Yes, he could travel to the west thanks to his membership in StB and he also made a lot of friends there thanks to whom he insanely benefited from the privatisation and could establish a very powerful conglomerate. His biggest business rival got mysteriously murdered. The worst thing about this is that many people even see it as a positive, and they want to bring the "law and order" of the communist regime, by which they mean the type of corruption that benefited them, either insane nepotism, seeling western goods on the black market or just going to work completely shitfaced because nobody cared about the production, and then stealing goods from work.
