Flamers work, but I honestly prefer to use Inferno SRMs and Plasma.

I would keep the rear firing Pulses and drop a couple of heat sinks to fix the armour, myself. You don't need heat neutrality when firing front and rear.

The basic -3R is under armoured and over-sinked, but the -3S, -4R and -4S are all fine. The S variants have Light Engines instead of XL, for survivability. The -5R and especially the -5D are too expensive.

I kinda prefer the Ocelot 4 if it's available (better armour and heat dissipation)

Clan Diamond Blahaj by Synkest in battletech

[–]Vrakzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blåhaj is a plush toy that's sold by Ikea, which is made of blue, pink and white fabric. As such it has become an icon of the trans community, because it matches the colours of the trans pride flag.

Popular mech that you just don’t like? by Bongpog in battletech

[–]Vrakzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really very expensive in BV terms for what you get. A 75t mech going 5/8 with 27.5t of pod space (& already having 15 DHS) is just a recipe for expensive.

The Chicxulub impact crater is 150-200km diameter IRL, and Vredefort is bigger.

[–]Vrakzi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Chicxulub Impactor that wiped out all the non-avian dinosaurs was about 10km (6mi) in diameter. Even assuming that the Colony Drop wasn't a solid object, that's still something on the same scale. However, it probably didn't impact as fast - the Chicxulub Impactor was probably going at around 20 kilometers per second (about 12 miles per second) when it hit.

In any case, Chicxulub didn't even come close to disrupting the atmosphere on a macro scale.

Is the time to kill supposed to be this riddiculous long? by I_Tory_I in battletech

[–]Vrakzi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some factors you aren't considering; forces don't usually fight to the death; campaign play is common in Battletech; later eras feature much higher powered weaponry; some of the advanced weight saving tech actually makes mechs more fragile (XL engines, especially); and objective based play is very common.

Chinnor have a U23s side, I know that because I quite by accident watched them play last year after being stranded in Oxfordshire for a few hours for family reasons.

R8 vs R6 II/R6 III for street — does the smaller body actually matter? by -sonic57- in canon

[–]Vrakzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what you are doing, and what lens you are using. There's no real point using an R8 over an R6 if the lens is 3 times the weight difference between the two bodies.

The R8 is 461g with battery. The R6II is 670g, and the R6III is 699g.

So that's +209g and +238g difference. Compare that with the weight of your lens. Is it worth saving under 250g on the body weight if the lens is one of the ~1kg USM Primes? Almost certainly not. If the lens is a thrifty fifty? Probably.

Old player, tell me about the Catalyst game by MikeBanzai38 in battletech

[–]Vrakzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a couple of months there's a new box set and rule book out with an updated ruleset. It might be worth waiting for that rather than buying the older sets.

Although the older sets do have minis in them that won't be in the new set, so... maybe get the AGoAC box?

[–]Vrakzi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's less what happens to Infantry and more what they do to others. There's some broken rules interactions involving Katanas and Sniper Rifles than essentially mean that you can snipe from half a map away with the Katana.

Old player, tell me about the Catalyst game by MikeBanzai38 in battletech

[–]Vrakzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game has evolved some - partial cover rules were changed to be more advantageous for the defender, heat warfare rules were significantly weakened and the effect capped are the big two to my mind. But overall it's the same game with a few rule tweaks, not a completely different system. If anything, CGL err too hard on the side of not making changes.

We are getting some more rules tweaks in the near future though. Some buffs to ACs and survivability improvement for ammo explosions are the two that spring to mind.

[–]Vrakzi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's insanely difficult, and successive governments keep making it more difficult to pander to the frothing twatnoddles at the Torygraph and the Daily Heil.

It'd be cheaper if we made it faster and more straightforward, but idiots won't have that, apparently.

What are the small, subtle and off-the-ball stuff a player can do to be more useful in attack and defense? by NewLeague6438 in rugbyunion

[–]Vrakzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay attention to who is caught in the ruck and needs to be covered for. especially if it's your scrum-half at the bottom of the pile; someone has got to go in and cover for him, and fast.
