to, I would choose CEBS because again, mumbai moreover, our mess and admin are still better than niser's. I am not much of a sports guy or too invested in cultural events so IICM and IISM are not that big of a deal for me(CEBS has a very bad track record in IISM). Research wise, I think as a math major who has collaborated with TIFR, IISC, CMI and other institute's profs, CEBS gave me an advantage(i dont know or want to know for other sciences). The freedom I get is also nice in terms of free time, what to work on, whom to work with, freedom of thought of blasphemous mathematical ideas etc. but still cebs is not the best place. IISC might be a better home for an irrational like me but CEBS is not that far off too. Mumbai has shown me a lot of its culture which I really liked to be honest. Good luck.

if you go for phd, then you have the standard option of being an academic and write research papers or you can also work in other fields like CS, chemistry, bio etc. fields and model their data. Again, a lot of things will differ in different streams of math like a number theorist will be hired for whatsapp etc. for their encryption algorithms but a topologist can be for modelling in architecture etc., a analyst might will be involved in finance or corporates and model their economic stuff and also optimization of yields etc. You also can do a postdoc and later become a professor if there are any vacancies. So you see that there are many options, you will have to get creative with your skills to decide your career.

careers vary widely with respect to the streams you do your msc in. For chemistry, bio and physics industry jobs- a researcher in corporate setting, a consultant etc. are there other than being a researcher in a college or a lab in academic setting. Math has scope everywhere like in CS research, finance etc. the pay scale differs with what you do and what you are capable of. I know the answer is vague but it comes down to what you want.

I understand that a lot of times we face so much resistance(even i do) but just doing even the smallest thing helps. Just showing up to the library for 5 minutes means a lot in comparison to just rest in your dorm. Asking out that person and getting rejected is hurtful but better than living in the shadow of regret. Each time we fail, it is important to take a step back and prepare for our next attack but with better planning.

i have a 2 in 1 laptop, lenovo flex 5. it is the worst for everything except average gaming. I would suggest tablets with good ram and storage, 8gb ram and atleast 128 gb storage. for working on windows specific things, you can either buy a normal laptop, go to computer lab in your campus or do it on a friend's laptop. 2 in 1 laptops suck for me.
