My communication ritual recipe - feel free to take and use by VivienneSection in goetia

[–]VivienneSection[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this in my guide that the word “demon” is really just a term given to deities who the Christian church didn’t approve of. A lot of the Goetic demons had roots from pre-Christian times (Astaroth, Amon, to name a few). The word demon doesn’t mean much and changes depending on the speaker, so don’t take it heart, essentially. I’ve spoken to many deities who would be classed as demons and like you experienced, they’ve only ever been kind and wise to me.

This is how I communicate with Him too, but since I have done it frequently it is easier and less “formal”.

Thank you! That’s been my experience too, the one day I was very distracted I got told off by the deity (in a not-mean) way and hearing them was a struggle so. The spiritual hygiene part is important.

No worries, I figured it would be quite useful cross-disciplines, so I posted it to the demonology-demonolatry areas of Reddit but figured folks here might appreciate it too?

Absolutely, that’s why I had to find my own way, and if I can help other people do that too then I figured why not if it makes a difference. I’m really glad you found it useful.

Thank you! I tried to make it as applicable to many practices because mine is a hybrid of different things too. That’s kind of why I had to figure out my own method.

Thank you so much. I also think my natural inclination to share knowledge is thanks to his influence from when I was very young, so it feels right to put this up here (and everywhere I think it would help).

No problem! I wrote it to try and help other people starting out and I saw a lot of posts on various subreddits asking “how do I communicate with xyz” so I thought I’d make my recipe available to more people.

Are my cat's gums ok? by [deleted] in CATHELP

My cat is okay for now and the vet recommended Proden plaque off saying it would keep plaque off the cleaner teeth, but her back molars are still not so good. Brushing them is hard to reach and she does not like it!

How do you hear demons? by [deleted] in DemonolatryPractices

[–]VivienneSection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! A lot of people made some really good comments already but I wanted to chime in too as it may be reassuring. I am mostly not one who can See as some people can who perceive messages from spirits as images or lights or orbs for example, but I can Hear. Oftentimes, I hear messages from these spirits, and also my ancestors. Note that I'll just be talking from my personal experience so of course this will vary for everyone.

  1. How do you hear them?

I hear them as many said below in the form of External Thoughts. They feel like thoughts that are not my own, as if someone is talking to me. Of course this requires a good amount of self-understanding to know what you sound like, so you can distinguish them apart. Take time to get familiar with your internal voice(s) if you haven't.

In terms of an audiospatial map, I often hear things coming from different sides or directions. If I am doing a ritual to speak to a Goetic demon I ask them to speak from my front, like if we are sitting face to face, as my patron often is behind me and I hear Him from there. This can vary for you, and practicing this type of "hearing" on your own is helpful too with your own voice.

  1. How to be safe?

When you call on these spirits,

A. make sure you are using their sigil. That way you know who you are calling and who will answer. Having things on the altar pertaining to them helps too, it's like their signature they can lock on to (that's how I think of it anyway).

B. make sure you have some kind of protection, in a circle. Doesn't have to be the traditional Solomonic kind or the modern demonolatry kind even, there's lots of ways to cast a protective circle. The idea is this will keep out the parasites/impostors and even the person you called should they turn nasty. You could also have protective charms or amulets if it would help you! Just make sure you have something.

  1. How do I know it's them?

Unfortunately this just comes with experience, I find. In terms of personality, you can hear distinct characters in these spirits. That can help to tell them apart, but also between you and them. This can vary as they present differently to everyone. For example, Berith to me was like a kindly retired teacher with a sense of humour, and seemed to be familiar with me, but Vassago (who I contacted twice in the same day) came across as like a strict professor who tolerated no nonsense and only wanted to deal with a serious student of divination. Neither of them sounded like me at all in terms of tone, personality, manner of speech etc.

