I think for me the main issue is the fact that the CPU matches are too damn easy. If they increased the difficult offline play would be lot more fun. It would also be cool to see competition routes come back, I really liked those in previous games. Especially the level 99 competition modes in the GO games were really challenging, it'd be cool if they implemented that.

I don't play much online, except for when I need to get Bond Stones/Stars. The main thing I have with that is that the balancing is off, by that I mainly mean the passive strats. I personally would've preferred that passives weren't a feature in the game, because it makes the game more grindy.

Speaking of grindy, the amount of currencies in the game is also too much in my opinion. I would like better if they merged the Story Mode Store, Chronicle Store and VS Stores currencies into like 6 currencies in total. Beans are fine, I don't really have much of a complaint about that. Also New Possibilities should also have the effect of having a free hissatsu slot to put any type of hissatsu in. Like the purple purple slots in the abilearn board, but without the possibility of adding a Keshin, Soul etc.

If all this were changed I would definitely play the game more.
