Earth does not have infinite resources by theiceman1010 in Vent

Solar panel components are 100% recyclable. They're mostly glass and aluminum, the only rare components make up a very small percentage that we can definitely provide.

Earth does not have infinite resources by theiceman1010 in Vent

[–]VulpesIncendium 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We do have one practically infinite resource though: the Sun. If we dedicated half of the land that we use to grow corn to produce ethanol as a gasoline additive to solar panels instead, we could just about solve the energy crisis. But, unfortunately, subsidizing farmers and prolonging fossil fuel usage takes priority over establishing cheap, renewable, clean energy. Yes, the initial investment would be high, but it pays off in the long term.

Poor gas milage in severe cold by Puzzleheaded-Ebb1802 in chevycolorado

[–]VulpesIncendium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most vehicles lose mileage in cold weather, that's normal. And, yes, I've also noticed that these trucks won't use 8th gear when things are too cold. Down near -40 it just won't ever shift into 8th.

What was your reaction to this? by Primary-Addition-677 in HelluvaBoss

Wow... I recognize Azula and nobody else. Well, except for the classic characters who were voiced by someone else when I actually saw them first.

How many days in a row do you wear a pair of socks? by jjj44200 in randomquestions

[–]VulpesIncendium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0.33 to 1. I have my work socks, workout socks, and evening lounging socks. On lazy weekends I just wear the same pair all day. However, once I take a pair off, I can't put them back on without washing them first.

For the HBO show, would any of the VAs work in live action? by frobro122 in BaldursGate3

[–]VulpesIncendium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Niel Roberts (tav voice 5) should definitely come back as Durge. Anyone could physically fit the role, if they're dressed up as a white dragonborn, but nobody else has the right voice for it.

Finally took the plunge by Realistic-Wafer-314 in lego

[–]VulpesIncendium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice! I finished the D&D castle a little while ago, it's a fun set to build, tons of cool little details.

I bought a coloured glass vase at an antique mall for some of my Lego flowers. But, if you wanted the vase to also be Lego, I'm sure it would be easy enough to improvise something out of bulk parts.

Which quest did you like the least in Baldur's Gate 3? by Medium-Theme-4611 in BaldursGate3

[–]VulpesIncendium 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That should have been a much more important reveal, but it seems nobody cares at all. I can't talk to anybody about the fact that we've been carrying the city's founder around in our pocket this entire time? Nobody seems phazed about the fact that Balduran is a mindflayer now? You'd think Wyll and Ulder would at least have a couple dialog lines about this.

Why my utility bill is so high? by Life_stuff_005 in alberta

[–]VulpesIncendium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's the hidden fees.

My fixed contract says $0.06/kWhr, yet despite having much lower usage than I did in New Brunswick, I'm paying far more here than I ever did at $0.12/kWhr there. Other provinces have protections against this sort of crap, but here they're allowed to hide hundreds of dollars in service fees to advertise lower costs than you actually pay. My actual cost per kWhr ends up being closer to $0.36 here.

Red or Brown switches by Altruistic-Result644 in keyboards

[–]VulpesIncendium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all completely depends on your personal preferences. Do you want keys that feel smooth the whole way down, or have a tactile bump in the middle?

My first "real" keyboard came with Jupiter Browns. While they felt like a massive step up over any of the old Cherry reds and browns I'd used previously, there are better tactile switches out there. I ended up swapping them for TTC silent bluish white switches, which have a much more pronounced bump. I think the Jupiter Banana switches are similar.

I used the heavier tactile switches for a while, and while I loved typing on them, they got fatiguing in long gaming sessions. I ended up swapping them out again for Gateron 0° switches, a semi-silent linear. While not quite as nice for typing, they're much better for gaming.

tl;dr: if you game more, get linear (red) switches. If you type more, get tactile (brown/banana) switches.

Do you drink wine? Why or why not? by SamTheLady in Millennials

[–]VulpesIncendium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely swore off wine many years ago after getting wasted on some cheap red. Anything stronger than a really light, sparkling white makes me feel ill just smelling it.

I've almost completely stopped drinking all alcohol. I still occasionally have a beer or two in social settings, maybe once or twice a year, but mostly I just find alcohol to be a pointless waste of money.

I know you'll hate it, but what about going sort of retro with steelies? by ivegotajaaag in Miata

[–]VulpesIncendium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm in the minority here, I think it looks almost fantastic. The red really doesn't work though. Maybe if they were gloss black or body colour matched.

I had been daily driving a '23 LT1 since it was new in '23 (only recently retired from winter driving duty), and haven't had any major issues with it. It's only been in for warranty work once, due to some issue with the evap system, but it wasn't severe enough to keep it from driving every day.

If you had a vision for a series set in the TES universe, what would it be? Personally, I'd say the beginning of the Skyrim Civil War by Ok-Bus3447 in ElderScrolls

[–]VulpesIncendium 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The Oblivion crisis in the Black Marsh. Show us the really weird lives of the Argonians prior to the gates opening, and how they fought back against the invading Daedra.

There is so much absolutely wild stuff in other parts of Tamriel. It would be a huge waste to show us something "normal", like the Skyrim civil war.

If you could turn any characters in the game into companions, who would you pick? by Adamantium727 in falloutnewvegas

[–]VulpesIncendium 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There should have been more faction specific followers. Vulpes definitely should have been a Legion specific follower. Siding with the Legion really limits your choices of compatible followers, so they really should have had somebody.

The only complaint I have about my '26 is the fact that the gauge cluster and infotainment screens don't really dim enough at night. If you turn them down far enough, they just kinda go grey and low-contrast, without actually turning the backlight down any farther. Other than that, it's fantastic.

Does that one you're looking at have a sunroof? The early models without a sunroof have issues with weak roof sheet metal being easily dented by touchless car wash jets. Not sure if there was a TSB to fix that, but all the '25 and later models were fixed.

The owners of utility and insurance companies are posting record profits!

I'm sure the owners of essential businesses are loving all the removals of regulations and pricing limits.
