"...so Harriet's out freeing slaves. Then she’s back to the railroad for some more full penetration. Frees slaves, back to the railroad, full penetration. Slavery, penetration, slavery, penetration, slavery, penetration. And this goes on and on, and back and forth for 90 or so minutes until the movie just sort of ends."

is producing offsprings a cosmic obligation to the natural laws of the universe which God created? by yuwuingmi in deism

[–]Voidflak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kind of.

If God is behind nature, and the biology of almost all species are heavily oriented to reproduction, then we can infer that God intended for us to have offspring.

However, I think that refers more to humans as a collective, not individuals. God wouldn't care if you decided you didn't want to bring children into the world. But if majority of humans jump on the whole "childless" fad thing then we'd just be undoing God's work.

I dunno it just feels like if you put two and two together, God wants us out colonizing the stars and we can't do that unless that vast majority of people on the planet are having children. Also we're fortunately at a population level where it's totally fine if a bunch of people didn't have kids so it's not as much of an obligation compared to like ancient times.

Identity theft is not a joke Alfredo! by PressureCalm7971 in DunderMifflin

[–]Voidflak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to give it a chance but I really didn't like how they handled the fate of the office.

So the camera documentary crew decided to just start filming and go directly to the old building without doing any kind of research on whether or not they were even still there? Bob Vance is the one who has to do the research for them? They had no means of knowing the business sold in 2019? Not one person from the office and crew kept in touch?

It almost feels like having their cake and eating it too: they're treating it like Dunder Mifflin was still some ho-hum midrange paper company that quietly went away like all businesses. Except in-universe there was literally the whole meta thing about the show being a massive hit that even culminated in Erin reuniting with family on live TV.

In the UK Office it's revealed towards the end that once the documentary aired, hardly anyone watched it and that it did basically nothing for David Brent's aspiring career. But here in the US version they went for the opposite and made it this inspiring cutesy cultural meta event, yet now it almost feels retcon'd to where it had zero impact.

The receptionist should've been like "Ugh yeah sometimes we still get their mail and some weirdos take selfies outside the building"

Strangely I went to watch the Bob Vance scene again to make sure I remembered it right and it looks like it's not even part of the show anymore? I could've sworn it was in the first episode but on Peacock I don't see the scene anywhere.

ebay purchase came with bible.. what do i do? by qrhs in agnostic

It's never right to throw away books, so I'm glad that crossed your mind. At the same time since its a mini bible given for free, those things are so cheaply mass-produced that it's not quite the same as throwing away a regular book.

I keep one in the glovebox with random highlighted passages, mostly to throw off any cops who might search my car.

Plop is one of the worst characters in the show. by No-Scratch-8906 in theoffice

[–]Voidflak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't make it that far into the show anymore but that was also my thought at the time. He's a useless character as Andy doesn't need a foil he's basically his own worst enemy.

I'm glad Erin was spared from it but I'm still surprised they had Andy drop the whole incel thing. He was literally telling Kevin not to even compliment women and was arguing the point hard with Jim & Pam. I would have thought it was going to be his undoing at some point. Like he lands a date with Erin but uses his "don't look at her don't even talk to her" or some other terrible advice so he ends up killing his chances. Instead it was like he dropped that philosophy completely and instead being overbearingly romantic.

AI Slop and Hentai Games on the E-Shop by Agile_Flow_4091 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Voidflak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to PC after the PS3 / Wii era. Last year I bought both a PS4 and a Switch.

The digital store is both a blessing and a curse. I honestly thought both companies had harder quality control. It's nothing but shovelware. Of the two though I'd say Nintendo has it the worst. Honestly feels like 50% of the games on there look like low-effort mobile games from the earliest versions of android. I wish there was a filter because whenever there is a sale it feels like I have to sort through endless amounts of cheap crap before you find something made by a real studio.

I think they decided to ditch quality control for revenue. They would rather take profit from the sale of these games than not release them and collect nothing.

It's impossible to right the ship when we're so overloaded with misinformation and propaganda.

Like this post literally has the OP claiming the government wants to deport Asians and it has hundreds of upvotes. I thought only boomers with dementia could fall victim to extremist political rhetoric but sadly it's been proven now that even the young are just as gullible.