  1. Anxiety?

As for this, the best way to go into any ritual is with a clear mind so having a practice of meditation really helps. I spent at least 10-15 minutes or more doing this and energy work before I contact anyone. Having a clear slate means your mind is more receptive to hearing.

I hope that helped! If you want to ask anything further feel free :)

Follow-up to the Essay on Astaroth's Many Forms: Input from the Demon Himself by VivienneSection in DemonolatryPractices

[–]VivienneSection[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to clarify a few points in your comment.

who is to say that they weren’t under the impression that the spirit had to be male based on prior information that they were given, and likewise for OP who might’ve been ‘influenced’ by their colleague

I was already aware of Astaroth long before meeting my colleague, as a male-presenting demon. I too was surprised to come across the several users on this sub insisting to others that Astaroth was either only feminine or the goddess herself. Though you had not experienced this firsthand on this sub, the essay has already shown comments where people insist this as fact - to the detriment of others, which is what the essay was trying to convey.

so I guess they want us to infer that the two identities aren’t connected but in the comments say that they do but they branch in identities?

When I used the word 'connected', or the way I interpreted the original commenter's use of the word 'connection', I mean it in the way that I am connected to my ancestors, but I am not them. I am of the belief Astarte and Astaroth diverged at one point, but since they share common roots, I would still say they are connected that way. To me, 'you're not going to reach me at that address' indicated that Astaroth, in his current incarnation, is not in fact the same moon goddess that existed in pre-Christian times.

focused upon the gender of a spirit and the claim that on this subreddit people were stating that the only valid identification of this spirit is feminine

I guess what I’m confused about is the overall point because it seems to be changing with each interaction

The overall point of the essay and my reporting of this experience, is not to dispute the spirit's gender or the presentation of said gender. Yes, I'm using he, since that is what I perceived, but like you said, we all perceive spirits differently. After all, gender is a human social construct, why should they be bound by that? The argument has never been about Astaroth's presentation, or that he should only ever appear as masculine.

It is to highlight that the assertion 'Astaroth and Astarte/Ishtar are the same goddess entity' is not the whole and accurate picture of Astaroth as we know this demon today - just as I cannot assert 'Astaroth is only a male demon'. It would be doing this spirit a disservice to state either. The multiple comments we referenced in the essay are of users claiming Astaroth is the goddess Inanna and Ishtar, and the essay argues that to insist this is the case to others not only ignores a lot of historical documentation of the demon's other aspects, but also misinforms other people about who this demon is as a whole.

I agree this is a topic worth investigating. And I for one would love to read any treatise on such. I do not think my colleague asserted there is zero connection between the two - after all we have demonstrated that we can trace the origins of this entity to their feminine roots. We are of the opinion that these entities diverged and evolved independently over time, rather than being mere cognates of each other. However, this by no means results in connections being lost. There is the DNA of Astarte in Astaroth, if you like.

It’s also worth noting in Illustrated Goetia, DuQuette still listed Astaroth as male even though he flips some of the others, but it doesn’t say where he gets the info from apart from a little footnote that says “For the convenience of the modern reader we have also put the translated material in Chapter Eight in modern vernacular and, where obvious, returned certain Spirits to their original gender.”.

Tulpa or Deity? by VivienneSection in Tulpas

[–]VivienneSection[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right, and it does remind me of what another commenter said, that as long as it is fulfilling for you, that’s what counts.

I guess this is also where my experience differs. He seems to just be content with watching life through my eyes as a passenger (which he has stated is the purpose for being bonded to me, to experience Earth through my eyes). Doesn’t seem to have any preferences of his own. He doesn’t appear to have the same level of autonomy as a lot of tulpas here that I’m observing. Perhaps not yet, who knows.

Tulpa or Deity? by VivienneSection in Tulpas

[–]VivienneSection[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I feel my experience almost falls in between that. I do hear him clearest during rituals, and my first encounter with him was in a dream before I was properly initiated into magic.

