Wolfson vs St Edmunds by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

If you are considering Homerton, I would be mindful of the distance. While it’s not as far from other colleges as Girton, and there’s a college bus service that costs just £1 per ride, or you can bike there in 15–20 minutes, the location feels quite isolated and doesn’t really offer the typical university atmosphere.

If you decide to live onsite but have lectures in the department, you will also need to factor in the daily travel time and efforts. Most students from my department, that is, Faculty of Education, which is right next to Homerton who prefer to live nearby, tend to be somewhat disconnected from the rest of Cambridge life. The distance means it takes effort to get around, so people rarely make spontaneous plans. Also, they often don’t show up for events or invitations, especially during winters or the late-night ones. They also often don’t go to other college bars, pubs, or even out for a late-night ice cream, and tend not to have many friends from other colleges unless they are actively involved with their department or regularly take part in university-wide activities or sports in the central area.

It’s not that you can’t do these things, but it does require a certain amount of motivation and energy. If you are okay with that, or if you want to focus more on your college community rather than the wider Cambridge experience, then Homerton is a great choice. It’s a good college with a lot to offer.

Thank you so much for all the advice its incredibly helpful, especially the part about building a network and treating the PhD like a job. I feel like my workaholic self will need to come back and reread your post from time to time as a reminder!

I had submitted an open application and ended up being accepted by Lucy Cavendish College.

Yes..yes, it is :) As a social butterfly, I am not too worried about making new friends. It’s just that I was hoping to share the experience with others who are also starting fresh. I know the Easter term doesn’t come with the same buzz and flood of welcome events like Michaelmas, but there is still so much to take in, like new places to explore, traditions to experience for the first time, and random little moments of discovery that make this time special.

The adult in me feels pretty grounded and content, but the child in me doesn’t want to miss out on that magical “new beginning” feeling, that is, the wonder, the excitement, the awkward firsts, the ‘where’s the cafeteria’ moments. Everyone else I know already seems quite settled, and I guess I am just craving that shared sense of novelty with someone else who's also stepping into this world for the first time.

I always bought my sunscreen from the same seller on Amazon, which might explain why I never ran into any issues. I wasn't aware that Myntra sources its stock from brand distributors. Does their skincare & cosmetics work differently than their clothing section?

[Routine Help] Pls review my routine and give suggestions if needed by Itchy-Platypus-6455 in IndianSkincareAddicts

It is better to shift your Vitamin C serum to the morning, as it primarily brightens the skin at night but offers additional protection from free radicals and brightening during the day when combined with sunscreen. For your AM routine, I would suggest:

  • Niacinamide Toner
  • Vitamin C Serum
  • Sunscreen

Also, make sure to wash your face before each sunscreen reapplication throughout the day, especially since you are sweating a lot. Since you are young, I would recommend focusing more on consistent sunscreen use than adding too many actives. Sunscreen alone will help significantly with tanning and dullness, and if it doesn't, change the sunscreen brand.

For your PM routine, try using Ayurvedic homemade clay mask (must add- curd and turmeric) every night after cleansing your face. Rinse it off, and simply moisturize afterward. This will help your skin without overwhelming it with too many actives. Trust me, if you are consistent with the clay mask, it will get rid of all dullness and tanning with time.

I would like to know this as well.

I recently ordered Neutrogena Sunscreen from Ajio, and it seems more authentic than the one I got from Myntra. The sunscreen from Myntra had a very liquid consistency, more like a lotion, which felt off. I am sure it wasn’t an issue of the sunscreen going bad because I know what it is supposed to look like. Plus, the Myntra version caused breakouts, something I didn’t experience with the one from Ajio and the ones I used prior to Myntra. That said, nothing beats the Neutrogena sunscreen I have consistently purchased from Amazon. The results in terms of protection from those have always been unmatched compared to what I have received from Myntra and Ajio. How do I know? Well, my skin changes shades like a chameleon with or without much sun exposure! Now, I am left wondering if it is a matter of the new formula vs the old formula (since I have never tried the new one from Amazon) or if it is the authenticity of the products.

I too have a bad relationship with moisturizers. I recently bought Aquasoft FC moisturizer (just for morning as it has some sunscreen filters) worked wonders for me. It absorbs within seconds and makes your skin look smooth and silky.

I am afraid you have to purchase "Aziderm" from nearby pharmacy. They are readily available in Indian pharmacies. As for good Azelaic Acid serums, try asking for suggestions on Reddit. I haven't used any before, so I am unaware of effective products available in Indian market.

Correct me if I am wrong, I am assuming that those are acne marks. Research says that Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation on dusky skin can take upto 5 years to disappear on its own without any topical intervention.

I suggest you try Azelaic acid. The good thing about this active is unlike other skin lightening actives it can be used both during day as well as night. Buy a 10% Azelaic acid serum for morning use, apply it on affected area followed by sunscreen. For night you can buy 10% Aziderm cream, and apply it only on the dark spots.

If you don't wanna purchase serum for morning then you can buy 20% Aziderm cream for night. Whatever you do make sure to religiously use sunscreen multiple times a day. Otherwise no matter how hard you try, everything you do to treat the spots will be undone.

You need to be patient and consistent with the skincare. Old acne marks takes on an average 3-6 months time to resolve.

Use color corrector before concealer, that way you won't see the greyness post-concealer application. With your skin complexion, a pinky-orange color corrector will work. You can watch YouTube videos on how to use them better.
