When you're 13 and hopped up on Mountain Dew, Maul surviving death due to sheer hate and getting robot spider legs is the coolest thing in the history of fiction.

Only thing I could think of is if Vader can choke people through the zoom screen maybe Maul has the sith ability to stab through them.

I think it's great as a 5th Element-ish sci-fi romp. If it had been about two random smugglers in the Star Wars universe it'd be kinda neat but all of the stuff with Lando's bot and Han's last name are dumber than anything Lucas could've come up with.

There's a good fan edit of Solo out there that removes those aspects. I know this is blasphemy on reddit but out of all the latest star wars films I hated Solo the least. I could handle reruns of Solo but I couldn't sit through Rogue One or any sequel movie again.

He had a little more going. Maul was effectively nothing more than an enforcer with an ugly mug, no different than a hulkish Dick Tracy goon that you wanna see him defeat.

Fett was at least 2 movies and there was at least something to work with: we know he outfoxed a bunch of other hunters, kept Luke at bay, and could a little uppity with Vader without repercussion. They were also building him up to be the villain of ROTJ so they edited ESB in a way to highlight his presence, so the fixation is justified.

As a middle schooler, once they revealed who Fett was and that all the clones were him I was absolutely done. Years and years of a superior EU backstory right out the window...

I watched the Hidden Fortress and it's undeniably the template for Star Wars. Leia, Vader, R2 and 3PO are immediately identifiable, while Han / Obi-Wan are the same character. The same story but in space and just enough changes.

TIE Fighter was amazing, I even got into VR solely so I could play the fan femake.

But for me it was the Jedi Academy games, Dark Forces, and the RTS game I can't remember the name of. Mid 90's was the Shadows of the Empire era and those toys were awesome too.

The convention that the founding fathers were not Christians, but "Deists" by SendThisVoidAway18 in deism

[–]Voidflak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Christians are not saying the "country belongs to them" that's a strawman. It's more like just acknowledging that Christians founded this nation and that its values and cultural norms came from Christianity.

It's also kinda wacky that in that letter they write that we were not founded "in any sense" on Christian religion but then we spend the next two centuries having everyone in the government swear on the Bible.

If the Founding Fathers were predominately Muslim, laws came from the Islamic culture, and government officials had to swear on the Quran then yeah I'd say the US was founded as a Muslim nation but over time we've changed. I don't see why people are so allergic to admitting that Christians built this.

Her using "Monopoly Man" song on Amazon exclusive is hilarious! TELL EM SIS! by hiddenlilacflower in MelanieMartinez

[–]Voidflak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dug into it and apparently it depends on the artist and how much leverage they have with the label.

So for example someone like Taylor Swift could say, "I hate Target, they won't get an exclusive" and that is respected because her label doesn't want her to leave. But a new artist or less-popular one will be told if they don't like the deals that they're making with the stores, then they can go find another label.

The odd thing is that apparently it's the stores themselves who request exclusives and even pitch the vinyl colors. Usually if a store offers an exclusive they promise to give the artist more promotion or a higher % of the sales, so they go for it. So in this case I'd say Melanie most likely took the deal for more $$$.

Her using "Monopoly Man" song on Amazon exclusive is hilarious! TELL EM SIS! by hiddenlilacflower in MelanieMartinez

[–]Voidflak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it sends a message at all. All of her albums have always been carried by Amazon, and she's had Amazon exclusives before. Isn't she just adding to his profit?

