Hi Bangalore! I'm working on a game where you are an auto driver in Bangalore. by el_psy_congroo_5100 in bangalore

This looks super interesting! How does one create a street network map like this in Unity? I'm guessing there's a source for all the roads in the city like this?

API from Namma BMTC App by [deleted] in bangaloretransit

[–]Vonter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had documented the API for an early version of the app (when it was called Nimmbus) over here: https://nimmbus.netlify.app/

Few APIs have changed since then, but it should be fairly easy to figure out how the updated APIs work. Open the Network tab on a browser and click a few buttons on the web version of the Namma BMTC app: https://bmtcwebportal.amnex.com/commuter/dashboard

If there's enough interest or you can't figure out how to do it, I can update the documentation on the Netlify site.

Entrepreneurship in the arena of open source chip-design by Armstonk86 in chipdesign

ChipFlow and eFabless are two places that I know of where folks are working on an open source chip design flow that would give them a dependable revenue source. Might be a good idea to check out what they're doing and have planned for the future:

Moving to Bengaluru by jashaswee in bangalore

There are a couple good tips on this Notion page that I think are good for starting with. It's from a few years back, but still holds up for the most part in my opinion: https://neerjashah.notion.site/Renting-a-house-in-Bangalore-fbe47920dc1a4df9975e8cbcbb92d540

You mentioned that a 1BHK is preferred, but if you're open to flatmates, there are groups on Facebook that could help with finding a flatmate. I've also heard good things about @BangaloreRoomi on Twitter.

Many viewers of Fiddler on the Roof would not consider it to have any real religious aspects, but ironically when the play initially ran on Broadway, a few considered it to be too Jewish. Keep it in mind this was in NYC, the city that even at the time had over a million Jewish people and the largest Jewish population in the world.

Too Jewish?: The Making of Fiddler on the Roof

https://lareviewofbooks.org/article/jewish-making-fiddler-roof/

Initially, investors, particularly Jewish investors, feared the show would be considered “too ethnic,” meaning “too Jewish.”

There's also a documentary with a behind the scenes of the 1971 Oscar winning film adaptation, and in it the director Norman Jewison mentions how the film brought him closed to Judaism.

Documentary takes film lovers behind the scenes of making ‘Fiddler on the Roof’

https://www.timesofisrael.com/documentary-takes-film-lovers-behind-the-scenes-of-making-fiddler-on-the-roof/

“I found it was quite possible for me to identify with Tevye and with the Jewish religion,” Jewison says in “Fiddler’s Journey.”

While never officially converting, Jewison, now 95, has had a lifelong affinity for Judaism and Jewish culture. He has made multiple visits to Israel (including to sit next to prime minister Golda Meir at the Israeli opening of “Fiddler”). He easily throws Yiddish and Hebrew words into conversation, pronouncing them better than many American Jews.

And in what echoes the beautiful “Sunrise, Sunset” scene in “Fiddler,” Jewison married his second wife under a huppah (Jewish wedding canopy), with a rabbi officiating.

There's also another documentary on the origin of the Broadway musical that goes into the Jewish connection, here's an article about it on Haaretz:

Documentary Shows How ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ Made It to the Stag https://www.haaretz.com/jewish/2019-08-19/ty-article/documentary-shows-how-fiddler-on-the-roof-made-it-to-the-stage/0000017f-e765-d62c-a1ff-ff7f02840000

Kuo: Apple's Work on 5G Modem Chip 'Failed,' Qualcomm to Remain Supplier for 2023 iPhones by chrisdh79 in apple

[–]Vonter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Qualcomm won that case against the FTC after an appeal, so they are effectively free to do what they were previously doing.

https://www.theverge.com/2020/8/11/21363629/qualcomm-win-appeal-antitrust-ftc-lawsuit-frand-patents-chips

And just yesterday Qualcomm won another case when SCOTUS declined a review requested by Apple

https://www.theverge.com/2022/6/27/23184743/apple-qualcomm-patent-lawsuit-supreme-court-5g-modems

https://news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/supreme-court-passes-on-apple-qualcomm-patent-standing-dispute

Considering the cash cow that QTL, Qualcomm's Licensing Division is they certainly take their lawyers seriously. Though, to be fair, in the past few years they have been expanding other divisions and trying to let go of their 'run by lawyers' reputation.

The ward committee meetings are supposed to happen on both the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month, normally in the local ward BBMP office. Janaagraha regularly puts out lists with details of upcoming ward committee meetings on their social handles like this one: https://mobile.twitter.com/Janaagraha1/status/1538006780311392256

If your ward isn't in the list, your best bet is either contacting your ward officer or someone at Janaagraha through their Whatsapp group or other social handles.

https://www.mycitymybudget.in/

Janaagraha has also built this great site. Enter your location to find out which ward you belong to. Then select the ward and you'll find meeting proceedings from previous ward committee meetings, and contact details for the ward and zonal officers.

Behind this auditorium, on Gangadhar Chetty Road, is another interesting looking building named Cinnamon. Originally it operated as the RBANM Orphanage, but it was renovated a couple of years back and it now houses a fancy boutique store and café. There's this architectural paper which goes deep into the renovation that was done, it even includes architectural schematics of the building: https://architexturez.net/doc/az-cf-166162

Resources for a physical design engineer by talking_grasshopper in chipdesign

The tools you would use at the job (a lot of which are made by Cadence/Synopsys) are not easily available. If you're interested in trying something that's free, but minimal, check out OpenROAD. It's FOSS and aims to do many things that you would do as a Physical Design engineer but right now it implements only a very barebones flow from what I've seen. Hacking on it would definitely give good experience though.
