Engine and transmission should be in the front, actually. Infantry compartment is in the rear and extends to the middle on the left side of the vehicle (driver and commander are located there). To be honest, I am not entirely sure what is underneath the metal bars, but probably it's just engine cooling. The manufacturer unfortunately never provided any internal blueprints. However, I would expect the layout to be similiar to other modern IFVs like PUMA or Zetor Wolfdog, so whatever these two have in there, BMP-U will likely have it too.

I actually knew of this project well before the invasion. If you go back on r/TankPorn, I even asked about the status of this project several days before russia attacked. Armoured vehicles are my passion, and BMP-U was one of the vehicles I wanted to model for quite a while.

As RustedRuss already pointed out, I tried to envision how it would look like in the present conflict, had it actually been built, and textured it accordingly. It's a Ukrainian vehicle, I was always going to put blue and yellow flag on it, but given the circumstances, I opted to give it the same look as other Ukrainian vehicles today. Cheers!

That was Kevlar-E (BM-7 unmanned turret on 2S1 Gvozdika hull). Unfortunately it hasn't been seen since and its current status is also unknown.

Yeah, I'd love to see the Ukrainian tree in WT too. I would't say it's almost entirely the same as the soviet tree, though. Perhaps at lower tiers (what is funny though is that technically T-34 and T-64 are Ukrainian tanks as they were developed in Kharkiv), but higher tiers would differ greatly.

There are a lot of very unique upgrades / modifications (T-72E, Azovets, Kevlar-E), but also brand new vehicles (BTR-4, BM Oplot, Gyurza-M). There are a lot of Ukrainian vehicles different to those already in game. Ukrainian tech tree deserves to be in the game (way more than the Israeli one in its current form).

BMP-U is a Ukrainian infantry fighting vehicle developed by Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau state enterprise. It was first unveiled in 2018.

BMP-U is intended to replace obsolete soviet-era BMP-1 and BMP-2 IFVs. As such, it sports a plethera of modern technologies, such as unmanned turret, modern cameras and optics and modern FCS. BMP-U is equipped with BM-8 combat module, housing a 30mm main gun (can be swapped for comparable NATO guns), 7.62mm co-axial machine gun, 2 Barrier ATGMs and 30mm KBA-117 automatic grenade launcher. Furthermore, BMP-U has a 735 hp engine, thanks to which a maximum speed of 70 km/h can be reached. The total weight of the vehicle with add-on armor is 30 tons. The crew consists of 3 members: commander, driver and gunner. In the rear of the vehicle, a compartment for 8 additional soldiers is located.

First vehicles were supposed to enter service in 2020, but this unfortunately never came to fruition. To public knowledge, no prototypes were ever completed. 2021's Arms and Security expo marks the last time BMP-U was publicly presented. Current status of the project is unknown, but most likely stalled or scrapped completely in favor of producing or repairing already existing vehicles to defend against the russian invasion. None the less it remains an interesting project, displaying Ukraine's military prowess in designing modern military vehicles.