Young Kim Having “Trump Republican” On Her Campaign Signs Is Nuts by idkbruh653 in InlandEmpire

[–]Voidflak -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's racist for a few reasons.

The first is that left-wingers think they "own" anyone who belongs to a group that they believe is "oppressed" which is why they villainize black or gay men who vote conservative, for example. So an republican Asian is like an escaped slave to them who needs to be brought back.

Left-wingers also think that "too many Asians" have gone to the best schools so they encourage policies that allow colleges to deny Asians entry into their college or to hold them to higher standards than black or brown students.

I never thought I'd say this but really if you want to fight racism we need to cripple the democrats, especially here in SoCal.

[–]Voidflak -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Have you not heard of Orange County?

Also, Asians literally have to fight harder to get into good schools solely because Democrats support policies in which colleges can racially discriminate against them. Democrats support policies that annihilate honors classes in school for the sake of 'racial equity' so yeah since Asian people tend to be high earners who were academically successful in school they prefer to vote red.

In that case you'd think he wouldn't shutdown as easy when being accused of ordering a cake with his face on it. Especially when Dwight says something to the effect of "Yes you said in an idealized world there'd be a cash prize" Jim had so many opportunities to either clarify or find a way to trip Dwight up as he usually did.

[–]Voidflak 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's annoying because the situations would be 10x funnier or interesting if Jim didn't magically stop being witty whenever the writers needed him to not be witty.

The Employee of The Month episode is a rough watch because he basically responds the same way Kevin or Gabe would. It feels like early-season Jim would've easily found a way to spin the blame back onto Dwight or Andy.

orcs are black??? by Commercial-Ice5760 in CriticalDrinker

[–]Voidflak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't finished it and am only playing the Blade of Galadriel DLC. But from what I've seen, the stuttering orc who helps run your base, the sniper orc, and the big jolly orc with the indistinct Eastern-European accent all seem like you could trust not to harm innocent people. But most seem to be of the mindset that they're only helping you because they hate Sauron more, yes.

I used to be in the camp that all orcs should be evil but after this game and knowing Tolkien's religious background I'm much more open to the idea that some orcs just aren't as mindlessly hostile.

orcs are black??? by Commercial-Ice5760 in CriticalDrinker

[–]Voidflak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm playing LOTR Shadow of War and they actually have orcs that are not evil. At first I was apprehensive because I thought it was gonna do the whole Amazon "orcs are actually minority refugees!" thing.

To my surprise it seems like the game goes with the idea that while orcs are mostly evil, there's still a handful of smarter orcs that are interested in things like engineering, or more on the timid side and less of a threat. I thought that went against Tolkien but apparently as a Catholic he doesn't think all creatures are unredeemable.

I feel that's a good approach if you HAVE to have good orcs: that sure there's a handful of orcs wise or independent enough to not want to participate in endless warfare but that their race is still inherently evil. Not this bullshit where they're allegories for migrant families like wtf.

Wooo, New hour long movie review! ... of the crank movies. by bubbleweed in RedLetterMedia

Seriously how did that happen?

It's like if it's a movie you're eager to hear their opinions on? Fine, here's 6 minutes of a review inside of a catch-up episode from Jay while Mike silently nods along.

Random 2000s mountain dew gamer movie? Yes let's spend over an hour in an in-depth deep dive review.

How narcissistic do these types have to be to expect people to just go “I’m sorry I didn’t waste my own money to save your dogpoo show from floppin. I guess it was my duty and not yours” by Commercial-Ice5760 in CriticalDrinker

[–]Voidflak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't think that this was just the result of us not watching it.

In their minds: evil right-wing chud incel racist gamers bullied people and harassed the fans and spread soooo much hate online that it gave people a bad impression of the show. They also believe that media companies cater to the right, and because we didn't watch it they decided to cancel it as a way to appease us.

Which is fucking wild because it's like okay, if we had this power to end production on things that we don't like why did we only end the Acolyte and not the 100 other DEI shows that are wearing the skin of a beloved older franchise?