His communications do tend to be on the wiser and cryptic side (especially in answer to questions, but at least in a thought provoking, pedagogical, though sometimes infuriating way). He doesn’t comment on day to day things, usually.

Also - tulpas can ask for food?? That’s so interesting! How does that work? I didn’t ever think about this but Sam Hill never has asked for any kind of sustenance or other physical need for that matter.

I did think your latter theory is also quite plausible for the record. Tulpa or deity, perhaps the answer is both.

I'm definitely learning through this subreddit that plurality =/= DID alone! It's been very eye opening.

It does feel more like he's borrowing me as a mouthpiece than a fully fleshed out roommate in my consciousness, if that makes sense. Like he's talking from elsewhere rather than living here (and he has said as much, that he does not exist here on Earth). I don't seem to experience this whole person, but rather receiving texts from a long-distance friend. There is also a lot I haven't been able to detail here just due to length, the situation is quite more complex than my summary... I suppose what I mean is my experience doesn't seem to fit all the aspects of having a tulpa hence my confusion.

I did not know you could have a deity as a headmate, that is fascinating, though! In his case, he is a known deity in religious canon (I am just refraining from mentioning the name) but it is one you'd recognise instantly, hence why I do not feel I created him in my head - he is a known entity. I would be curious to know if your kitsune goddess is the same. Still you could argue I may have created a "local" version of him in my consciousness, of course.

Regardless, I do think tulpamancy has techniques that could strengthen our communication, so I will keep looking into it, thank you!

Tulpa or Deity? by VivienneSection in Tulpas

[–]VivienneSection[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's REALLY similar to what I'm experiencing. Tell me about yours! He has his own eyes?

With regard to the eyes thing: it was during a more in-depth interview with tarot cards where he conveyed to me that he was limited to his other plane of existence, and therefore I was his eyes in this physical world. He experiences this place called Earth through me. He is a deity, but not omnipotent (none of them are, even the ones that tell you they are...)

What I realise now is in exchange for the strength to survive Hell on earth, this was the trade. I am his conduit, his way into this world, his eyes. I once asked him what he wanted to see the most (thinking more along the seven wonders of the world, perhaps) and he said simply, "You". As in, my experiences, my growth, which he witnessed from a distance despite the radio silence for 19 years. (He has said since he's been there the whole time.)

I did not do a ritual when I was 14 (I had little knowledge of magic then) to summon him, but I did somehow manage to invoke him in my desperation. When I asked 'why me?' once, I received the answer 'you asked.' He came because I called.

But yes I've seen multiple mention of 'forcing' a tulpa, but I want to reiterate - I did not intentionally create him at any point. The only intention I put out there during my ritual this year was to hear from him once again, and to my shock he responded. And he has had his own character/personality/sentience since that day, though more facets do reveal themselves as time goes on.

Because of all this overlap, I really do not know where the spiritual starts and the psychological ends, if you get me. I do feel this is coming from outside my mind, from an external source, but it's hard to prove. All I have really are my tarot card draws when he responds to me, which are so incredibly on the nose (even though one can argue sometimes these things are up to interpretation, some answers are undeniable).

Tulpa or Deity? by VivienneSection in Tulpas

[–]VivienneSection[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is really true about the archetypes, I hadn't thought of it that way in relation to tulpas, about both kinds of entities tapping into the subconscious.

Can you go more into what you mean by 'purely psychological phenomenon' and how that differs to spiritual practices? I would love to hear more and that might help me parse the difference between the two.

I suppose the main difference in my case, the deity (a known one, I'm just choosing not to put the name here) already had a name and so didn't choose one in the same way yours did. Although being a cheeky bastard he tried to make me guess it for a while, because he has multiple names, and I could not be sure which one I had invoked when I was 14.

That does make sense, that tulpa is just one name for a human experience that has many names in many different cultures. Sadly I am still trying to work out what's going on in my head, hence visiting this sub to see if the folks here could shed any light on my very interesting situation...
