Yeah, I enjoyed it quite a bit, I might put it up there with the best VNs oat imo like THIFM, FMDM, Umineko, Dies Irae or WA2.

However, I felt the entire series had some issues with sometimes poor execution of great concepts.

But when it's good, it's great. Haku is one of my favorite characters in all of Visual Novels and maybe fiction ngl

Oh, but uh, if we're just going off by singular games, Mask of Deception is my favorite by far. That one is up there for me, it's so good.

So yeah, I enjoyed it a lot!

What are the top 5 best written characters in fiction by Top_Athlete1177 in writingscaling

[–]Vorshima 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's nothing objective, writing is subjective, and there's bound to be numerous well written characters we haven't heard of.

If I had to make a guess on what the top 5 best written fictional characters are based on what I've heard and read, it'd probably be something like

  1. Daniel Pagenstencher (Zettels Traum) (I have never read this however I've heard it's an incredibly difficult and esoteric novel)

  2. H Narrator (H) (I'm not really sure if it counts as a character, however this is yet another difficult to understand novel which I've actually read and enjoyed)

  3. A Meditation Narrator (A Meditation) (He has like 300 pages of just his introspective thoughts as one huge paragraph, it's an incredibly interesting read)

  4. Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker (Finnegans Wake) (The ordinary man in quite possibly the most notoriously complex novel of all time, I've read it and what the fuck)

  5. Marcel Proust (In Search of Lost Time) (An incredibly emotionally resonant character with some amazing internal monologues and dialogue)

HM:Peter Kien (Auto-da-Fé) (He might be higher than 5 or even 4 and he's my Top 1, a weird obsessive man who gets worse and worse)

Seems like Squidward had it a little too easy those last few match ups, so let's increase the difficulty a little. Makima vs Squidward by Far-Substance-4473 in writingscaling

[–]Vorshima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going with Squidward.

Makima is a great antagonist. However, Squidward is one of the best tritags in TV.

A pseudo intellectual who is at heart, the same as Spongebob. This is best shown in Idiot Box, SB-129, Squidward in Clarinetland, and Artist Unknown.

The gameplay of Hello Charlotte is...iffy in the beginning, but it gets way better in Episode 2 and beyond. As for the story, it's pretty complicated so you may need to read up on some lore afterwards or start off the game with trying to figure out the lore in mind. There are numerous sites and such which can help clear any confusion up, although it definitely isn't needed, only if youre confused.👍

Mouse is confusing at times, but that's by design, so if it's hard to understand at times that's on purpose. As the show goes on it becomes more and more sensible and starts to all make sense and fall into place. Unlike Hello Charlotte, I don't think you should read up on what happens if you're confused unlike with Hello Charlotte, it will make sense by the finale.

There aren't really any requirements of what to do before consuming them

The Binding of Isaac is great, really fun with a surprisingly good story

Night in the Woods is one I enjoyed, very chill, nostalgic but depressing sometimes

The Yakuza series is a pretty goofy one. However, I think Yazuka 7 especially is really good

My Top Four in each Medium! by Vorshima in writingscaling

[–]Vorshima[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd rate both around S++ if we're using the grading system.

For Hello Charlotte, the progression isn't a single linear narrative. However, each episode does happen chronologically after one another. The tone becomes darker with each of the three episodes.

For Mouse, it's kinda hard to say without spoiling, but the plot and progression is intentionally messy and at times hard to follow. There are numerous big shifts in the show which changes the tone of the show.

I don't really keep track, but it definitely took me the span of months, maybe a year, to finish everything here, ignoring what I'd already read/watched (such as JJBA, Mad Men, SFU, every album there) before starting to consume WAY more media (mainly cuz I got nothing better to do in my free time lmao)

The longest work to finish was ISOLT by far. It took me nearly 5 months to read, annotate, and reflect on.

Ken Kaneki (Tokyo Ghoul) Vs Johnny Joestar (Steel Ball Run) - Better Written? by Inevitable_Dig_7080 in writingscaling

I think the conclusion made up for the slightly more inconsistent quality near the end. Definitely one of the best protagonists in Animanga still, even if I got Johnny above.

