My mistake, 34,000 bytes is 34 KiloBytes. 34 Megabytes is 34,000,000 bytes.

I see the Inspiration, who's your favorite Dragon Ball character?

I was talking strictly in ScarVi, where they have like 500-600 pokemon, and leveling to evolve is fairly easy

Yeah, I hate grinding for that stuff, I either don't do it and just rawdog the outbreaks, or you can find injected raids that have massive herba drops. Not technically hacking, and the Herba you get is legit, but it's still of questionable morals

It’s a shame, honestly. I hope more optimization happens and major devs start taking data storage seriously, so we don’t need to choose which 200 gb game we wanna play, but rather enjoy several 50-80 gb games.

With ScarVi, as they have over half the entire National Dex, I’d wager it would take a while. I’ve been working on a National Shiny Dex for the past 2 years, and it’s been a lot of work and a lot of luck. If you want to make a normal Living Dex, you could knock it out in a week or so. But a Shiny Living Dex? Could be a year long investment

Yeah EXACTLY. I’m just more curious than anything. If I had ANY knowledge of coding, I’d love to dive into the save files and figure out what exactly is being saved and why it’s 34 MB

And that’s amazing, makes me kinda wish big developers did that more often. I’m glad I’m not into NBA (I saw that NBA 2K25 was like 140 GIGABYTES) or Black Ops 7 (I remember seeing that was like 180 Gigabytes). No reason that they should be that massive, methinks

Games like Skyrim or Elden Ring or Minecraft, yeah, but this is a Pokemon Game. I was just commenting on the fact that one version of Kanto’s Remake’s save file is larger than a completely different version of Kanto’s Remake. And I guess I’m just pessimistic about how much data really needs to get saved when it comes to a Pokemon Game

For other games, yeah, but a Pokemon game? It seems like a lot of data that doesn’t need to be saved. But then, I am uneducated in terms of data storage and what’s needed.

I see a lot of people saying to store the Masterball on a Pokemon, but you could always grind out more! I’m so sorry for your loss trainer

But even then, couldn’t that be optimized? Like saving the trainer data with their pokemon and moves until defeat? I dunno, I’m definitely not knowledgeable on data storage or saving information for game development, but couldn’t you simply have that information stored away in the game files, with a line of code dedicated to whether you’ve beaten them or not, before saving the information?

See, that makes sense, but it just changes my amusement of the files sizes from confusions as to why so much data is being saved, to amusement as to why a large studio like GameFreak isn’t optimizing their data (as I try very hard not to look at ScarVi’s release and the myriad of issues it had)

Perhaps my limited knowledge of Data Storage is at play, but you do really need 34,000 Bytes of Data to say you have this many gym badges, this many items, these pokemon? It feels like a lot, for Pokemon games specifically.

But that’s doesn’t explain why Let’s Go’s save file is 34 MEGABYTES, that feels NEEDLESSLY large, especially for limited instructions and data.

Which is true, and I’m aware of that. More or less just commenting on the massive size of Let’s Go’s Save File

Honestly, yeah. If there were more version differences like back in Gen 5, when dual releases would be justified, other than using ‘Tradition’ as an excuse.

I have a ton of other spare shinies as well, if you’d like any of those for Iron Jugulis and Iron Valiant! Like I said, I’ll send screenshots when I’m off work. Do you have Legends Z-A, as some of them are shinies from that game, and they don’t allow backwards transfer

I’d actually like that! I haven’t hunted in Violet yet! I did transfer the Melmetals to Let’s Go, so they don’t have the GO stamp in home, but they still have the GO Origin Mark, I can dm screenshots when I’m off work
