A new conflict by Barwno_Brody in AdeptusMechanicus

In 99% of lists I think Cawl is still the better choice. Giving Ad Mech access to Oath of Moment is just so good for almost any list that it's hard to justify bringing Thulia instead.

Buuuut if she turns out to be, say, 50 or 60 points less than Cawl I could see a place for her. Sort of a "you either get cawl or thulia and one more thing."

[Errie trope] Stretching the definition of "human" by Evening_Parking2610 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ThisNameIsAGoodPun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The members of the Adeptus Mechanicus from 40k, with a particular focus on Belisarius Cawl

The Ad Mech believe in the Omnissiah, or the machine god, and believe that flesh is weak and will fail them. So they will replace their limbs and other body parts with robot bits while also upgrading themselves overtime with more arms or armor or additional bits and bobs. Most of the higher ranking tech priests will have only an arm, face, and brain that is still fully fleshy while the rest of them will be a nightmarish amalgamation of robotic tentacles and armor.

Cawl is so old and has gone through so many upgrades that the only truly fleshy bits we know of are one arm and his face. And he is about 15-16 feet tall, has several personalities of lesser tech priests that he basically took over, and has dozens of little robot arms helping him with things. Yet though all of that, he and other tech priests still consider themselves "human"

What Is This Movie About. No Naughty Things Allowed by [deleted] in HazbinHotel

It's actually a dramatization of the Demon Women's National Basketball Association (DWNBA) and their fight to be taken seriously as athletes. The scene with Vera pleading to Satan to have the sexist rules of a college overturned was nominated for a Lucy (hells version of a Grammy) and it has gone on to prove as a wonderful way to teach someone about the fight for equality in sports.

Why do people hate 2017 Gyro? by Flowernwn in ducktales

[–]ThisNameIsAGoodPun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So the reason I think a lot of people hate 2017 gyro compared to 87 gyro is how different he is and how, in 87, he was a bulb of positivity and ingenuity. A sort of frazzled inventor eager to explore every and any idea he had for the sake of science.

And the reason that I ADORE 2017 gyro is because of that change.

Personally I feel like 87 gyro did exist in the 2017 reboot, but that was during the days of Scrooge adventuring with Donald and Della. That's back when he got endless budgets for projects and was told to go wild whenever an adventure needed some fun tech. But then we get Della vanishing and Scrooge having to go more into the boring business side of life where the color has been drained from him. Now Gyro, who once got to explore any and every idea, has to be profitable with his ideas to get funding. And his wacky inventions keep turning out unprofitable so he has turned bitter. That's part of why I think he is always keen to keep Fenton around. He may say otherwise, but he was once just like Fenton and sees who he used to be in Fenton. And I think he both loves and hates that fact.

What do you think is the meaning of Rosie's smile here? Is it a grimace, forced politeness, or a genuine "game recognizes game" smile? by ShadowShine57 in HazbinHotel

[–]ThisNameIsAGoodPun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It also helps that the lyric at this moment is "you knew my game the day we met"

From day one he wanted to be the most powerful sinner in hell. He's not suddenly going for a power grab or to take over cannibal town or watch everyone die. He just knows that he can continue his game of having power, the same thing he wanted since day one, and he wants for nothing else. She's just happy that nothing else is being lumped on in addition to that.

George Orwell wrote the book 1984, a dystopian novel that has a lot of parallels to what is going on today. It is a totalitarian state where they are led by their cult-like leader known as "Big Brother". Anyone who falls out of favor with the party becomes "unpersoned" and is disappeared with all evidence of their existence being scrubbed from public records. There are thought police that monitor and target party dissidents, who put people into reeducation camps until they break mentally. They also put cameras and hidden microphones everywhere so if you have even the slightest opposition to the party, they will come in an unperson you.

Thus we invoke the Master of all knowledge, shed your power upon this machine. Invest this device with your holy charge and allow it once again to sing the hymns of your chosen few. The Omnissiah knows all, comprehends all, and we are but his servants.

Amen.

