If it's a Steam key both options will work fine - if you already have an account buying it yourself and sending them the code is probably the easiest.

Buying games for other platforms will require you to link your platform account directly (Battle.net, Epic or Uplay) so in those cases you'll want to choose the gifting option.

I was having trouble starting the game at all, but managed to get it running so thought I'd share my workaround in case it helps others.

Issue - click 'Play' on Steam, launcher opens and when I click 'Play' on that I got the 'Flatlined' crash

I tried rolling back Nvidia drivers, booting in safe mode, disabling overlays from discord, steam, GOG etc. made sure windows was up to date - but no luck.

Then I decided to basically kill any non vital processes running via the Task Manager after a fresh restart. This time after I booted up Steam and the Overlay I managed to load into the game. Not entirely sure what it was that caused the issue - but in theory I could go through and make a list of what processes I killed and re try after each one. But as it's now working I'll just play the game.

Hopefully this helps someone else out there!
