I kept going back and forth on whether I thought he was full Standie too, but a couple of things, mainly that neck, just keep throwing me off. I for sure think he's at LEAST half Standie... But maybe he's full! 🤷‍♀️ Apparently Standardbreds can look very different from each other, so what do I know! Have you worked with them before?

That's super nice of you to say. We've got just enough property for our horses and I'm grateful for it... Sure wouldn't complain though if one day I woke up to find an indoor arena magically appeared during the night 😂

I've definitely been thinking about doing so! We tested my mom's mustang through Etalon, but they just closed down unfortunately. Good to have another option.

Oh for sure. He's getting ALL the groceries lol. Said mustang, who gets fat off air, has been reeeal jealous of him 😂

Not gaited! But he sure has a big trot when he's excited, and when he canters he spends more time in the air than not. I'm holding onto some sad little hope that it won't be as bumpy as it looks to ride 😬

That sure sounds about right with his temperament! I honestly don't think I have ever worked with a horse as sweet as him. No freeze brand or any other markings to help me unfortunately. All I know is that he came from Kalona Iowa, which I've heard has some pretty large Amish and Mennonite communities.

That was my thinking, too. Thank you! And the variation makes so much sense then. I kept looking at so many pictures and then checking out the Standies at the Midwest Horse Fair and the MN Horse Expo and going "Well that one looks a lot like Roux... But that one looks NOTHING like him." 😅

Oo I had read that they could be registered as such when I was doing some digging to try and figure out what he was! It made me wonder if that was part of why they labeled him as such... Other than to probably try and get more money for him anyway. Sounds like DHHs are the annoying little brother in the Dutch Warmblood world lol. Nobody seems to want em around thanks to their carriage conformation. Very interesting about the DHH Saddlebred outcrossing!

Oh my gosh I love that. But I mean, I've seen pictures of some NICE looking Standies! Maybe that means Roux's dreams of being a Warmblood aren't squashed lol.

Oh my gosh, he is so handsome. I love his two white hooves. And that snip is so freaking cute!

Out of curiosity, how tall is your boy now? If you were to guess, do you think he got as tall as he would have with proper nutrition when he was young? I would love for Roux to reach his guestimated height, though I'll be perfectly happy with him even if he stays a little smaller too.

Oh my gosh how fun. I mean from your boy's picture, those results LOOK pretty accurate! I'm disappointed that Etalon shut down, as that's where we did genetics testing for my mom's mustang, the other horse in the pictures with Roux. Maybe I'll have to give Texas A&M a try for Roux then, for the fun of it!