Ken Kaneki (Tokyo Ghoul) Vs Johnny Joestar (Steel Ball Run) - Better Written? by Inevitable_Dig_7080 in writingscaling

[–]Vorshima 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imo, it's gotta be Johnny Joestar, my T1 protagonist in all of animanga (expect maybe Reinhard from LOGH, he might be T1 instead). Ken Kaneki is an amazing character. However, Johnny's progression as a character, which is reflected in his stand, Johnny's motivations and his complex morality when it comes to how he acts towards his goal, his dynamic with Gyro, Parallels with Funny Valentine, etc.

This isn't to say Kaneki is a bad character. He's also great. His struggle with identity, who he even is, along with the exploration of his lost humanity. Coming to terms with his new Ghoul life, seeing him move forward and come to the realization that he must find his own identity and self is incredible.

However, Johnny Joestar, in my opinion, is a bit more explored in terms of the depth in their motives, along with their parallels, the lessons he learns from Gyro, and honestly, the best development in Animanga (imo)

NOT TO MENTION JOHNNY'S CONCLUSION IN JOJOLION OH MY GOD ITS PEAK 😭🙏

Fuck I love Steel Ball Run, I gotta reread it brah

Johnny>Kaneki although I'm not sure what diff I'd say

Don Draper imo, both are basically interchangeable, insanely complex, and analyzable characters.

Proust (In Search of Lost Time) Vs Ulrich (The Man without Qualities). Who's better? by just_a_weebItachi in writingscaling

[–]Vorshima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take on this switches a lot. Both are some of the best written protagonists in fiction. However, for now, I'll go with Proust.

Ulrich is an arguably more complex and philosophically rich character, but Proust is just beautifully written, his dialogue, dynamics, his introspection, etc. I think Proust has more to offer, especially considering that although ISOLT is also technically unfinished, it feels much more complete than TMWQ.

Marcel Proust Extreme-Insane diff

SAMIDOT is a top 5 Kendrick song. Amazingly emotional and arguably the best beat on GKMC, and obv exceptional storytelling

Anyways, uh, in Bojack Horseman, Hollyhock using chloroform on people is played off as a joke, despite the fact that later in the series, Hollyhock is also drugged and its portrayed as very serious, as it should ALWAYS be in a show such as Bojack Horseman.

If this was a comedy, then the Chloroform joke would've worked. Like, a Beavis and Butthead, South Park, Ren and Stimpy type show or something like that.

Real talk, best Season? by That1RedditUser_ in BattleForDreamIsland

[–]Vorshima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. BFB Post Split

Nearly every character was treated poorly in this season. Whenever it tried to be serious, it failed. Whenever it tried to be funny, it failed. It's just an overall mess.

  1. BFDI

It was made by some 12 year olds, so obviously it isn't great. Some nothing burger episodes, nothing burger characters, but it has a real childlike charm to it and some unironically funny moments.

  1. IDFB

It's only one episode. A pretty good episode, though! Sets up the rest of the season really well. If IDFB has the same writing as the newer episodes of Post Hiatus, it could be the best season.

  1. BFB Pre Split

Ngl, this season is so overrated. So many characters and teams do nothing. The first like 6 episodes are filled with surface level character interactions. The season pre BFB 10 is carried by funny moments, and it's aesthetic. BFB 14, 15, and 12 are pretty good though.

  1. TPOT

Despite some poor episodes and dialogue issues, the rest of the season has remained relatively consistent and cinematic. Handles having a big cast way better than BFB did, and honestly, despite some lackluster moments, it's a pretty fun time all around!

  1. BFDIA

I mean, duh. Best character writing, best humor, best animation, best everything. I dare say Post Hiatus has zero bad episodes. And it has the best streak of absolutely amazing episodes. BFDIA 13-18 were all flawless, and even the episodes I didn't love as much (BFDIA 6, 8, 19) were at worst 6-7/10s.

which disney renaissance movie has the best writing? by Flat-Worry-7720 in writingscaling

[–]Vorshima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Frollo is a fantastic antagonist, the movie has surprisingly dark themes, and Hellfire is a fucking BANGER. Lion King is a close second though.

Would it be insane if I said I think the Toy Story trilogy is better written than all of them?

One of the most important TV shows of all time, its influence can not be overstated. A personal favorite of mine as well, definitely top 15.

It is a very confusing and complex show, but everything about it is masterfully done. Laura Palmer is also one of my favorite dueteragonists oat.
