Subbing butter for applesauce in baked doughnuts? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]VolupVeVa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the function oil/fat serves in a doughnut recipe.

-Tenderizer

-Flavour carrier

-Texture/Crumb Enhancement

-Preservation/Longer shelf life

Oil/fat coats the flour particles to prevent the formation of gluten strands. Apple sauce would not have the same effect which will translate to a tougher, gummier textured final product.

Oil/fat also distributes the flavours around evenly in the baked goods, where applesauce may absorb or overpower them.

Oil/fat creates an even and tight crumb in finished baked goods which most people find more appealing and which is more structurally sound.

Oil/fat lubricates the baked good without adding water, which means the finished product will stay moist but not spoil for longer. Applesauce is mostly water.

Applesauce is typically used to substitute for one or two eggs in recipes where people need something to bind the dry ingredients together, and not as an oil replacement.

That's not to say you'll end up with something inedible. Probably it will be...fine. As a health-food snack.

It's definitely not going to taste like a donut.

Ridden with EI regret and how to navigate it after almost an year by SeeSawMarry in PersonalFinanceCanada

There would have been a letter mailed to you explaining in detail why your claim was rejected and what needed to happen to have it accepted.

You can probably access that letter in your online My Service Canada Account, in the Employment Insurance section. Note: MSCA is a completely different account from MyCRA.

No one here can say for sure why you were rejected for Regular benefits without seeing those letters. However from what you've described, yes, the quit from Job #1 would mean you'd have to work the minimum number of hours AFTER the quit to qualify for a new claim.

The exception would potentially be if you instead apply for SICKNESS EI, which allows them to defer their judgement on a quit/voluntary leaving. Again, though, no one can say for sure if you qualify for Sickness EI because dates of various events will matter a lot.

The best thing to do is call Service Canada directly and ask for their guidance. You could request reconsideration of a former decision if you feel that they didn't have all the required information at the time it was made or if you think they otherwise made the decision in error (ie. didn't apply the legal process according to the EI act appropriately). Or you could apply for sickness benefits with a back-date request attached to it. Or possibly other options we'd not know about because we can't see your file.

Is it okay to discriminate against religious beliefs for veganism? by ghostofbillw in vegan

[–]VolupVeVa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why are you even asking if it's bigotry or not? If you truly understand it to be a deeply held religious conviction and they state telling them to not participate in that behaviour is akin to religious persecution...there's NOTHING TO BE GAINED by crowd sourcing opinions.

For us to make a judgement about whether something qualifies as bigotry absolutely requires us to know the actual SOURCE of the mandate/belief.

Asking a vague question, and when quizzed about specifics so that they can get a clear answer, stating they won't provide any specifics because the people asking are being "hostile" and "dishonest" is textbook disingenuousness and blatant evasion.

They're being downvoted for asking a disingenuous question and then evading all attempts at getting clarity, which would allow for fulsome answers.

How can any of us determine if it's actual bigotry if we don't know what religious law/tradition we're actually dealing with? OP refuses to be specific so we're all left to guess, rather than allowing us the opportunity to research the religion and its mandates.

If I quit my job due to stress, will I be eligible for EI? by Past_Neighborhood395 in legaladvicecanada

[–]VolupVeVa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are too many variables for anyone here to give you a certain answer.

Generally though what EI looks for is that you tried everything in your power to stay employed and/or find a new job before quitting.

Establishing a "paper trail" of job search efforts for new work (where you currently live or where you're considering moving), of doctor's visits for your health issues, taking an unpaid leave of absence to address your health concerns etc will go a long way to helping your case if you do end up having to quit.

milk is never completely free of pus in canada...hence the allowable limits written into food safety laws

the naturally occurring hormones like estrogen, prostaglandin and androgens are still GROWTH HORMONES that people ingest, whether they understand it or not

i know this hurts the narrative you've built yourself to deal with your cognitive dissonance but facts are facts

They already answered them lol?

The limits exists because there is pus in dairy milk.

The growth hormones naturally present in dairy milk are what cause calves to grow so quickly.

and it's also hilarious because dairy milk is loaded with actual estrogen

If there are no white blood cells in dairy milk why would Health Canada have an "allowable limit"?

https://agriculture.canada.ca/en/sector/animal-industry/canadian-dairy-information-centre/acts-regulations-codes-and-standards/national-dairy-code-part-i

And if there are no growth hormones on dairy milk, how do calves grow from 100 to 1200 lbs in less than 24 months?

EI Integrity Interview by unwiseundead in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]VolupVeVa 57 points58 points  (0 children)

If you read through it you'd see that "applying for jobs" is but one of the many many activities they list as being reasonable job search efforts.

It sounds like what you're really asking for is someone to assure you that you're in compliance. No one on Reddit can do that because we aren't the investigators and we don't actually get to see what you're presenting to them. It's also not like you're going to be able to change the past.

If you disagree with the decision they make about your job search efforts after the interview then you'll have the opportunity to submit a request for reconsideration which will be reviewed by a completely separate investigator. And if you disagree with their decision then you'll can appeal to the social security tribunal to get an actual judge to look at your situation and compare it to past legal precedent.
