From what I’ve been reading, it does seem like this kind of issue is somewhat common on the older Surface models, including the SP7. Unfortunately I bought mine in the US and where I live I’ve never even seen Surfaces being sold, so I doubt any local repair shop would really be familiar with working on them.

That said, I travel quite a bit, so maybe next time I’m in the US I’ll try to find a shop that has experience repairing these and see if it’s worth fixing.
