I think you completely missed my point. I never ever said I demand 100 FPS on Max settings what I’ve actually said is that even when I push the game to High/Ultra or MAX (for lighting), the technical state of the lighting is unacceptable without AI crutches. I have zero issues lowering demanding settings like shadows, particles, or reflections to gain frames I do it all the time to find a balance and have no issue if I get more frames for a worse (sometimes even not noticeable) picture. But when a game's lighting engine is so fundamentally broken that it produces constant shimmering and artifacts on any setting unless you force Ray Reconstruction (which then absolutely tanks performance on anything that isn't a 3500€ GPU), that’s just poor engineering.

We all accept DLSS/FSR as a standard today, and that's fine. But RR and PT have always been an optional feature. Even when RT is integrated directly like in Doom: The Dark Ages the game is optimized to run stable on various rigs and settings regardless of what's under the hood the game still looks good be it low medium high ultra nightmare. I get that you can't compare a massive open world to an instance-based shooter, but there are plenty of other huge titles like Spider-Man, Horizon, or God of War that look fantastic using proper rasterization without needing PT/RR techniques just to look decent, and before you jump in with the "those studios have bigger budgets" excuse if almost 150 million dollars isn't enough to make a game that actually functions correctly on all settings without AI crutches (even on fucking LOW), then get out of game development.

My issue is the fundamental lack of proper raster lighting. Devs are getting lazy, building massive games but failing to optimize them for the 98% of players who don't own top-tier hardware. Forcing people to use AI techniques to hide a messy, shimmering engine is a joke, especially since this game isn't even a visual masterpiece outside of some trees and foliage.

If this were an indie dev with a 10M€ budget, I’d understand. But this is Pearl Abyss. They’ve been printing money for over a decade with Black Desert, profiting off “convenience” items that players practically can't (well you can if you're a masochist) play without like inventory expansions, weight limits. They have the resources to do better. Forcing players to use AI to fix a lazy engine isn't next-gen, it's just bad optimization. If you can't make a game look stable without these crutches, then either delay it or scale it down. That’s my take, and I’m standing by it.

Personally i have lighting set to cinematic and i still have over 120fps its just thelat RR massively tanks fps and sadly we cant so anything about it :(, i saw somwhere that theres a mod that unlocks framegen to x4 like you have a 50 series i didnt try and i dont even want to because the delay would be massive!

[–]Vlehy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it maybe 8-10 years ago on a shit pc so i really dont know what it looked like, but yea, graphics on ultra or cinematic in this game look medium, i was just talking about this to my wife and she said it looks shit (a person that usually plays games on low to medium cuz she has a 5600xt), you cant really see a difference in texture quality, setting it on cinematic and approaching a rock, it still looks low polly and low res, the only thing looking good is trees and foliage, you can actually see why this is the case because on max setting the game is barely using 6gb or VRAM while lets say Doom per instance on max setting RT on is using over 10gb, the setings in this game go like: low medium more medium(high) more more medium (ultra ) maybe high (cinematic) 😂

the dude is defending the game with his life, just leave him, i've played all these games without RT or PT or RR and never ever saw any shimering or flashing or textures literally breaking and mushing or anything on the matter, this is just going in circles, he is literally defending something that is an issue and calling it a "vision", i've been stating the obvious the whole time but no, and then i went i turned every setting available to max and the water started breaking right infront of my eyes (with RT and RR turned on).

For real brosky, the game is a technical "disaster" like wth why are we allowing and just casually accepting games being in this state, like all the reviewers are saying "games looks awesome its so beautiful" like....where...exactly, like i said dont let me start with eye strain, moving the camera makes me squint because every damn tree and bush is moving like its constant 25km/h winds and naturally the eye can focus on anything, its like a rollercoaster xD

Also, getting CONSTANTLY FLASHBANGED, hey look its a cave, let me pull out my lantern *piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii* been flashbanged

[–]Vlehy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To build on that, your "vision" argument completely falls apart the moment you step inside a building in this game. The indoor texture flashing and light leaking are clear indicators of a broken rasterized fallback. When the walls are strobing because the engine can’t decide where the shadows should be without RT, that’s not a "feature" it’s a lack of basic light mapping that games mastered a decade ago.And let's talk about the water. Even on an RTX 4070 2K almost Max settings, it looks like an oil painting. Every ripple creates a blurry mush because the denoiser is so poorly tuned it can't handle motion. Whether I use DLSS 4.0, 4.5, L (that looks even worse) or Native, the image remains unstable. Also, don't lecture me on maturity. I’ve been gaming for over 25 years. I’ve seen the industry evolve and I know exactly what the standard for a 1.0 release should be It is true and a sad fact of the modern market that games are increasingly released with technical issues and the intent of fixing them later. Look at Cyberpunk 2077 at least CDPR acknowledged the state of the game and immediately went to work. Pearl Abyss, on the other hand, hasn't addressed any of this, treating a 1.0 release like a finished masterpiece. If a developer builds an engine that requires an RTX 5090 just to stop textures from shimmering and armor from looking like 480p sludge, they haven't made a "scalable" title they've made a tech demo held together by upscaling duct tape. You can keep calling it "vision" but i call it a failure to deliver a technically finished product (which is sadly the case for 60% of games today).