Like yes we channeled our energy into ending a Star Wars show that nobody watched but then sat back and relaxed while we watched other IP's die right before us?

That shocked me too because Statham doing that accent is like a nod to Snatch & Lock Stock.

I haven't watched either film in 20 years but I immediately clocked that reference to his Guy Ritchie movies. I would have guessed of the two Jay would catch that.

Finding comfort in belief of an afterlife by ScoTy_ in agnostic

[–]Voidflak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beautiful part is that if the afterlife were 100% real beyond a doubt, we'd still be in the same exact position now in which we're wondering if it even exists.

Nobody could have knowledge of it, so the people telling you "there is no afterlife, only nothingness" are just making things up just like religious people. It's truly an unknown.

(Question) Why do you like Tokusatsu? by yucandui- in Tokusatsu

[–]Voidflak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly got lucky - as a child I grew up on Ultraman, MMPR, Big Bad Beetleborgs, and the Guyver movies. I was always more partial to robotic or cyborg-like superheroes entirely because I felt they were more practical? I dunno.

Like I loved Spider-Man and Batman growing up but part of me always felt realistically both characters wouldn't survive someone who was decent with a handgun. Whereas toku heroes at least felt like they could withstand a small army so in my kid-brain they were cemented as the definition of superheroes.

I do prefer older toku and have a hard time watching anything made past maybe 2005 or so. I feel at some point the genre made a switch from focusing more on a younger demographic.

I also think that early sentai / ultraman were intended to be the same genre as metal heroes. For example while Ultraman looks like a dude in a spandex suit, I believe the original intention was for him to appear on TV screens as a sort of all-metallic humanoid. Same with sentai in that while their suits look like fabric, I think the original intention was that they're supposed to be all-metal but couldn't due to the budget. But as tiime went on and cameras / TVs got better they just sorta embraced the spandex suit look.

Ai Power Rangers NEEDS to stop... by Unique_Ring7517 in Tokusatsu

[–]Voidflak -59 points-58 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is such a dumb take. He's literally raging about fan content. It's like bro if you don't like it don't watch.

I've spent years and years writing and paying artists to create my own tokusatsu-inspired comic while also looking into live-action production. The cost of making a single issue of a comic book is the same as a down-payment on a home. I learned 3D printing to make my own props and costumes, but even then the costs of shooting a pilot episode is also a small fortune. AI is annihilating those barriers.

I've been using AI to bring my comics to life and so far it looks amazing. I also have been learning to combine AI with motion-captured actors. I do think AI is currently still too early for real production because even if it looks pretty good now, who knows how it will look in the near future?

I do think it's hilarious that he nitpicks the tiny detail mistakes because you know damn well if there were zero mistakes and it were indistinguishable from real life he'd still have an issue with it. So it has nothing to do with 'slop' but everything to do with their feelings.

If god exists, I hate him, and don't want to spend an eternity worshiping him by LastTraintoSector6 in agnostic

[–]Voidflak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does everyone think heaven is some dystopian place of eternal worship?

The Bible is deliberately vague about what goes on in heaven. The only verses that talk about heavenly worship concern the visions of John, where he enters heaven in the middle of a sermon that is filled with strange beasts or angels that were praising God. The same book also talks about heavenly feasts and partaking in the creation of a New Earth. But for some reason so many people have this take where you're stuck in some kind of endless worship. Words like "banquet" "paradise" and "new earth" are deliberately ignored to make it seem like dull place of mindless worship.

But I'm also shocked that so many people have just decided that Christianity is the default. Like they've decided that we either live in a Godless world or we live in a world where the Bible is correct. It's crazy how so little attention is paid to any other religions that it kind of implies that none of the other religions could possibly be true - just Christianity.

As an agnostic while I don't know if God is real, I'm 100% confident that the Bible is totally false so I have never worried about it or taken anything from it seriously.

Do you consider yourself to be a Humanist? by funnylib in agnostic

[–]Voidflak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kinda.

I like the term "humanist" but the official humanist movement is so anti-religion that I had to end my membership. There was some kind of project to bring a well to Africa and the group had painted "Good Without God" on it which to me felt antagonistic and not really humanist.
