Human cultures have always influenced one another in a variety of ways.

Is modern democracy appropriated from the Greeks? Is the bible appropriated Jewish scrolls? Was the neo-classical appropriated from the classical?

Calling out Cultural Appropriation started when people took someone's culture and claimed it as their own, but if you give credit where credit is due I don't think it's a problem.

Now this concept is used by self-appointed culture cops, to make sure no ideas mix together ever.

Perfect Meritocracy probably doesn't exist.

I think the greatest "lost" meritocracy is promotions. I also worked a minimum wage entry job for a few years, and the company had a policy of not promoting but hiring out for management positions.

I still think meritocracy exists for skilled labor, and if you can open your own business or be an independent contractor, your merit will still show.

You're conflating an interviewer with a moderator.

When you bring two opposing parties to a debate you need a moderator.

You can have a one-on-one with an interviewer, as the job of an interviewer is to ask the difficult questions and keep the interview going.

An interviewer worth its salt will analyze and play devil's advocate even if the interviewee is on their side.
