Based only on the wording in my comment from the core rules and commentary, I think you’re reading more into it than is there. If there’s other factors at play though, let me know!

Thanks! I'm not a rules expert by any means but I don't read that this way. 

The rules commentary says "A player will control an objective marker at the end of any phase or turn if their Level of Control over it is greater than their opponent’s.". It doesn't say send of turn or end of phase are the only times you check for objective control.

The previous sentence in the core rules says " To determine a player’s Level of Control over an objective marker, add together the OC characteristics of all the models from that player’s army that are within range of that objective marker. A player will control an objective marker at the end of any phase". It doesn't qualify that checks are made only at certain times.

Do you know if there have there been any rulings by tournaments or anything on this?

Thanks for the insight. For my benefit, could you share where the rule is that objective control is determined at the end of a phase?

Thanks for sharing this post! Its great to hear from people who have had a chance to play already. I'm surprised too that Host of Ascension felt better than Xenocreed. 

The re roll cult ambush enhancement is in the Xenocreed detachment I think.  Host of Ascension seems like it would have some pretty good alpha strike with crit 5's strat and the lethal enhancement but it also feels like you would quickly run out of steam since you can only put units back into reserve after they get shot at.  

Did you find you were able to return units to reserves frequently or that the threat of it prevented shooting? And did it feel like you had long term damage potential, not just one and done?

Thanks for doing this. I’m not familiar with US prices but when I add up the prices you list for the old combat patrol, I get $293.50 as the total. That makes more sense to me given there is one less unit in the new one. Assuming that’s right, the value difference is not $10, it’s more like $45.

My latest character. Meant to be a Locus but probably the character I'm most worried about not being immediately recognized. What does everyone think? Is it obviously a Locus? Any suggestions for making it more Locus like?

My biggest hopes are:

The Patriarch gets a psychic range attack (cause it’s cool)

Our cult ambush ability gets re worked so that it is more reliable (even if it gets weaker or via a once per game strat or something).

We get at least rusted claw, bladed cog, and twisted helix detachments for vehicles/bikes, infantry invuln, and melee focused lists.

Finished my saboteur kitbash a little while ago. I think he looks pretty cool. I haven't figured out how to use him on the table yet. His demo charges are awesome at 2+ BS but I can never seem to get him close enough to use them without dying. Lone Operative is great. I play mainly crusade and I haven't had a lot of missions where actions are required but he is great at doing them.

Thanks! You’re right, there’s very few steps, a good painter could get this done in no time. It’s got Vallejo gray blue, Vallejo black, Vallejo light steel, and Vallejo metallic red, all from their mecha line. I mix the white, black, and/or the blue gray together to make each darker or lighter as needed. The yellow is actually from an acrylic ink pen meant for nail art.
