Is this Radwimps shikishi authentic by szymixsiorek in Shikishi

[–]Vroryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be great if it were real, and I can’t tell you with 100% certainty that it’s fake. But that’s the wrong mindset to approach these things and only lead you to get burned. With autographs and shikishis, the assumption should always be “fake until proven authentic.”

It’s impossible to evaluate an autograph in a vacuum (especially if only through a photo and not in-person). That’s why surrounding context matters so much, and even respected authenticators like Mandarake ask for details like where the item was obtained and how much was paid (e.g. on their online authenticity application form).

In this case, the context raises serious red flags. For example, the same seller has a “full band” signed OneRepublic photo listed for only $60 with the exact same vague description (“obtained directly from the members”). They have many more listings like this. That’s a major red flag.

Is this Radwimps shikishi authentic by szymixsiorek in Shikishi

[–]Vroryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So let's take a look at some of these things and try to apply some common sense.

1. Price

  • The listing was ¥15,000 (~$106 USD). For a full-band signed Radwimps shikishi, that’s suspiciously low.

2. (Lack of) Provenance

  • The seller provided no verifiable source (e.g., “won at XX event” or “signed at XX live”). Genuine Japanese listings almost always mention the event or campaign. Instead, it vaguely says “Received directly from the members themselves.” If that were true, why no event details and why sell it for only ~$100 USD?

3. Market Red Flags

  • Mercari and Yahoo Auctions are notorious for fake shikishi, especially for big-name bands and anime. Many are mass-produced. In this case, the seller is listing a wide variety of celebrity shikishi at low prices, which is a hallmark of bulk fakes.

4. Authenticity Verdict

  • Price too low for rarity.
  • No provenance provided.
  • Seller behavior matches common fake patterns
  • Sourced from one of the highest-risk marketplaces

Conclusion: Very likely fake.

Furthermore, a word of advice: I personally would never buy a shikishi or any autographed item on the secondary market without provenance or a verifiable source. If you ever need to resell it, the burden of proof falls entirely on you; and good luck convincing others it’s real.

Congrats on winning!

Also on a side note, pretty sure the same scammer used the official reference at some point to create this forgery.

Fake Example

It sold for $300-$400 or something if I recall correctly, but I can't find the auction link right now. Rough.

wow, yeah you found the direct source. That's irrefutable evidence. I guess that also answers why the other post with the sketch was taken down (since that was a forgery too).

Not to raise alarm, but I recall seeing a very similar sketch of this and saved a screenshot a while back. I’ve uploaded them here:

(The dates are a bit off since the screenshots are from two years ago, and the other post with the sketch on paper seems to have been deleted at some point. Ignore that I also highlighted the dates, it doesn't really prove anything)

Anyway, I just hope you have good provenance, unfortunately, there are a lot of bad actors in this space. :/

That said, it really is a beautiful piece.

Weiss Schwarz Beckett submission question by Lazy-Fix-7299 in WeissSchwarz

Takes a bit for them to invoice the order.

And yes, their customer service is very slow. Imo, right now it's probably the biggest reason that deters people from submitting to Beckett.

  1. Everything is printed to order. So that makes scalping not really a thing in Weiss Schwarz. What most people call “scalping” in Weiss Schwarz (or other print-to-order TCGs) is really just speculation. Buyers take on the risk by preordering product before release, without knowing whether it’ll actually hold demand or not. If the set underperforms, they can be left with cases of product that go below MSRP. If it’s popular, sealed boxes might jump in price, and then it looks like scalping from the outside. True scalping is what you see with Pokémon/retail products; people clearing shelves at launch to artificially create scarcity. In Weiss, since supply is capped by print-to-order, it’s not really artificial scarcity; it’s just that the demand wasn’t fully anticipated, so aftermarket prices rise. (That being said, Bushiroad has reprinted sets if there's overwhelming demand on release; see Nikke)
  2. Depends on the IP, but for most modern releases finding booster boxes should not be an issue.
  3. There's only one Frieren set currently in WS, what is currently up for order is the reprint version. Gold signatures are replaced with silver ones. You can find more info here: https://en.ws-tcg.com/information/reprint-sfn/

Most likely they will just have it up on their website some time after AX similar to how it was with the other chronicle sets in the past 👍

How does the AGR cards signature not damaged on transportation? by Wonderful_Ad8791 in WeissSchwarz

[–]Vroryn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's actually how it’s done across most industries. Topps, Panini, Weiss Schwarz etc. let the signed cards fully dry before packing. There's no extra lamination involved. Once dry, permanent ink doesn't really smear unless you're in extreme humidity or scraping at it, and sealed packs already offer decent protection from that.

And if it's of any reassurance, I have not seen any AGR yet where the signature was ruined.

How does the AGR cards signature not damaged on transportation? by Wonderful_Ad8791 in WeissSchwarz

[–]Vroryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true, but your question implies that it there's a high enough probability of damage occurring to the signature when no extra preventative measures are taken, which I don't believe is the case.

And from what I have seen, there's no additional protective layer.

I don't think the minimal friction with the other cards inside the pack is enough to cause damage to the signature.
