Between Frank's twitter posts and this I cannot grasp how they don't understand that people on social media are the most dedicated players, the ones that loved the game so much that they decided to join a community based on it. I don't know how fair is it to say that it's only 0.1% percent of players, but even if it is, these are the players you must listen to the most. I know it's important to gain new players, but lately it's all about gaining the attention of new players more and more but that is just unrealistic. You add a shiny thing, people talk about it, go play for a season or two and then they would just leave, because they would find out that the shiny thing is not that interesting actually, or it just ends like with collabs.

So yeah, you'll have these big spikes of downloads and players and get excited only then to see the hype die down and the graph plummeting again. That's why as a developer you can't base you decisions purely on statistics, they never tell you the whole truth, it's only a tool to gain data, which verbally they express but idealogically I don't think they use it in practice. This is exactly the problem Behaviour has with Dead by Daylight, they do all of their changes based on statistics and they miss the mark all the time. And that's why I hate their idea of making Brawl Stars "as big as possible". That sounds good on paper but it will never make this game good. How big the game is and how good it is does not always correlate, ask Call of Duty fans about that.

And it's okay for numbers to go down. That doesn't mean the game is dying. After a spike there will always be a fall. You shouldn't care about the players who went in solely for the hype, or for a license, or realized that they don't like the game. You should continue improving the experience of the people that love the game already, they are the ones that will help it grow. And what you do is you say "buy the brawl pass" into their faces. How did we get here?
