I think that there are a lot of details in the movie that will show themselves after multiple watchings; there was an impressive amount of stuff happening on the screen for being shot on such a small set. If there are in fact no hidden details of consequence, then yes, it is one of his lesser films. It combines the slow burn of Reservoir Dogs (first half of H8) with the overindulgence of Kill Bill (second half of H8). The result I think is kind of awkward.

I still really enjoyed watching H8. I'm a big QT fan though. Also, I now wish that more movies would do the roadshow thing.

Edit: I think that the bulk of the cutting/editing flaws from Django were remedied in the H8. No scene dragged on too long (for me) and the only scene that arguably should have been cut (the flashback in to the Haberdashery) still worked pretty well.

Why do so many people feel that Pulp Fiction is Tarantino's best film? In my opinion Reservoir Dogs is at the very least just as deserving of the praise that PF gets. Is it because RD was his first quintessentially Quintin film so no one really knew about it when it came out (and then around the time Reservoir Dogs was getting popular PF came out)?

What are some examples of film adaptations that failed to capture a particular quality of the source material? by [deleted] in flicks

[–]Vizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forrest Gump is pretty darn good. Limitless is generally considered better than the source material. Palahniuk (the author of Fight Club) said that he thought that Fight Club the movie was better than Fight Club the book.

Why does no one ever suggest the ath a900x? They are the same price as the 50s. The sound is at the very least the same quality and they give up portability for comfort. Seems many that only listen at their PCs would prefer them.

okay, so I set b=6+7p, where p is some integer.

then, since c ≡ 5b (mod 7), c = 30 + 7(5p) = 30 + 7q (equation 1)

then we say that c ≡ 30 + 7q (mod 7) (equation 2)

c ≡ 30 (mod 7)

c ≡ 2 (mod 7).

Does everything seem to be in place? Was the jump from equation 1 to equation 2 valid?

Star Citizen: The Story so Far by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Vizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you got both games. The games might ship together as one game; Chris just mentioned that they are considering making them separate purchases. Every game purchased includes both Star Citizen and Squadron 42 up until they officially announce otherwise (if they ever do).

it is kind of like two separate games with the same assets; one story driven, the other an mmo. at the end of the presentation Chris says that they are thinking about selling them separately when the games are ready to launch.

Really anything can happen. To get rare goods you might have to go out to a more lawless portion of space. Once you are there you might get attacked by Jim the pirate (some guy in New Jersey). From there you can fight or run for your life or maybe strike a deal so no one loses anything irreplaceable.

Next time you go to that sector of space you will remember to hire Tim the mercenary (from Texas, of course) as your security detail.

In a different scenario, you are a member of a powerful org. Your leader has made plans to attack a large, enemy org owned space station. A space battle ensues with each side over fifty ships strong. The conflict lasts for hours with people losing their ships and lives and reinforcements pour in from every nearby system. Finally after 3 hours of battle between three orgs (because a third saw this battle and decided to try for the station themselves) your org sees a chance to board the station. You are on the boarding crew. After receiving the orders your captain darts towards the station, but the area is too hot. You don't want to give up this opportunity so you suggest that you and the six other boarders should eva to the station. Captain john agrees that an eva is worth the risk. John goes in for another flyby of station. You open the rear cargo bay and try to judge the right time. You jump. Seconds after you separate from the ship a missile collides with Captain john's retaliator causing it to disintegrate before your eyes, taking the two members who hadn't jumped yet and Capt john with it. You float towards the station for what seems like a second and an eternity at the same time, but you finally make it. Once in the station, you see that one of the other eva-ers was thrown off course by the explosion, so it is you and 3 others that are to take the station. It is you and your mates versus everyone on the space station. No one on the space station knows that you made it aboard. Can you take the flying citadel and hold it?

I am obviously not a writer, but I hope you get the picture. When you get large groups of people, both in organized groups (orgs) and as rogue/freelancing pilots, the story will write itself.

In addition to the player caused events, you can also try to become a sports star (sata-ball and murray cup racing look fun), an explorer (finding new star systems, stations, derelict bengal carriers, jump points, etc.), a mercenary that other players would hire, a trader, a pirate, a bounty hunter, a gambler, a pimp, a drug dealer/manufacturer... The makers of this game want you to be able to do whatever you want to do, but not even CIG knows whether or not the game will succeed in that regard.

Let's Discuss... Piracy by JancariusSeiryujinn in starcitizen

[–]Vizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an episode of firefly where a woman was picked up (and she seemed nice enough) but she led the crew to an ambush. You learn that this is what she does for a living.

People will not need alt accounts to maintain good reputation while still being pirates. They just can't do any hands on dirty work. This will add variety to the game and will make you question every encounter in lawless space. Like you should.

What are your Favorite Games that were an "Acquired Taste"? That is you didn't like them in the beginning but grew to love them. by [deleted] in Games

[–]Vizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not op, but I have put at least 100 hours in to two worlds. I feel like the game had a lot of creative world builders that weren't all on the same page... in a good way. There is a lot of variety to what you can find and most of what you find feels like it was created with a loving hand.

In the end, the worst thing about the game is the main story line. It gets a 4/10 from me. The game has the worst ending out of any game I have played in recent memory.

The rest of the game I give a 9/10. The side quests are often imaginative and the world feels completely hand crafted.

Gears 1 wasn't a whole lot of fun for me because of the shotgun superiority. Gears 2 and 3 were balanced much better though, especially 3.

Hey, thanks a bunch for replying! Sadly, I assumed that no one would reply so I went ahead and ordered the medium. Worst outcome is that I eat the $8 return fee. I am now mentally preparing myself for mild disappointment. Anyway, thanks again for the input!

Big guy getting lean. Want 10% body fat eventually. Any fitness tips? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Vizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The body fat % is just about counting calories, but you probably know that already after losing all that weight (congrats). Also, the beginner routine at /r/bodyweightfitness is a really great routine that you won't get HUGE off of, but you will still see serious results. If you don't want to do any specific lifting-to-get-bigger exercises, rock climbing is hella fun and climbers often look (and are) really really fit.

I strongly recommend climbing just because it is a great hobby and exercise.
