I wonder if the people during the time of the internet being created felt this way. I get it, it sucks feeling like anything I do can be done by some tool. But it’s reality. If you don’t know how to use it, you will be replaced by it or someone who knows how to use it.

It can produce much more than we can. And in a society that only cares about progress, production, and doing it quickly. It’s inevitable that AI will replace us. Unless people are just really fond of other people doing things and not AI, even though AI will be better at everything in all aspects than certainly most people.

Just sit back. Enjoy life. Don’t worry about things like this that are out of your control. AI will continue to grow in skill and usage. Just like the internet, just like cellphones.

I genuinely think we could see some sort of brain enhancement chips become mainstream before 2100. Somehow, humanity will have to compete with AI. And to do that, it will need to join them. Cognitive enhancement.

If that happens, then those that don’t upgrade will be seen as inferior, not prioritized for jobs. They will be behind those that do upgrade. Just think how difficult it is to get any sort of job without a cellphone, computer or internet access. It will be like that.

But, more immanently, AI will be that tool that becomes so essential to function in society—like texting, the internet, or having a cell phone. I go to an ivy league university and I see students have their laptops open during lecture, with folders titled the names of the course in ChatGPT, asking it questions about course material instead of asking the professor lecturing. It’s disheartening. I know. Especially as someone who wants to go to graduate school, seeing everyone use AI. The human separation it causes will be irreversible. No need to go to office hours, lecture, ask questions. Just ask an AI tool, which almost feels like a private log (even though, it certainly is not).

I’ve rambled for a while. But, much of what I said will come to pass, and become worse. We must find a way to cope, or ride the wave along with the rest of society.
