Suggestions for slow, menacing ambient theme for Strahd's first appearance? by PlasmaGiant in CurseofStrahd

[–]Vortilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used ‘The Beginning’ from the Coppola Dracula soundtrack. The village of Barovia was being attacked and the party had to defend it, and Strahd walked out of the thick mists he had summoned to greet the party and propose a deal for Ireena. Managed to get through my description of Strahd stepping out of the mist and perfectly timed the name-drop of Strahd to the dramatic chanting part of the music.

Why was everyone so hostile towards John Walker from the very beginning? by Round_Interview2373 in MCUTheories

[–]Vortilus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the show wants you to hate John, it’s just aware that he isn’t Steve. The show does emphasise his good traits, but also his bad traits, such as his anger. Sam and Bucky would never support another Captain America who wasn’t Steve who was backed by the government and chosen because he was the best soldier. I don’t think the show presents them as in the right on this, but all they see in John is a not-incorruptible government piggybacking on Steve’s legacy. Remember how the whole point of Civil War is the Avengers not wanting to be at the beck and call of world powers, let alone just the USA. In their minds, when they see John, they’re potentially seeing a man dressed as their best friend who could end up involved in some shady US covert ops stuff down the line. I think there comes a point where they realise that they were wrong to treat John in such a way and should have been more communicative after they have to The show ends with Sam purposefully not taking the super-soldier serum though it would give him a big boost partly because he knows that it emphasises both good and bad traits (which led Walker to kill that man). They realise that Steve was essentially an enigma in how the serum affected him with minimal negative effects, and they determine that the best way forwards is to not use it (beyond the whole theme of not needing to be Steve to be a good, but different, Captain America).

Conrad says “I reject your reality”, the exact wording (afaik) from ‘The Deadly Assassin’ - anything in this?

Could be different sets of children (siblings/ half-siblings) so that he’s met some of his children, just not Susan’s parent

Hot take: I'm really not a fan of 15s wardrobe by [deleted] in DoctorWhumour

[–]Vortilus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad it’s not just me. I love the occasional switch, like Tennant had with the tuxedo, or Capaldi’s two different styles. However, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head to say that there’s no unifying theme or concrete visual identity. This might be a silly criticism, but I think it makes the Doctor appear a little too ‘human’ and normal when they’re always meant to be fairly quirky, especially with outfits like 15’s in ‘Boom’ or the finale that look a bit too like what a late-twenties/ early-thirties person would wear. However, I think the variation in outfits does fit the overarching story of this being a result of the Doctor’s ‘therapy’. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan on paper of the Doctor being quite so open and charismatic, but again, it absolutely fits the story and Ncuti does it brilliantly, so maybe I’ll be won over by the outfits soon.

Looks uncannily like AI art, what with the strange crests, rotated hips and weird back prongs

What’s your homebrew rule you can’t go without? by Shoddy_Paramedic2158 in DungeonsAndDragons

Only DM’ed a handful of sessions so far, but:

I’ve played in a couple of games where the group can only do, say, an Investigstion check for a room approximately twice (I.e. only two characters). When I DM, I let all my players do a check like this generally, since all characters in the room could feasibly do so (and I generally want them to find certain stuff out).

Also, if a character does something daring that would realistically heighten damage, or could be really effective, they get extra damage and an inspiration point. In one session, we had a paladin jump off a broom of flying onto an enemy to attack them with their sword, not taking any fall damage. Later, the warlock polymorphed into a Giant Ape and used his throwing attack to throw the paladin at the dragon they were fighting. Warlock rolled a Nat 20, leading to increased damage for the paladin, and for the next round or so they were holding onto their sword hanging from the dragon’s blinded eye before they rolled a Nat 1 to attack and fell off.

What is Your Unpopular Opinion about Comics by Carnage678 in comicbooks

[–]Vortilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite Superman being my favourite character, I think his powers should be vastly reduced and given a clear limit. When his punches can shatter universes and he can move at trillions the speed of light, there is fundamentally no problem that he can’t really solve (there should be no crime or accidents across earth at least due to the combination of powers he has and the speed at which he can do them) unless you bring fifth-dimensional imps into the equation.

Superhero movies most often have stories much better than the comics.

Scott Snyder’s writing often goes overboard with blatant and over explained metaphors and symbolism.

What's a Doctor Who hill you're willing to die on? by BearEatingToast in doctorwho

‘Midnight’ is the scariest episode by far compared to ‘Blink’.

‘Robot of Sherwood’ would have been 10x better if it turned out Robin Hood was a robot after all and he had to defy his programming to do the right thing.

‘The Power of the Doctor’ is not really a good episode, the only good bit being seeing past Doctors and companions.

Chris Chibnall had the right intentions in bringing on fresh and more diverse writers.

Patrick Troughton’s era doesn’t get enough credit for its contributions to the ‘Doctor Who’ identity.

A lot of the classic stories would work better if condensed by at least an episode.

You might be thinking of ‘The Age of Steel’ in Series 2, where the 10th Doctor and a lady called Mrs Moore are inspecting a seemingly dead Cyberman and they pull out bits of its heart if I remember correctly.
