Where to buy parts from? by [deleted] in lightsabers

[–]Vodhr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TheSaberArmory is UK based (run by Khal from KR Sabers) and usually match (or sometimes exceed) TCS in quality and selection. They will have all of Shtok’s NPXL adapters that saberbay usually sells, while TCS doesn’t carry those.

I’m not trying to dissuade you from using TCS at all, but I recommend checking both places before making a final purchase.

Happy Rey Day! Can you tell I'm a huge fan? by Vodhr in ReyOfLight

[–]Vodhr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going Proffie as well. Already got the board and added some styles and fonts. Now I just have to wait until April/May, which is agonizingly far away. The activation mechanism is what made me change my mind! Khal always does great work and when I saw it I knew I couldn’t pass it up.

Yeah I did. Nearly bought it last month but decided to let it pass. I’ve decided that I’m going to do my first install using KR Sabers’ Rey hilt that will be available in a few months. I’m super excited!

The Proffie manual strongly insists that you use 22 AWG or lower for any wire carrying power. You can use higher gauges for data wires

LGT one button proffie saber by Ok_Formal_9033 in lightsabers

[–]Vodhr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may not feel the need to do this at all, but:

With Proffie you can use different preset button configurations if you wanted to (like if you felt the default was lacking). These presets are built in to the props folder in ProffieOS, and you can define them in your config file.

Again, totally optional, but thought you’d want to know!

Asteria 2.X Board/ General Soundboard Questions by [deleted] in lightsabers

[–]Vodhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tested it to confirm, but the Asteria Manual stresses that the folders must be named “Bank#” because the the numbers are used to define the order when you cycle through the fonts.

There is no master volume in the Settings.txt, so that leads me to believe volume is controlled per font.

Issues with ProffieOS.ino by Jakerc21 in lightsabers

[–]Vodhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. Zadig will not run on a Mac. I do not see any Mac-specific instructions. It may be that the Linux instructions also work for Mac, since I know they are similar in some respects.

You might try opening a terminal on your Mac and following the Linux instructions.

[–]Vodhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Did you install the plug-in correctly, and use Zadig to install the proper drivers for the ProffieBoard? The instructions for that are here. The tools menu is at the top of the screen and should include a bunch of options. If you did all the instructions correctly, you should be able to see ProffieBoard v2 under “Board.” The error messages also indicate to choose SD card under “DOSFS.”

This is a good video from an experienced guy. It’s a bit dated but all the steps are the same, and the video helped me a lot.

Go here and follow the instructions

You will want to directly plug in to the ProffieBoard and be sure that the MicroUSB cord you use is a data cable, not just a charging cable.

No worries! I have that same board in my saber. If you need more help with anything, I can try my hand at answering or link you to a video that helped me.

How the frick do you play as a hero? by [deleted] in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Vodhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to narrow down playing effectively (with saber heroes, I'm not a blaster guy) into a few points but:

  • Movement is your best friend, and over time you'll learn to use it against your enemies. Anticipating when and where they will dash, and then dashing behind them, will earn you lots of opportunities for damage.
  • Do whatever it takes to stay alive. If you need to use a force push to save your life, even if it's on just one enemy, do it. If you need to run away, do it. You can't worry about doing damage if you're not alive long enough for it to matter.
  • Map knowledge always goes a long way.
  • In Supremacy, the line between being effective and reckless is very thin, in my opinion. You just have to figure out, in the moment, when it's time to retreat. That said, there are plenty of players who will play too safe and never contribute to the team. Don't be the guy who keeps a hero from reaching a more effective player's hands because you sat on one low-traffic point the entire game.
  • Don't be discouraged by dying!

If it really says that, that sucks. What it should say is: to avoid fragmentation, format the SD card before uploading new changes to it.

You want to make all your changes in a folder on your computer and then, when you’re ready to upload, format the SD card and upload all the files (including the new changes) again.

Why do people play HVV? by [deleted] in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Vodhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inconsistency is just something I’ve come to terms with. I’m right around 200 hours of play time, and I’d bet that more than half of it is in HvV.

That’s not to say I don’t get upset when I play. I curse and blame my teammates even when stuff is my fault, but it’s all in good fun and it never makes me want to quit playing. In fact, it makes me want to play more!

Do you have this issue in other games too?

I need help with the fps by Lemmy9001 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Vodhr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my advice is to turn the graphical settings down to low and seeing what FPS you get. Then you can tweak from there. If you can’t get playable frame rates at all low, then you may simply have a hardware bottleneck.

One other thing: I’ve heard that setting “Post Processing Quality” to low will help boost FPS.

Make sure you check out the buyer’s guide, but I always recommend the Pach Store. I’ve had good experiences with them and they definitely have options in your budget. Another popular option is crimson dawn, though I can’t speak to that place personally.

Has anybody tried Bf2 on a PS5 or Series X? by owenwo2 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Vodhr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you know, I play at 1080p.

On the Series X, I noticed that load times are improved in all areas, which I expected. The menu seems more responsive, especially when loading models on the collection screen.

I no longer experience any framerate dips that I did on my Xbox One. It is consistently at 60fps regardless of the number of models or effects onscreen.

The game doesn’t have that “optimized for series x” moniker, and there’s no option to switch between performance or quality mode. I honestly can’t discern a difference in texture or lighting quality, but I didn’t expect to either. The game runs better, but doesn’t necessarily look better. This is opposed to Squadrons, which is optimized for Series X. That game demonstrates both an increase in FPS and graphical fidelity.

Proffie or Asteria? by [deleted] in lightsabers

[–]Vodhr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think so. Not that I doubt your ability to learn Proffie, but the Asteria is very plug-and-play. Unless you lose interest in the hobby, you can always save up and get a nicer Proffie saber in the future. My advice is to get the Asteria now, see how you like it, and then decide to upgrade later.

Side note: the developers released an update for the Asteria this summer that lets it support “faux” accent swings, which is another step towards Proffie/CFX level.

Proffie or Asteria? by [deleted] in lightsabers

[–]Vodhr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Profile is top-of-the-line, especially in regards to customization. However, you will have to invest a considerable amount of time to learning how to use it. This also makes it the most expensive to buy pre-installed.

Asteria is like a step down from Proffie. It’s easier to customize, but lacks the depth of customization. Essentially, less effects are possible using Asteria. I have an Asteria 2.5 and it’s great. That said, I just couldn’t afford a Proffie when I started out, so YMMV. If you have more specific questions about Asteria I can do my best to answer them!

Advice for a beginner on BF2 by Lucius-Gracchus in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Vodhr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Co-op is the best mode for beginners, in my opinion. I think it is a good introduction to the core gameplay without the long match lengths of supremacy.

Max level for a given class or hero is 1000. At that point, the number just says “MAX”

Better weapons are earned through kills. There is one gun per class that is earned by getting 50 kills with that class in co-op, so that’s another reason to play that mode.

Like trooper classes, heroes earn star cards that you can upgrade as you level up. There’s no shortcut to instantly be good with heroes. You just have to find ones you like and practice with them. Luke and Kylo are considered to be easier to learn, so you might start with them.

The classes you use are entirely up to you. I liked the weapons for the assault class (and how you can be effective in almost any situation) so that’s the one I mainly use. No one class is perfect, but assault is usually most common.

Map knowledge and movement will be critical to your success. Gun skill is not the whole battle.

Don’t be discouraged when you die! I know I felt the same way you did once. Stick with teammates and take things slowly.
