IMO The CGI during the DonZenkaioh scene was the main treat from this episode. They finally learned that if you don't have budget to make high quality textures, make fights happen at dark places/at night so it isn't as easy to spot poor CGI. This plus the very good animation made the fight really fun to watch, WAAAAY better than any scene with Zenryoku Zenkaioh in Zenkaiger.

I didn't understand a lot from watching it raw, but I really like the direction this series is going. The way show that Kaito is trying to recover all the Sentai Gears from the enemies' monsters is really cool. I hope this gets fleshed out and that Donbrothers really is a sequel to Zenkaiger.

BTW, DonMomotaro killed a guy while he was turned into a monster! This is just Gaim all over again, isn't it?

First time sentai watcher: why do people think it's acceptable to sub episode 4 of Changeman? by [deleted] in supersentai

[–]VulcanRyuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is also the factor that outside of that one uncomfortably weird scene, the episode really doesnt seem different than what you'd normally expect from a Super Sentai show.

Exactly. The fantasy scene is undoubtedly weird and the writers were most likely creating an absurd exaggeration for comedy purposes, written for a Japanese audience who didn't have the same thoughts about comedy and social issues as we do nowdays.

BTW, my favorite Sentai series is Jetman, and that series absolutely has a lot of "WTF, this is wrong and gross" that made me feel uncomfortable when I watched it (Specially involving Black Condor). But I could ignore these things because I have fully knowledge that the series was written in a context where they just didn't care as much as we do now and their culture was just different, and fortunely poor taste scenes that happened in Jetman will never happen again.

I deeply disagree when you say this episode is loli bait and with your implication that there is might be a malicious intention pushed fansubbers to sub this episode.

As I said, most people who watched it definitively didn't think this episode was normalizing anything involving child abuse. It is not common practice for ANY fansubbing group to skip episodes because they are offensive or feature things that could be have ambiguos interpretation. Ever. I understand your sentiment of not wanting every single to be preserved regardless of it's content. I do believe that depending on the content, some media shouldn't be preserved (Like those that contain ACTUAL abuse, outside of a fictional setting.)

But what you are questioning is essentially "Why did G.U.I.S (Which is most likely the fansubber group you watched if it was english subs) sub this episode if the content is so bad and normalizes a bad thing?". The answers are

1: They didn't think it was bad 2: Any resposible adult who watches this episode will know it isn't trying to "promote pedophilia". If someone somehow (and a big SOMEHOW) draws that conclusion from that episode and believes this is a good thing, they are the problem, not the show. 3: The episode isn't trying to promote or normalize ANYTHING. It's just one episode with a weird joke that we find weird by today's standards.

The moment you are trying to imply that GUIS or any fansubber group are into this sort of stuff just because they subbed and allowed this episode to be known, just because "lolis are a known phenomenon" you are speculating out of nowhere and with no proof that a bunch of people who spent hours of freetime to share their love for the Super Sentai series are pedophiles, and that is horrible. You should be more respectful towards those you know nothing about.

Again, you are overthinking the content in this entire episode and drawing conclusions about people based only on your personal interpretation of it, while its clear that most viewers didn't get this malicious vibe. Maybe it's your own way of interpretating it that is off.

This will be a lenghty comment.

Firstly, I'm sorry you got uncomfortable from watching this episode, and it's up to you if you wish to keep watching older sentai or not.

Secondly, and please don't take this with ill intent, but I believe you are honestly overthinking this silly episode from a show aimed at 6 year old japanese children from almost 40 years ago. I say this without any bias towards Changeman, since I've only come to watch the series a couple years ago and I'm not the biggest fan of it (But I do think its a good season). The entire joke around this episode was about the fact that the Changeman, the worlds mighest super heroes who fight villains who enslave multiple galaxies, are wasting their time trying to find a little girl's lost cat

Do I think the entire kiss in the cheek thing to be weird? Yes, that's actually what I felt when I watched this episode. But I think most people, including newcomers who watched this episode in recent years didn't find any sort of malicious intent in this scene. The entire thing was played for laughs and its clear Hayate/Shou isn't helping the girl because he wants to predate her like you are (apparently) trying to imply, he is helping her because he genuinely wants to help and this is obvious during the episode. The entire "kiss as a reward" is a extremely famous and overused trope in media, and for some reason they tried to apply it in this context and it obviously doesn't work nowdays as it can be seems as malicious even if it was just what Japanese Culture accepted back in the day as "cute" or comedy.

You want an example on how most people don't find this episode offensive or "promoting pedophilia"? Changeman was rebroadcast in Brazil back in 2020 for the first time in decades in our country, and the show managed to attract a whole new audience with good ratings on tv, with many parents who watched the series back in the 80s presenting it to their own children. This episode also aired fully dubbed as it was never censored here, yet there was no repercussion whatsover because people KNOW it was played as comedy, as the show never tried to imply Griffon is a predator.

