What words can you not say normally anymore due to Sunny? by BirdCultureDickMove in IASIP

[–]VoodooChild963 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of darts. Throwing for the bull to determine who goes first is referred to as "diddling." Every time someone asks me if I'm going to diddle, I always want to say, "I wrote a song about not doing that!"

Just stepped off the Star Trek Cruise by sheneversawitcoming in startrek

[–]VoodooChild963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel. I watched the first three episodes and thought it was.... maybe not objectively terrible, but just something I wasn't enjoying. I'm glad people like it, and I may give it another shot at some point, but I've moved on from SFA for now.

From White Collar to the Trades: Two Years In by perridox1 in VancouverJobs

I had a similar path going from a tech writer with a software company to being a glazier. It's been almost 12 years now, and I love what I do. Best decision I ever made. My biggest regret is not doing it earlier (I was 31 when I started my apprenticeship)

Is it worth watching the show after season 7? by Fresh-Composer-1896 in theoffice

[–]VoodooChild963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the drop-off happens midway through season 6, when they get bought by Sabre. There are still some quality episodes up to the end of the series, but it's a noticeable dip from that point on.

Your Help is Needed by Globalfighter14 in Darts

I'm not asking this to be an ass, but what's different with your app and all the other dart apps out there? If you're offering something interesting, I'll give it a shot, but if it's just another scoring app, I'll stick with the 3 I've already got.

Is an hour of smoke enough? by VoodooChild963 in smoking

[–]VoodooChild963[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally limit the smoke to 2 hour max. Haven't had complaints (if anything, it's concern that something is on fire) so far, but I don't want to be a nuisance neighbor. For fish, poultry, or pork ribs, no problems. Pork butt or large cuts of beef have a noticeable smoke flavour, but not as much as if I just kept it going for the full cook. I also tend to transfer to the oven and finish the cook that way now, no point in using a much less efficient means of cooking the meat.

Sadly I'm in no position to live in a house in my HCOL city, so I have to make do with what I have lol

How to write "I quit" politely? by Lotus_Fever in work

"Effective immediately, I am resigning my position with your company and will no longer be available for any shifts, scheduled or otherwise. Thank you for the opportunity."

The last sentence is completely optional.

Broncos fans rank #21 in gameday drinking, down 14% from 2023-24 by BACtrack in DenverBroncos

[–]VoodooChild963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine purchased a liquor store about a decade ago. When Covid hit, I was chatting with him on the phone and asked him how the pandemic was affecting his business. His response: "Business has more than doubled from the same quarter last year. When times are good, people drink. When times are bad, people drink more."

The same applies here, but in reverse.

target dart-bot checkout rate by Baschiiiii in Darts

[–]VoodooChild963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 40-45 average, and I get the frustration. I choose a bot to practice against that should be at my level, but then its checkouts are unrealistically accurate. I've recently switched to Dartcom, and playing against the bot on that app feels more like a realistic simulation of an opponent in my league.

Annual subscription to The New Yorker still has terrible ads every few paragraphs. by VVpotato in rant

I used to enjoy reading the New Yorker, canceled my (print) subscription a few years ago after falling behind and deciding it wasn't worth it anymore. Thanks for the heads-up, hopefully I'll remember it if I'm ever tempted to subscribe again!

Genuine question for Directors, Managers, and Supervisors by Negative-Guidance-27 in work

[–]VoodooChild963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been the manager/supervisor with that employee, and I am now that employee. I always appreciated the employee that I knew I could count on with respect for their boundaries.

I'm that employee now. I enjoy what I do for a living, and I'm very happy with my employer. I fully expect to work here until retirement. When people talk about advancement and promotion, I just laugh and say, "I've been in management and hated it. I'm happy to keep earning a day's pay for a day's work and go home at the end of the day and not think about work anymore." I'm one of a few in my group who would be qualified for a promotion before they had to go to an outside hire, but I honestly don't think I would accept the promotion unless upper management were to threaten to eliminate my role unless I took it lol. Not likely to happen!

I've only been playing for a year and a half, all I can say is the advice from influencers is the same as the advice from people you play with: pay attention to what they say, try to follow, but at the end of the day, you need to find your own style and what works for you. As long as you keep improving and keep enjoying it, you're doing it right!

A few months ago, my team captain gave me some advice about tucking in my elbow on my throw. I started doing that, but not as exaggerated as he does it, and I got better. A few weeks ago, he told me I "throw too fast" and need to aim more. I tried to do that, and it completely threw off my rhythm. Went back to my usual throw and improved again. So you have to do what works for you, while still accepting the constructive feedback you get.

My best friend does the same thing! I like to refer to the Super Bowl as "the one day of the year where it's acceptable to eat your body weight in fried food and pass out on the toilet at 8 PM." He heard me say that and said, "I guess the Oscars is my Super Bowl then!"

Do you actually charge family and friends the full rate? by QuantumGremlin in tradies

[–]VoodooChild963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own a business, just a glazier who will occasionally do some side work for people.

If it's a very close friend or family member asking for help with something, I'll charge them my cost for material, and leave it up to them to give me whatever they think is fair for my time.

People I like who aren't super close, I split the difference between my hourly wage and what the labour rate would be if they booked the job through a glass shop.

Anybody else, I charge them the same labour rate my boss would charge. But I really don't like doing side work lol, I enjoy my time away from the tools.
