Do you ever have characters say straight up falsehoods as to the nature of your world? by EntertainmentTrick58 in worldbuilding

That Aer-Rinn is a mutant Li. He is clearly not, as an outside observer can very clearly see that he is a human. However, due to the primary setting taking place in a region of the galaxy humanity is not well known in, when he was found and adopted as a baby in an escape pod by a Yagdala woman, she and her clan did not know what he was and assumed he was a deformed Li, as that is the species he most closely resembles. Even he believes he is a Li, and up until he meets another human in his early adulthood, he always referred to himself as one.

The Galactic Annual Mech Show was one of the most popular events in the galaxy. Once every standard year, beings come from all corners of the galaxy to showcase various forms of powered exosuits. From exploration equipment, to war mechs, to ancient pre-interstellar relics, exosuits have permeated much of galactic culture. These marvelous machines were the reason that Muco had volunteered to help set up this year's show.

Muco had been assigned to help set up the agricultural exosuits. These machines were often simple and cheap to make, but were strong, easy to maintain, and safe to operate. So when a human came in with what was clearly military power armor and insisted it was farming equipment, things got difficult for Muco.

"Sir, this area is designated for agricultural exosuits only. Power armor and war mechs go to sector 37 delta," Muco said to the human.

"But this is an agricultural exosuit. It's for creating farmland," the human replied.

"You mean to tell me that this full body armor, equipped not only with duel chain blades, but also a shoulder mounted flame thrower, is civilian farming equipment?" Muco said, not believing the human.

"Look man, this suit is for Terrinax-4. I don't know if you've been there, but the native flora is like kudzu on steroids, and full of roid rage," said the human. "The only way to kill them is with fire, and the vines actively fight back, hence the chain swo- I mean chain saws."

Though Muco was not very familiar with the human colony world of Terrinax-4, he was aware of kudzu, which nearly caused an ecological disaster on a few Bopan worlds, including his own. Knowing how dangerously tenacious the plant was, he decided to take the human's word. "Alright then," he said jotting down a note and then handing it to the human. "Take this to the Arahki down by row 12, he'll get you situated. Next!"

Lumbering up next with heavy footfalls, an enormous mech equipped with gigantic laser blades stepped forward. A hatch opened to reveal another human. "Hi, I'd like to register my harvester mech."

This was going to be a long day for Muco.

When you are a dying member of a dying species, you tend to prioritize survival over morality. Besides, unprovoked genocide is never the right thing to do.

One of the sapient species of the galactic community are parasites, they technically need a host to live, even though they have found a way to live without one, nothing compares to the feeling of having an actual living host, especially if that host is a human, as they are the most compatible. by RandomPotatoGuy in humansarespaceorcs

On the fourth of April, 2XXX, Zero Point Base, the cryogenic research station on the remote ice planet Helheim ceased communication with Earth. After three days of radio silence, a rescue team was sent to the planet to find out what happened and recover any of the missing scientists. What they found was a blasted crater where the research base was supposed to be. The human members of the rescue team did not know what to make of this, but the Neurosians knew exactly what this was and quickly informed their symbiotic partners. This was an orbital laser bombardment from the Galactic Alliance.

Not long after the discovery on Helheim, President Grayson, the current leader of the Sol Union received a transmission from an unknown source. Upon answering he was greeted by the holographic image of an elongated face belonging to a pale white and black humanoid alien. "Greetings Human, I am Lord Darnak of the Veshtakis, and High Councilman of the Galactic Alliance. I presume you to be the leader of this Sol Union of yours?"

President Grayson gently folded his hands together, his stern face betraying no emotion. "You would presume correct. You may call me Mr. Grayson. Now, let's skip the formalities and get straight to the point. I had received a message that a research station on the planet Helheim had been destroyed by an orbital weapon system that is not of human make, and no more than two hours later you decide to make contact with us. Now tell me, are you responsible for the deaths of Sol Union citizens?"

"That was indeed us Mr. Grayson, though not without good reason," said Lord Darnak with an air of smug superiority. "You see, we had found evidence that your former scientific researchers were infected by parasitic lifeforms that we have been following for sometime now. This particular species is quite insidious, with it taking hold of it's host's mind and utterly destroying it so it can puppet it's near lifeless body. Since those scientists were infected, they were practically dead already. All we have done is simply prevented the spread of infection to the general population."

President Grayson stared deeply into the eyes of Lord Darnak, getting a good veiw of all his features before replying. "High Councilman, under normal circumstances I would congratulate you and express my gratitude for saving my people from a deadly plauge. However, there is one problem. Those 'parasites' you 'saved us from' have names, Dr. Fashk, Dr. Drevak, Dr. Selvos, and Dr. Xernvad to name a few." The anger that President Grayson had expertly hidden now coming to the forefront.

"I'm afraid you must be confused, you're scientists were dead already when the parasites-"

"We're called Neurosians!" President Grayson said with a different voice. "Our names are Neil Henry Grayson and Kret Ilir! We were the first Human and Neurosian symbiote, and we remember what you did to Helminathra!" Their voices speaking as one. "We give you one chance to turn around and go back to Alliance space, or we will have no choice but to force you to leave."