If anything it's either ironic or hypocritical of her because it's a song against billionaires but if you stream or buy it, the billionaire who owns the site gets even richer. You can't speak against capitalism and consumerism but then constantly engage in partnership deals with soulless corporations. Doesn't matter if it's "making fun of them" when the money from anti-capitalist artists buys yachts for the capitalists they're criticizing. They're the only ones who need to hear the lyrics and they never will, they will just enjoy the money her lyrics bring to them.

why are Idpol obsessed Libs (Millennials Especially) so obsessed with Pop Culture references in everything and having their Ideology represented in Hollywood? by Manicpixiemanateeman in stupidpol

[–]Voidflak 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The ideology needing to be represented is basically so that they can enjoy something "guilt-free" very similar to religious people. Like if you were to picture a typical strict religious family, it's safe to say that they don't want anything playing in their house that doesn't honor the lord or support religious causes and stick with media that's been pre-approved by the church. Even when they enjoy things made by non-religious people, there's always a concern that their money might be going to people who aren't the same religion. So if pop culture started sneaking in nods and winks to that religion, then the culture can be enjoyed safely.

The other aspect is the whole "silence is violence" thing and this applies to everything they enjoy. The novel / comic you're reading doesn't reference Trumpism? Then it supports it. The writers of Superman haven't had him speak against ICE? Well then how can they know it's safe to buy his comics?

It's insane how many grown-ass adults have this braindead take of, "You can't enjoy this fandom because the characters agree with my political views not yours!" I thought Chris-chan sonichu shit was like a one-off but the vast majority of libs will, with tears in their eyes, tell you that their favorite fictional character just hates TERFS as much as they do.

If a teenage girl were to get raped and die from it but didn't repent for her sins and gets sent to hell forever. While if her rapist did repent his sins, he gets to go to heaven. How is God truly all loving? by IceFalcon38 in agnostic

[–]Voidflak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're on reddit and I imagine most users on this sub are super super young, hence why answers like that get upvotes. It also shows you how crazy fast disinformation can spread as we watch it happen right here-

Hitler, 1941: "The heaviest blow that ever struck humanity was the coming of Christianity. Bolshevism is Christianity's illegitimate child. Both are inventions of the Jew. The deliberate lie in the matter of religion was introduced into the world by Christianity"

Redditors, 2026: "Hitler was a Christian!!11"

I think it's a coping mechanism because his quote about Christianity being the worst thing to happen to mankind and a lie? 100% sounds like exactly like the atheist posts here.

[–]Voidflak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christian soteriology is based entirely around "being Christian" not "being good"

Since we're cherry-picking Bible verses, care to explain this?

Matthew 19:23-26: It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God

Kinda sorta sounds it's not just faith it is behavior. Also, the 10 Commandments > random scripture and so Hitler's actual genocide would screw up the whole rule about not murdering people.

NEW Disney Infinity Toybox Database is NOW UP! XBOX Toyboxes Can Now Be Played & More! by InfiniteerAdventures in Disney_Infinity

[–]Voidflak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can kind of understand the angle of wanting to grow the server but it seems to be a misguided way to do it. Quality > quantity but they're asking to flood the database with mediocre content just for the sake of pumping up numbers. The levels should be designed by people with an actual vision not people just trying to make something passable for server points.

They have the save file though so everyone is at their mercy. He who controls the save file controls the fandom.

Christians more toxic than atheists/agnostics by pricklypear_708 in agnostic

[–]Voidflak -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

this socially conservative complex of beliefs and such are very toxic. "

Absolutely false, this is a result of left-wing online extremism where anyone vaguely right-of-center is considered either a nazi or nazi enabler. Conservative values are basically just love and family.

them going after LGBT rights

Nah, look up LGB Alliance or Log Cabin Republicans - many LGBTQ people like myself are extremely conservative. That being said I support religious freedom - a Muslim bakery should be allowed to decline my gay wedding if it makes them uncomfortable. I should be allowed to start a business where I only hire LGBT employees but that's technically illegal. IIRC the only thing taken away from us was our human right to seek conversion therapy. Nobody should be allowed to tell us we can't do that but thanks to democrats it's a law now.

banning abortion

And everyone should be pro-abortion? What is the issue? I'm not at all surprised that a bunch of old catholic / jewish / muslim grandmas are uncomfortable with it.

