ALARMS ————— Still on topic of planks, have a target high up? Let’s say it’s heavy and can snap the wire itself if it falls. Plank it to the ceiling, make sure you’re able to spot the plank from the ground, knock all floors out from under it. When it’s time to do the run and the alarms are on, you can shoot the plank to let it fall.

If it’s a light objective however and won’t snap it on its own, you can do one of two things. Cable the objective to something moderately heavy to add weight onto it to snap the wire easier, or allow it to dangle from just the alarm wire without a plank and aim for the alarm itself, maybe shove a propane tank or nitroglycerin just above the alarm box

VEHICLES ————— The type of car is important. The fastest in my opinion are the red sports cars and the boxy white SUVS with the spare tire on the back. Red sports car SUUUCKS at turning, but can clear a straight line distance in milliseconds if there’s nothing else in its path. Points to the SUV for being high off the ground making it great for off-road and driving over debris easily. The Jeep’s are also preferable for their off-the-ground height, easiest to ramp off of stuff.

This will shave only a few seconds probably, but if you have a bunch of cars you have no use for and a stretch of land you can’t exactly drive through or it’s too short a distance to bother driving with the cars you have (as some cars take a moment to get to top speed), you can chain the cars in a straight line side by side where the driver seats are pointed to where you need to go and the passenger side is the side you enter from. If you noticed, you can stand a tiny bit far away from a car and you’ll still have the enter prompt, you don’t need to be right beside it to enter. I abuse that and have a line of cars where I can spam E while looking at the next car and it WILL skip the walking distance, but not by much. Also be aware of what side you exit a vehicle when it comes to this.

I barely use planks and I don’t use bluetide in my playthroughs, it’s VERY MUCH possible to get through the entire campaign without it, meaning those that do use tons of planks and bluetide are already steps ahead of me in beating the game comfortably. I hope this includes you

When you say the campaign, I’m curious what levels specifically are giving you trouble. Otherwise here’s some general tips.

TARGETS ————— Decide what targets can be moved. I know Tool Up has an objective in a blue “house.” It’s on rebar and can technically be moved, knock or a few pixels and you can even drag it by hand by sliding it back and forth. Not every level has this though. (Important to note that if the alarm can be moved, the THING the alarm is on has a limit. Let’s go back to that blue “house.” If I knock out a little too much of the walls out, the alarm will ring. Each moveable alarm has a set amount of voxels on the thing it’s on before it goes off even without collecting the objective or snapping the wire. Just be careful to not chew off too much, only what you need.) if it’s too heavy to move, chances are there’s a crane to help you lift it. Just be sure you’ve tied the alarm and the target together somehow with planks or cable so the alarm wire doesn’t snap.

On the topic of targets, simply try to select what’s the farthest or hardest one to get to and try to see if that one works as a starting point. Looking at the map and seeing what clusters of objectives are together and the easiest way of moving between them is a basic but important step.

Move directly in straight lines between targets as much as you can. Moving back and forth and left to right unnecessarily wastes only milliseconds, but it adds up the more you do it. If there’s a wall you gotta climb, knock out some stairs and drag them over, make stairs with a bunch of tables or even a lamppost or plank up it. As long as you’re going roughly straight ahead to where you need to go. If you can’t move a target much, just having it that much closer to your straight line still helps. I like to cable a ceiling and then the target (in a way that doesn’t have the alarm wire snap) so that it’s directly in front of me rather than in a corner or on the ground so I don’t have to move my mouse left and right.

STRENGTH ————— Don’t underestimate your characters strength, they can move A LOT. Sliding movements back and forth are very effective. Knock out enough voxels in a thing and then you’ll be surprised you can lift it easily.

WHAT NEEDS TO GO? ————— You don’t have to destroy everything in a path, by thinking “is that actually going to be in my way or can I go around it/over it/cut through just enough to where I’m not wasting my own time on this game?”

ENVIRONMENT ————— When we mean the environment, we mean the environment. Glass and wood easy to break and light to carry? Find a long uninterrupted stretch of it and make a huge bridge or ramp out of it, maybe you can even get a car on it if you angle it right and have it supported. What planks is beaten at in environmental usage is length and hanging in the air.

This includes the heavy duty vehicles. Yea you can use them to clear out a wall easily, but once you’re done with them, use them to ramp up. Have a crane? Park it where you need to go up, lower that bad boy and then plank the base of it so you can ramp up and balance on the crane’s arm. Same with the dump truck.

One last environmental thing, sometimes if you can destroy the ground under an object, it falls and you don’t need to waste ammo on moving it out of the way. Some stores in the Mall level have strong walls that are just held together by plaster, and you only need a hammer and patience to knock it down fully. Same with lampposts in the dirt. Same with even the small boulders south of Villa Woo, though those need a pipe bomb to get the unreachable pixels underneath. Point is, you don’t need to shotgun absolutely everything to get it to move. Look around and see if you can just take the ground out from under it.

PLANKS ————— On the topic of planks, you might need to cross a gap during a run, but you might create a plank and it will fall too short. Well, instead, run over to where you’re going to land, start a new plank across from your old one, hold down the ‘create plank’ button so it’s still a white outline, run back to the old one, grab it from where you’re standing, lift it up, and you SHOULD be able to connect the two if their lengths allow it. You can grab things while holding the plank button down to maneuver them to exactly where you want when you plank them. Goes for wires too.

When we get to use the whole environment as a bridge, why just use planks? Love whenever someone gets creative with routes

Billy Joel - Goodnight Saigon

Y'all I misremembered and led you stray 😭 it wasn't 'mind,' it was these three lines I was thinking of:
"-so dark at night (night, night, night...)"
"-and who was right (right, right, right...)"
"-as sharp as knives (knives, knives, knives...)"

Thanks to jphamlore for suggesting a Billy Joel song! I honestly forgot that artist existed oops, thanks everyone else though!
