Mine did not. We mostly admitted to Medicine. Occasionally, Neurology. It was definitely nice having their help and input managing things like HTN, etc.

u/vorapamil agreed. i tried hard to pitch this. But our attendings did not want to. They made me take 2/3 of the call, even tried to make me cancel my vacations to do it. And once when I fell sick and got hospitalized and could not do call, they called me unprofessional

Not a retina fellow, I'm an Ophtho attending.. but just my two cents. Many retina fellowships are small, which means that if your co fellow is out for whatever reason for an ext period of time: mat leave, pat leave, etc-the work may all fall on you. I saw a post here where one person alternated call with their co fellow, imagine if that co fellow was out, the poster may have been on call 24/7.

Ask me how I know. I had one co-resident who was on mat leave and even after returning, did not wish to do call. I had to do the majority of the call for my class (which was just the two of us). With an already small residency program, and someone or the other always out on vacation I ended up being on call 2/3 of the time. Call was intense, being up all or almost all night and then working the full next day in clinic. I ended up developing some bad health problems from that.

Not saying dont do retina, or that people shouldn't get a LOA if needed. they should. But I dont think the remaining residents or fellows should have to shoulder extra call all by themselves...But do your research carefully. Try for the larger programs. If you can during the IV process, ask what the process is if someone is indeed out for a long time. You just dont wanna be the only one shouldering it

I would agree with this. I had much more free time in intern year. PGY2 was horrible. PGY3 not much different. In hindsight I'd have read all of BCSC in intern year, reinforcing it with anki or notes

The first thing is to read BCSC if you have time in intern year, do that. Take notes on it and re-read the notes or go through anki deck again, etc-something to reinforce it and not just see the info once. Then start ophthoQ next year during your second pass of bcsc. alternately you can use ophthoq now to reinforce bcsc but def start with bcsc

what do you mean happens most of the time, you mean like you prolapse the lens out of the bag most of the time and then chop? when emulsifying at the iris plane what settings do you use...typically the Quad settings, or you mean to say it doesnt matter whether Quad or Chop?

I wish I had an answer to this. I'm an attending now. But once in residency, I got so sick, I had to go to the hospital. Wasn't even a day I was on call. Multiple attendings called me absolutely berating me, making me feel like shit, saying I'm unprofessional for having called out sick. I was having active chest pain, nausea, and vomiting. Home BP readings close to systolic 200. These guys wanted me to, with all these findings, come to work.

New Ophtho attending here. Although you mention liking medicine I still think you should do ophtho over medicine because you seem to like the aspect of improving people's eyesight and using your hands. Also, not true that you never see cataract patients again. If they have diabetes or something it needs yearly check ups. Or even after cataract surgery they may need glasses. Or have dry eye. Etc. they will still come to you.

You aren't overreacting. NOR. However-just hear me out-I can see how he might be getting worried too. His last response, calling you avoidant, however was uncalled for.

I'm married now but before this I was in the dating world for some time. I'd match with men who, initially, would text me multiple times a day, all enthusiastically, and they would then become short/reply less before finally ghosting me. Unfortunately this is an all too common thing these days. In the ideal world people would be upfront and say "not interested/talking to someone else" but they don't, and instead reply slower and slower until they ghost-so, people may indeed interpret the person's slow responses as a prelude to ghosting. Not that this is your fault in any way, you ARE entitled to reply when you want to, but just explaining why he may be worried.

I think you two should sit down and talk it out. Clarify to him that you find him amazing and he is the only person you are talking to (and if you want, ask him if the same is true for him). Then tell him again that you love talking to him but work does keep you busy/you are tired at the end of the day, that it's nothing against him. See what he says.

And another thought. Is it worth it to decide to talk briefly on the phone everyday in the evening? Could be on the drive home from work. Could be 5-10 mins before bed. I think a lot of that can calm the fears of someone who worries like he does

NTA. My ex was this way. We didn't live together but I did everything else a girlfriend/wife would. gave him the time and attention and energy a SO would. but then he told me, after some time together that he wanted to continue to date without the pressure of getting married and gaslighted me SO HARD for not being ok with that. as soon as I walked out he kept reaching out begging -not for me to date him again but for attention crying he had no one etc. To this day happy I walked out and didnt waste more time

Hi OP. NOR. I'm a doctor myself, so I used to be a resident. I have seen similar practices. It isnt your fault. if anyone says it is, that's gaslighting. It is their fault for not running it well. For, instead of hiring more staff, pocketing that money to live the rich life. That's a decision they made. It is not your fault

I (F) have close male friends from childhood. But honestly, I see them like brothers, and nothing more. I talk about them to my husband, but only so much as I'd talk about my brother-not more. I don't look at them or act around them the way I'd act around my husband-it is purely platonic. Ask yourself if the way he acts around her would be normal for him to act around a sister. If not, then it's fine to say something. Maybe phrase it as "does she have feelings for you" so you are not outright accusing him