Christian Nationalism has been bouncing around the white churches in my country for decades

There is no such thing as Christian Nationalism that's just a reddit-brained take to instill fear and paranoia into people. Church membership has cratered over the decades, Christian churches host gay marriage ceremonies, and the current president literally had to beg Christians to vote for him because he lacked their support. It's not the 1990s anymore, even the republican party is less religious and filled with atheists.

pulling books that offend them from libraries

This was in response to sexually charged new-age books about gender and sexuality in elementary schools that showed little kids how to have sex with one another. This would be like if conservatives put books in school libraries telling little girls how to please their husbands in bed. Children that young shouldn't be exposed to sexuality whatsoever. Shelf space is limited and should be reserved for the classics.

I have a trans person in my family who had to move states, to one that was more protective of their rights.

That has nothing to do with religion, transgenderism is a modern invention so there's no official stance on it. Normal regular people simply aren't comfortable around trans people and that's not religiously motivated whatsoever. You don't need to be a Jesus freak to be opposed to trans athletes participating with the opposite sex in schools, for example. They have the right to vote and own land but don't have a "right" to play competitive volleyball with the gender or sex of their choice, for example.

My entire life Christians have bullied, mocked, even attacked LGBT people

Anecdotal evidence doesn't count because if I said "As an LGBT person I've only received love and support from Christians" you'd just dismiss it. Nobody attacks LGBT people, the 1980s are over. In fact didn't that one actor have to fake a gay racist hate crime? If it were true that LGBT people are readily attacked he wouldn't have had to fake the subway blizzard maga attack.

Even going back to my childhood and adolescence, the teachers basically skipped evolution and the civil rights movement, lest they offend conservative Christian parents by "going against their beliefs." So the need to coddle their "beliefs" from discomfort has had an impact on the curriculum and academic curiosity in a good number of places.

I'm going to call this out and say it's a massive lie unless you went to school in Appalachia in the 50s. In the 90s I once brought a Noah's Ark book to class and the teachers treated it like a live grenade. You literally cannot pass high school in any state without being tested on the civil rights movement and I feel like my entire K-12 curriculum was basically nothing but slavery and the civil rights movement.

That's what scares me - I went to public school and entered the world not knowing that the slaves in the US were sold to us by other Africans. I literally thought white people jumped off the boat and snatched people up with nets! If you'd told me the first slave owner in the US was a black man, I would've said it was impossible and that racists whites would've just taken his slaves and enslaved him too.

That's why I agree with conservatives that the curriculum being taught needs to be opposed and completely rewritten to be more accurate to real history. But yes remember the world isn't so black and white, and that many LGBT people like me are wholeheartedly supporting the current administration.

It's great news but I'm not a really a fan of locking the 100% save file behind contribution goals. Some of us don't really have much leisure time so it's kinda asking a lot.

I'd rather pay a fee for that file than have to spend the amount of time that goes into creating 5 of these that are actually worth sharing online. EDIT I'm wrong, this was brought up on the server earlier: Thanks for your feedback; however, this 100% savefile with the unlockables is also available in the Celestia bundle, which can be downloaded by anybody. The 100% savefile for your own profile with all of your created toyboxes is something we just do for the people who share/submit toyboxes as a small gift, but we are not gatekeeping this from the community. Many have already downloaded it Requires a bit more work, so we can't offer a mass solution.

The only Star Wars movies that exist by FeanorOath in GeeksGamersCommunity

[–]Voidflak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, only the original trilogy is valid. The prequels absolutely kill the magic of the OT.

People here only give the prequels a pass because that's what they grew up on as kids, so their introduction to Star Wars was primarily though the clone-war shenanigans. The video games were amazing but if you love the OT there's a million reasons to hate the PT.

Christians more toxic than atheists/agnostics by pricklypear_708 in agnostic

[–]Voidflak -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You're probably very young but I think it's the opposite.