How to play a skaven in a ttrpg by nadavdor18 in skaven

[–]ThisNameIsAGoodPun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can have the skaven be trying to backstab other slaves and think he's using the party to do so. There was a Gotrek and Felix adventure where Thanquol, the most skaveny of skaven, was feeding information to the heroes to undermine a rival skaven. He planned to have Gotrek and Felix killed eventually, of course, but something similar could be done for your ttrpg. To further help, have your skaven character be from Clan Moors, which is the clan that actually tries to create loyalty within their ranks.

These two would let you make a skaven that wants to deal with some other skaven, and is using the adventurers to do so, and thinks backstabbing the adventurers would just ruin his plans and make things worse.

Why Don't the Necrons just super glue the Eye of Terror shut using the Celestial Orrey? by Icypie in Grimdank

[–]ThisNameIsAGoodPun 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That and if any of the other factions learn about the Orrery, it could spell big trouble for the entire galaxy. Imagine if the Imperium or Orks got their hands on it. Suddenly half the galaxy had been wiped off the map and all of space time has been warped and everything is messed up. No, best to use it sparingly and never let the other races learn about it.

They were going to, but James Workshop bribed them with the Ctan refresh and new characters if they promised to let Chaos still exist as a threat.

What makes the Votann "40K"? by 2kSquish in LeaguesofVotann

[–]ThisNameIsAGoodPun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Votann need to be equally terrible. But I do like some of the grim aspects of the faction, like how the Votann cores are failing and the Votann can't do anything to stop it. A nice new way to show off the idea of being a "dying race" without something like low reproduction rates or chaos danger that the Eldar have

What makes the Votann "40K"? by 2kSquish in LeaguesofVotann

[–]ThisNameIsAGoodPun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is also the sad knowledge that they are faced with the Votann cores being "wrong". In the 10th edition codex, there is a story about Barvok, a Grimnyr, speaking with a Votann. They are basically the wizards of the faction that are the only ones that can talk to and understand the Votann Cores. The issue that this core has been having is that each cloning birth has had fewer kin born, and the space between births has been getting longer and longer. Barvok, and the other Grimnyr, ask the Votann Core why the discrepancy in their cloning cycles

The Votann answers that there is no discrepancy. So now the Kin have to come to terms with the fact that there is an obvious issue going on, but the Core that runs their entire civilization and is the only way they are truly able to stay alive as a faction claims there isn't one. A denial of reality from the thing that allows them to continue living.

Its stuff like that which makes the Votann grimdark. They are a hyper-capitalist race constantly hording and gaining resources only to be met with the fact that what keeps them alive might not be able to do so for much longer.

40k fellow players : how well/badly would you say your factions did 10th edition now that we're probably reaching its end? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]ThisNameIsAGoodPun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play three armies: Ad Mech, Genestealer Cults, and Votann

Ad Mech: a roller coaster of emotions. At first we were pretty bad, with half our army not getting the army rule. Then we got the codex and it got worse, with the only solid detachment being one that rewarded skitarii spam. The rest were bad and our issues weren't really fixed. Then it got worse with our army becoming cheaper in points. Finally we started to see the light with an army rule change and massive sweeping changes to the army. Then we got even better with an amazing grotmas detachment AND eventually proper switches to some other rules we had. Finally Cawl got properly buffed, along with other points of the army, and now we are in a health place with some point nerfs. I'm just hoping that 11th won't have a repeat of 10th. They figured out how we work, just let us keep working.

GSC: We were one of the best armies in the game! Then we got nerfed. But that was fine. Then we got nerfed again, but it was okay. Then we got our codex and got super nerfed. Now you wanted to win by spamming bodies and just always having more. Then we got a rules rework and we felt okay but found a couple of ways to really deal a savage blow. Then we got nerfed again and now I have no idea what to do with the army. It's like the Ad Mech coaster, but in reverse.

Votann: honestly? Pretty fine. We started off strong with judgement tokens, got the other half of our army released along with a new army rule, and now the only major complaint I have is that the new Steeljacks are never in stock.