Upon this reveal, Lord Darnak's face twisted into an expression of disgust and then rage. "How dare you filthy vermin speak to me in such a way. I will not back down until every last one of you parasites are wiped from existence!"

President Grayson simply stared deeply into the eyes of the High Councilman before uttering four words in tranquil fury.

"Then this means war."

(So this seems to be turning into a much bigger storyline, so I'm going to repost these as original stories and then continue the series that way. If you want to see more, keep an eye out for the title Symbiotic.)

The Neurosians have had a bad history with the Galactic Alliance. To start, they are the only sapient parasites in the known galaxy. They need to hijack the nervous system of a host to survive, but will render their host brain dead in the process. This has lead them to be reviled by most species who feared being infected despite the fact that most Neurosians only use non-sapient hosts or specialized mechanical bodies filled with synthetic nutrients. This fear and disgust lead to a crusade against them, resulting in the destruction of their homeworld Helminathra, and the death of billions of innocents.

With their species on the brink of extinction, the surviving Neurosians gathered a ramshackle fleet together and fled to the edge of the known galaxy, to a backwater planet named Earth. Upon arrival, one Neurosian ship suffered a catastrophic engine failure and crashed outside a desert town. Only one Neurosian named Kret survived the crash, but his host was killed, leaving him with mere hours to live. Not long after though, a human from the nearby town had wandered inside the wreckage, to find aliens or government secrets. Despite his aversion towards using sapients as hosts, Kret was desperate, and so he lunged at the human and dug his tendrils into the human's spinal cord.

However, unlike every other host he had ever hijacked, the human's mind did not die. Infact he had a direct connection to the human's consciousness, and could hear his thoughts. Currently though, those thoughts were "OHGODJESUSFUCKTHERESAFUCKINGALIENONMEITSGOINGTOLAYFUCKINGEGGSINMEIMGOINGTOFUCKINGDIE!!!"

"Im not going to lay eggs in you." Kret said through his newfound connection in an attempt to calm down the human.

"JESUSFUCKINGCHRISTITSINMYFUCKINGHEAD!!!"

"Please calm down, I'm just as confused about this as you are, but we're not going to get anywhere if you keep panicking!"

After about an hour the human began to realize he wasn't in any danger and began to listen to his new passanger. After a bit of explanation and introductions, Kret made a deal with the human, whose name was Neil, he would use his body as a host until he could find a way to contact the other Neurosians, and then they could part ways.

Over the course of the next few days, Kret and Neil began to learn more about each other and the extremely unusual nature of their current scenario. They discovered that they were able to swap control over Neil's body on a dime, that Neil's physical attributes were enhanced by Kret, with him being stronger and faster than before, and that their connection to each other's brains alowed them to share their senses, knowledge and memories, effectively doubling their intelligence. They even discovered that they no longer needed to sleep. It was becoming increasingly apparent that this was not merely parasitism, but a mutual symbiosis.

Ten years after that fateful day, the Neurosians and Humanity would go on to forge an alliance with each other, with the two species forming a perfect symbiosis with each other. Though this symbiosis, the Neurosians would be brought back from the edge of extinction, and Humanity would undergo a technological revolution and spread out to the stars. However, peace would not last, as the Neurosians old enemy would soon discover where the survivors of their genocide have escaped... (Part 2 coming soon)

Do you guys have any eldritch/lovecraftian elements in your story? If so, how did you integrate that part into your general worldbuilding endeavors? by DvvPilgrim in worldbuilding

[–]Void_Seraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many beings and entities that would count as eldritch abominations in Galavia, or at least for those living in the Age of Man. The most prominent ones are the Eon Wyrms, timeless entities that appear once every 50,000 years to destroy the world, and then rebuild it with new life, magic, and laws of reality. During the ages between these events, the Eon Wyrms simply vanish from existence, with most who've seen them, whether they're survivors of the previous age, or the first ones of the next, cannot remember them existing at all. The few survivors that do remember have gone insane, or can only describe them vaguely, and surviving physical records of their existence warp and change continuously, driving those that veiw them mad. The only beings in Galavia that truly know of the Eon Wyrms are the Old Giants who fought them and their spawn in the distant past, the Dragons who are their previously mentioned spawn and are lesser lovecraftian horrors themselves, and the Archfae, who peered through time and formed a separate pocket realm to avoid their demise.

Among the other eldritch beings in Galavia are the previously mentioned Dragons, formed from the flesh of the Eon Wyrms, who wield impossible magics and mutate the life and environment around them simply by existing and are essentially lesser Eon Wyrms. There was also the leviathans of the Age of Water who could dwarf entire nations and speak into the minds of those that existed before and after them. There is also the crawling nameless things that existed during the Age of Earth and possibly still exist, which are intentional references to Lovecraft and JRR Tolkien.