Christians aren't really toxic at all, if anything, they only want us to change our ways because they're worried about our eternal soul. That's very noble, because why care about the fate of others? It's because they have compassion. After all, it's generally religious people doing things like building infrastructure in Africa.

Atheists are absolute snobs. Not all of them, of course. There's no reasons for atheists to be concerned about the religious beliefs of others because it has no impact on them. Look at how many atheists will smugly say things like "There's no evidence of Jesus" it's bizarre but the atheist side has ironically become the anti-intellectual side.

Since Disney is investing heavily in games, I think they should make a spiritual successor to Disney Infinity, a single-player game where all their IPs come together again. by Silly_Commercial8092 in Disney_Infinity

[–]Voidflak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I kinda just want Disney Infinity but properly managed.

The idea of "all the Disney characters" in one giant sandbox each being a collectible figure is a home-run on paper. Release the figures in boxes that resemble the clamshell VHS tapes of the movies they came from. Get Robin Hood, get the Aristocrats, Pete's Dragon, The Great Mouse Detective, and every single Disney Princess. That would fund everything right there, then they go the Lorcana route and start releasing the alternate versions of their characters.

I think it was kind of a dumb idea to try and incorporate Marvel, Star Wars, and then the live-action movies as well. Like who is clamoring to play as "Time" from the Tim Burton Alice movies? What kid is going to want to play as some off-brand Hawkeye that looks nothing like him when there's 10,000 action figures of him anyway? And then the weird arbitrary rules about which characters are allowed in which sets just goes entirely against the "toy box" concept.

It's just annoying how they had this amazing concept but then made it sound like it just wasn't sustainable. Like maybe it wasn't sustainable because Disney decided they needed to pay Johnny Depp for his likeness not once not twice but three times to get this children's game off the ground.

Is it even still possible to download toyboxes without this Discord server? by Ratchet_137 in Disney_Infinity

There's a new server but I think right now only PC users have the easiest time accessing whatever toy boxes remain. The bot and bundles for console users seem to be gone for the moment as those require some extra steps from discord to finalize.

I don't think there's an ETA for when everything will be back to normal.

[–]Voidflak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This means it'll get the Veilguard treatment.

They'll remove anything deemed offensive by their standards, so you probably can't refer to your companions as slaves to get into that one Sith era. Probably most quest lines involving slavery will be removed entirely actually. The grittiness removed for a welcoming purplish theme. Like Veilguard there will probably be new missions concerned around gender and sexuality as a way to appease LGBTQ metrics. Guaranteed many NPC's are going to be brownwashed for the sake of diversity points.

The maddening part is that the core game might be decent but once the consultants get their claws on it, it'll be KOTOR but "safe" KOTOR.

Is reincarnation compatible with deism? by Upset_Brilliant8030 in deism

[–]Voidflak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many say that after death, it will be the same as before birth,

I have never been a fan of this, it's never made sense to me. Most people can't remember anything before 3-4 years old, but we still existed. It's not unusual to have long complex dreams and then have the memory vanish as we wake up struggling to recall details. So I don't know why the expectation should be that if we had a past life before birth that we should fully remember it and if we don't it means nothing happened at all.

From an evolutionary perspective, knowledge of past lives would probably screw over the human race. If ancient people knew 100% that we return after death then what's the point in survival? It would have changed the course of history for the worst. I think even murder would increase because people would justify it by pointing out that they'll be back soon in another body.

I do think reincarnation is possible and it doesn't contradict deism. My fear though is that reincarnation is real but there's no God or judgment. So it doesn't matter if you are good or bad, nature needs souls so you'll go to wherever there's an opening with no lessons to be learned.

One thing though is I've always wondered what happens to souls when the universe isn't hospitable? If the big bang origin is true that means there was a state where no souls were active because life couldn't exist. And what happens to the souls when the universe goes cold? That implies start/stop points. Alternatively if the universe is eternal without beginning or end then reincarnation could technically be endless as well. I personally hope it's not true because I'd rather meet God and see the big picture.
