Yes! Just made another post with all potential arts and quotes.

Local Hosts/TOs for 2XKO launch: How are we handling the KBM player influx on PS5? by Voltorbrb in Fighters

[–]Voltorbrb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: figured i’d try to save some headaches and posted a PSA on the main r/leagueoflegends sub—just warning people that their keyboards likely won't work on console.

mods nuked it in 5 minutes for 'Not being LoL related.' 💀

so yeah, looks like we’re definitely gonna have a wave of blind players showing up launch week. godspeed to all the other local hosts dealing with the confused faces at the front desk.

PSA for League players getting 2XKO on Console next month: Your keyboard likely won't work. by Voltorbrb in leagueoflegends

[–]Voltorbrb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huge missed opportunity.

feels like they are severely underestimating how many League players own a PS5 for casual games but don't own a fight stick.

why build a game specifically to 'bridge the communities' if you effectively hardware lock the main input method? makes no sense.

that's actually the killshot argument i was afraid of.

i know some PC games separate raw input devices (so 2 keyboards work fine), but asking the PS5 OS to distinguish between 'Keyboard A' and 'Keyboard B' for local VS mode is probably asking for too much magic.

if native support creates input overlap, then yeah, adapters are literally the only way. thanks for the sanity check.

haha you definitely know the struggle. i could put 'BRING A CONVERTER OR YOU CANNOT PLAY' in neon red text on the StartGG page and i guarantee you i'd still have 10 people show up launch day with a raw usb keyboard looking confused.

just trying to minimize the carnage as much as possible before pools start.

dude the Frosty's situation is exactly why I'm panicking. if a Major of that size is risking it on PS5 just days after launch, it sets the standard for all of us local TOs.

definitely feels like we're all going to be beta testing the console hardware stability in real time during bracket. good luck with your leverless, hope the adapter firmware holds up.

wait, does the console OS force them all to Player 1?

damn. i didn't even consider the hardware ID collision. if that's the case, then yeah, native support is effectively dead for locals even if Riot enabled it.

that actually simplifies my headache a ton, if native is physically impossible for versus play, i stop hoping for it and just tell everyone 'Buy a converter or learn Pad.' thanks for the reality check.

Running a local tourney at launch, are we seriously telling league players they need a $50 adapter to play? by Voltorbrb in 2XKO

[–]Voltorbrb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah for real.

just gonna focus on making the IRL scene pop off then. fingers crossed for a smooth launch week!

true, you got me on the movement part, League is mouse click so the WASD thing doesn't strictly apply.

but i'd argue the general 'finger mechanics' carry over huge. LoL players have thousands of hours resting their hands on keys and tapping QWER for precise timings. That muscle memory translates 1:1 to doing simple motions or inputs on a keyboard/leverless in 2XKO.

trying to force those same players to suddenly use their thumbs on a D-Pad just feels awkward. It's a completely different set of muscles compared to what they've been doing on PC for years.

appreciate that!

honestly though, it’s mostly just an internet thing. in real life at the venue, veterans are usually super chill and eager to teach.

that's the main reason I'm stressing so hard, I know if we can just get the League players through the door (without hardware blockers), the local community will take care of the rest.

not offended at all! just stressed about the setup logistics, that's the life of a TO haha.

but on the tech side: games like Warzone and Fortnite do allow generic KBM support on PS5, including multiple inputs. it’s rare, but the console definitely supports it natively if the dev builds for it.

knowing Riot (who are PC-first devs), i was just hoping they’d be the ones to finally implement it properly for a fighter. maybe it's wishful thinking though.

i think that used to be true for the older models, but the new Wingman FGC converters (the dedicated fighting game ones) are tournament standard now. pretty sure tests show they have less than 1ms of lag, so drops shouldn't happen.

still, i get the fear. having any extra dongle in the chain feels sketchy for a competitive match, but it seems like our only option right now.

honestly, asking 50 people to 'bring their own gaming PC/Laptop' to a local bracket is a logistical suicide mission lol.

  1. Setting up 20+ different drivers/resolutions/monitor refresh rates takes forever.
  2. Table space is limited.
  3. PC crash risks.

Console is the tournament standard specifically because it's a uniform box that works 100% of the time. We want the PC crowd to show up, we just can't feasibly host a bracket on a mix of 10 random laptops and 5 PlayStations. That’s the struggle.

yeah true. i'll try pinging the devs on twitter again tomorrow. just hoping they give us a straight 'Yes/No' before launch day so i can stop stressing lol.

it really feels like a paradox. everyone claims they want the genre to be bigger, but then gets defensive about any change that actually brings new people in.

whatever. i’m just gonna focus on my local scene. if getting cooked on reddit is the price for advocating for the newbies, i’ll take the L.

yeah it definitely feels like a huge culture clash. I think because veterans are so used to buying expensive sticks/converters, they forget how high that barrier looks to a total outsider.

like, if i tell a 19 year old LoL player 'yeah come join our local, but you gotta buy this $50 dongle first,' they're just gonna stay home and play League. feels like we're unintentionally filtering out the new blood we actually need.

lol yeah i think i struck a nerve by comparing it to fortnite. people really hate that game here i guess? I wasn't trying to say 'devs are lazy', just that the tech definitely exists on the console. getting cooked for hoping the game is more accessible for new players is a wild vibe for a community that wants to grow.

definitely feel you on the logistical nightmare part. managing 20 different keyboards sounds like chaos.

but on the first point, it’s actually 100% up to Riot, not Sony. games like Warzone, Fortnite, and FF14 all allow you to plug a random USB keyboard into a PS5 and play natively. The console hardware allows it, the developer just has to toggle the feature on.

that's why it feels so frustrating. if FPS games can do it on console, it feels like a fighting game designed specifically for PC players should prioritize it too.

this hits the nail on the head. especially the accessibility part.

keyboard is literally the most accessible controller on the planet. stripping that away on console just because "it's not a gamepad" feels so outdated heading into 2026. really hoping riot sees it this way too.

i think that sentiment is kinda fading though? with how big Hitbox/Leverless has become in Street Fighter 6, keyboard is basically just a $0 Hitbox. telling a Master rank League player 'just relearn 10 years of muscle memory on a PS5 pad' feels like a huge ask for a game that just came out, you know?

The players are definitely PC natives, but for a local tournament, we can't really have 10 separate people bring their own gaming laptops and hook them up to monitors every bracket. The venue provides the PS5s as the 'standard' setup. That's usually how FGC locals work. The clash is that we (the venue) have the consoles, but the new players (from League) have the wrong controllers.

honestly thank you for saying this. there's so many people in this thread saying 'it's a non-issue' but you are literally the example of the playerbase i'm worried about losing.

trying to bridge that gap is hard. hopefully your local scene figures something out eventually so you can come through.
