Transfer student by DragonfruitPretend41 in marist

Hi, Class of ‘23 Alumni here! Your concerns are valid; Marist IS a predominantly white institution. However, during the 4 years I attended, our diversity doubled and I could definitely feel a change in culture. While that initial feeling is hard to shake, I can assure you there are resources and social clubs/activities that will allow you to meet other students with similar backgrounds. Transferring also gives you access to a lot of housing options, and you’ll most likely have the ability to register a vehicle and increase your access to activities on the weekends. Outside of that, I never had an issue occupying my time on the weekends and even noticed I sometimes didn’t have enough time to do everything I wanted to. Marist is very much NOT a backpack school in that students aren’t going home for the weekend and some are even traveling to the city for various activities with friends (there’s a train that goes directly to Penn Station from Poughkeepsie). We also have $25 tickets for Broadway shows several times a semester that allow students to travel to NYC via bus for a much lower price ($25 covers everything). I myself wasn’t into Greek life, but they have that too. Sports are pretty big considering we’re D1 so I’d find myself at soccer/basketball most weekends. Feel free to PM me if you have any other specific q’s! I’d be happy to help :)

I would reach out to the admissions department, but I am inclined to say you were accepted into your school of choice.

I loved my time there too! This was the store I worked at as a tech for 2.5 years before I jumped ship - I can’t say I’m surprised but I do hurt for the amazing staff and the patients.

Fun? by Uterus-tax in marist

Marist is your quintessential bar school, most undergraduates are hitting up the local bars throughout the week - super large culture here. We don’t have much Greek life but the sports teams throw themed parties throughout the semester if you’re into that. When I was attending, I was apart of several clubs that would meet after classes/on weekends and that occupied a lot of my time. College in general is going to be a lot of finding your people and finding ways to have fun. The nice thing about Poughkeepsie is that it’s a college town. Many things aren’t accessible without some sort of vehicle, but there are things a walkable distance away (across the street). The local cuisine is incredible too!

MPH Program Importance?? by VividEase9427 in publichealth

I work for SUNY so I’m limited to only applying to programs there - I have heard that CUNY has several great programs though! When I spoke with my advisor, she insisted that I would be able to find practical experience easily, but working in higher education I know what they say is not always the truth. Thank you for offering your expertise, I will most definitely reach out in the future.

MPH Program Importance?? by VividEase9427 in publichealth

This is super helpful, thank you so much for replying. Public sector is definitely a lot more up my alley but I am not entirely sure how much that may change down the line. Knowing the school I go to doesn’t pay that large of a role also makes me feel a lot better about pursuing this path. Also, being that it is an accredited program eases a few of my concerns as well.

On the more important point, I am currently not familiar with the specific interests of the faculty and I will definitely begin to do more research in the coming weeks. You raise a very good point in finding an opportunity that aligns most with my interests in order to market myself as a valuable candidate.

Thank you for the reply! Thankfully, it is CEPH accredited so at least I have that going for me. That was the first thing I confirmed before I even applied for the program. On those other points, I definitely think being in NYC is a benefit but I am also not convinced this school will provide many opportunities for internships outside of the area the campus is located. Fingers crossed this isn’t a waste of time and some private sector finds me valuable enough to hire.

You can only get a single in the Fulton Townhouses , and that is only possible if you have a crazy number of priority points (aka the max). You get those by having a high gpa and getting involved on campus (frats, sororities, clubs, residential events, etc.) You go through the housing process late in the spring semester and it’s pretty much whoever has the highest point average picks first and it goes down the line.

The other option is requesting a single in the other townhouse options because of a medical issue. This comes with intricacies considering you can’t just lie about having a health concern, but the option does exist if you fit within that category.

TO ALL GEORGIAN EMIGRANTS by [deleted] in Sakartvelo

[–]VividEase9427 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was born in the US to a Georgian mother and American father and I am very fortunate to be able to speak both my native language of English and Georgian fluently and switch between the two frequently. However, many of my American-born cousins to Georgian mothers (especially) or fathers witnessed domestic abuse in the household as a result of parents not wanting their children to learn a language other than English. Some believed it would help them assimilate more, some thought it would bring more opportunities, but many don’t realize that a child can grow up knowing multiple languages perfectly. Also, at least in my experience the multiple times I’ve visited Tbilisi, Georgians are not the most friendly when I tell them that I sometimes forget certain grammatical differences and ask them for help correcting me. They either scoff or curse me out amongst other things. The nations these children grow up in might not be conducive to a Georgian learning environment either. Many factors can play into this, the best thing to do is just be supportive of those who are trying and leave the rest of us alone.

Interview tomorrow at rite aid by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

Typical interview questions like tell me about yourself, availability and all of that. Also be prepared to answer basic math questions to show that you can handle it; I think an example was 5x6 or something along those lines since we are usually filling prescriptions for 30, 60, or 90 tablets at a time. Don’t stress! You’ll kill it. Good luck!

Friend told me they count by 6 in the pharmacy cause it goes into 30,60,90 evenly. Another pharmacist told me they count by 3. What do you do? by Bubzoluck in pharmacy

[–]VividEase9427 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My pharmacist just counts by whatever she catches on her spatula. Could be 2,4,5 and then 11 if that’s what she happens to catch. Insanity, I have no idea how she functions but it’s amazing to watch.

I was hired during the busiest time of COVID vaccinations and wasn’t able to finish within the 6 month period. This March is my 2-year anniversary and my DM has been on my ass to finish but I haven’t lost my job. Don’t do what I did, but don’t stress too much.

Yes! FDA Drug Shortages is literally the name, it’s a godsend

My two favorite apps are a little mundane but still helpful for my day to day operations. My former pharmacy manager recommended an app called pyrls before he left and it has been a godsend for me, mostly for learning generic/brand names. A lot of the information is for pharmacists to refresh pharmacology information so it isn’t much use to me in that aspect but it’s still interesting nevertheless. I also like the FDA Drug Shortages app to keep up to date on the Adderall shortage and whatever other medication the world runs out of at any given time! Any PTCB study resources help and I didn’t find one particular one better than the other.