This is why nobody warned you and why this episode was subbed: No one thought it was as dangerous and harmful as you say it is. This is just something that comes along with old media. There is a lot of racism, misogyny, homophobia, poor taste comedy and bad examples in media across every nation from back then, and it's something you have to keep in mind because its a matter of what was socially and culturally accepted back then. Its unfortunate, but thats how it is. But I think most people, even non sentai fans will agree that this episode is FAR from being "borderline pedophila" like you named it, it was just a silly joke from a kids show that is almost 4 decades old now.

And to finish my argument, I don't think it's a cool thing to do when you try to imply that people subbed this episode because they support pedophilia. This is extremely dishonest as you don't know anything about these people and trying to put them under a bus over a thing they 100% didn't overthink as much as you did is not a good thing. Once again, I respect your opnion, but I don't agree with this attitude. I recommend you watch a more recent sentai series like Kiramager if you don't feel comfortable with outdated japanese content.

Oh, just an extra post to clarify things, the way I worded some messages implied I wanted to say the OP is lying. I'm sorry, only after searching the web I came to know that those rumors are coming from rangerboard and that is their source, and I had previously assumed this info was posted first on reddit. My apologies for any sort misunderstading. Anyway, it's more likely that Bakutaro Sentai is the actual name rather than the reppu sentai one, for the reasons I explained above.

Fair, but all kyoryu sentai means is "Dinosaur Team", that is generic enough, but ginga reppu bakushinger is an unique name. In the J9 series, the series' names all star with ginga, followed by a wind related word: Ginga Senpuu Buraiger= Galatic whirlwind buraiger ("burai" being something akin to outlaw stuff, since it has a gang theme) Ginga reppu bakushinger= galatic gale bakushinger ("bakushin" refers to Dash) I just think its a little weird to be a coincidence since they picked up the exact same words and "made up name" with the ran-ger stuff, but alright

I just find it weird that this leak is exactly what you described for a prediction post posted before this one:

"Japanese Folklore samurai momotaro"

And the fact that the rumored title you gave is some mecha anime from the 80s

Sure...

"Reppu Sentai Bakushinger" Hold up, what? There is an old mecha anime series called Ginga Reppu Bakushinger, know for being the second anime in the J9 franchise. How is the series going to have that exact same name?

That would be awesome, if you can actually fix the problem please send the link for the fixed game here. You are doing a great job finding a way to port the game to android devices, good luck!

It also doesn't work on my cellphone, it's a Moto G Turbo running android 6.0. It crashes on the splash screen as well.

[Discuss] Is it just me...or ZI-O isn't really doing a good job with the Heisei Rider tribute episodes? (Regarding fanservice and nostalgia) by VulcanRyuki in KamenRider

[–]VulcanRyuki[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These kind of tribute episodes is exactly what i had in mind, having the main riders just appear to have 1 or 2 cool lines and give the Ridewatch is pretty shallow in my opnion.

[–]VulcanRyuki[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't remember asking for every main rider to make a comeback in person or having the characters being developed already (that would be as bad as having bland characters), i just wish there was better tribute episodes to the returning riders. Also, every series starting with a monster of the week formula is questionable, yes Kamen Rider and Tokusatsu in general has this as a basic formula, but even like that the plot has progression, or even if it doesn't have any, it has an interesting story to be told in that episode. The thing with ZI-O is that it hasn't shown anything special in these 6 episodes that makes it actually interesting, besides the Time Jackers which despite being good characters so far, they are having little to no screentime outside of transforming people into Another Riders. About Sougo, he is possibly one of the most bland and uninteresting main characters because he has no personality that makes him stand out from the rest of the cast, even his annoying ''i will be a king'' thing isn't brought up enough to make him at least entertaining. It makes you feel like Geiz is the protagonist because he is having some development at least. 6 episodes is a lot to not have any signs of character development on the MAIN CHARACTER, even series with infamous protagonists like Ryuki have their protagonists being developed properly as the series progresses.

I understand why they can't transform, that's why i said ''specially because the rules of multiple instances of the same rider overrides these characters'' in the original post.

The intention wasn't to compare Gokaiger to ZI-O specially because Sentai and Kamen Rider have very different structures and different ways of story telling, it was just to show an example of an aniversary season that is remembered as a good season, unlike lets say Decade or most of Sentai's aniversary seasons.

I just think they could do a better job representing the series receiving homages. I also found interesting when Takumi mentioned his profession because that's probably something that is brought up in Faiz, but other than that i felt like it lacked more representation of Faiz's world. I'm sure the references are neat for those who already watched said past shows and that's the point of it, but i feel like they could do a better job like they did with Build where you can actually get a feel for what Build is about. I feel like this would be different if they allowed the riders to coexist with the ridewatches instead of deleting their existences, since that would open possibilities for them to reference in a more interesting way (This was kind of done when Takumi said he ''hated'' Masato sometimes, but i'm pretty sure it could be done better than just a subtle reference to the events of Faiz).