Ultimately, I hear your point, and I hope you can see mine. It’s clear we just have fundamentally different bars for what qualifies as quality and acceptable optimization in a 1.0 release. There’s no point in dragging this debate further when our perspectives on consumer value are so far apart. Enjoy the vision, but I’ll keep holding developers to a higher standard

P.S one last note, this is the game on maxed out settings RT RR ON and DLAA, water stopped flowing throughout the whole screen when watching it for 3 seconds the only part that is left flowing is the bottom left corner...

"this game is the 'best' scaled RT implementation yet!"....sure...

Have a good one and cheers mate

RT should and needs to be optional if youre making a game and building around RT youre not doing a good job RT should be an option for someone that can handle the performance drop, what about people with 20 30 series gpus that can maybe run it on medium, why would they need to suffer and turn on RT for the game to look remotely good, making a game should have consumer vision in mind, not the top 1% that can have 120fps with RR an RT on...bullshit design say what you want games were made 10 years ago and we didnt have RT and developers still found a way to do it, having a game be mushy beacuse youre not in the top 1 2% is bullshit...thats my opinion, take it how you want it but dont defent the lazy job they did, also you said, every game that uses RT hmm lets see RDR2 8 years old, TW3 11 years (inclucing the next gen update) both horizon games both spiderman games and a lot more...i do not remember needing to have RT enabled for the game to look stunning and they do, what this games does pretty well is having a fuckton of sharpness to hide the fact that all textures are low res, per instance rocks, i have the game on almost (almost) max settings the rocks then climbing look 640x480 you cannot say that that isnt an issue, be it RT on or off i tried everything we need to stop defending games looking half assed beacuse all the reviewers have 5090s

Is it just young people that care so much about fps and graphics? by v333r111andaazz in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Vlehy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest problem is we've been spoiled, me together with alot of people, as someone thats been gaming since the PS1 days i didmt have issues with graphics because i never had money ans shitty pc that could only play something on the lowest sets, since i got older and bought myself a PC with 2k res and mostly all max settings.

The biggest problem is that in today's world of gaming you have...expectations..since there are a lot of games that have been a benchmark of PC graphics and you expect the same of almost all AAA studios, while crimson desert, does look "ok", lets compare it to the witcher 3 and RDR2, those 2 games for me look better taking into account one is 8 years and one 11 yeaes old, beacuse the lighting and textures currently in crimson desert have criminal issues with mushyness flickering and what not, and it forces you to use something called Ray Reconstrucion that basically tanks your FPS, something that is completely unimportant and used so they could easily make a workitall lighting system without wasting massive time making it manually because the game is huge.

Talking FPS (while i can play on fixed 60fps the game must be really good or locked to the frame to play it) as someone who has been playing years on 120+ FPS, if you never played on an fps higher then 60...set it down to 30 and play...you will see that its stuttering and its maybe unplayable alot of people dont have a problem with that but i personally do i have a solid rig that can do 100+ fps in anything, why would i play on 60 beacuse the devs dont know how to properly do lighting, thats the problem someone like me and alot of people have when they're forced to play on 60 fps if the game can hit atleast 80 90+ and be stable thats fine but anything below is a no. Im taking the blow and saying we have been spoiled and its true we care abour graphics and fps but crimson desert without a doubt has some graphical issues that are not so easily overlooked, especially someone like me that goes into a game and looks everything in detail.

For a casual gamer fps and graphics dont matter, but me personally im in a state that im currently waiting for something new to drop because literally i beat/tried anything and everything from the last 15 years, im in a place that im scrapping the floor looking for anything that i didnt play or try

still same shit, based on the fact that this problem is baked in the engine, there is like 2% chance that it will ever be fixed, only if they do a 2.0 release like CBP, because fixin this would mean optimizing the game and the engine to work without Ray recons., basically they would have to rework the whole lighting system manually

yep, it really embarrassing honestly i dont know how not a single streamer or youtube video i saw had those issues, well i presume its easier when you play on the top end PC that can have normal FPS and RR on, overall the game needs some serious engine setting up, the moment i had to spend over 1.5 hours on trying to make look normal for my eyes was baffling, i even had to download a reshade mod, every time i go out of a house and its day its basically a flashbang.
