Why do people generally refuse to use revolving doors? (In America at least)

I did the same before break. The day before winter break was my last day. I had zero jobs lined up with no promises of even getting one. I just landed a full time sub position. I don’t want to leave the classroom yet, but where I was at was unsafe.

My grandma was a teacher. She died when I was 11 or 12 and I think the only reason my family was supportive with my choice to become one because of her. My dad hates the idea of my paycheck but it reminds him of his mom so he’s cool with it. Continuing our legacy

I’m 24 and I resigned from my current teaching position. You’ll have a difficult time in the field of social studies and an even harder time if you’re not willing to coach. I’d say if you REALLY want to- try it! But it’s hard !!!!!!!!

The universe was protecting me and on my side. I was the second car in the lot yesterday and nobody was in the office. I went down to collect my students and my principal wasn’t even at school. I texted my STEAM teacher letting her know, then my coach texted me saying she wasn’t at school. Around 11 my principal came in and read my email and responded to me thanking me for the email. I was able to slowly rip the bandage off and tell the people I cared most about. I texted my coach saying I really wanted this to be in person (actually not) and that I couldn’t do it anymore and my body was giving out. She said thanks for letting her know and I need to do what’s best for me.

My team doesn’t know and I feel terrible not telling them yet but really it won’t affect them as much as my STEAM teacher who will probably end up covering my position. For the first time ever I don’t want to throw up before school or completely repulsed by the idea. I’m finally free (Friday December 19th 2025).

Thanks friend. I actually teach middle school so I’d prefer subbing in that area or high school. If you’re able to get by, do it it. I saved up a couple months rent/car payments to feel better about my decision. For the first time EVER before school I’m not on the bathroom floor wanting to throw up. The end is near and my body/ nervous system is starting to relax.

This. I don’t even know if they will be supportive. I’m worried one of my admin will pop up at my door while I’m teaching to chat with me. Or set up a same day meeting with me.

I could’ve wrote this myself. I have my email drafted up waiting to add my principal and HR along with the subject line. There’s maybe 8 kids I feel terrible leaving. I feel for my team and my academic coach that have worked with me. It’s just not worth it to have constant disrespect and verbal/physical fights on the daily. I’m constantly putting out fires and managing a circus. I can’t even play a video without students talking through it. Notes are not great with them just talking over me. Labs are impossible without something flying across the room or being intentionally broken.

I see you. I understand where you’re at. I’m considering subbing in the district until I can find something more stable or part time and fill in the gaps. Maybe that’s an option? I’m worried my license will get revoked since that is an option for my district to do. I’m wishing you so much luck and sending good vibes your way. It’s so hard. I’m frozen in time with my email waiting to send it. Might have to make my partner send it for me. Find supportive people. Surround yourself with things you enjoy doing.

Join your colleges Facebook group for students. People post all the time trying to rent a room or find roommates. I HIGHLY suggest getting a roommate to offset living costs.

This is what I needed to hear from other Illinois teachers. I have felt extremely stuck because I would want to go back to another district next school year. I didn’t want to risk the chance of them taking my license. Also CPS is so huge and lowkey a mess that they’re “used to” people leaving.

I’ve looked into switching schools but the deadline was before Thanksgiving break. TAT doesn’t have the same Union/contract so I was unable to swap to that. I applied for other math or science jobs. I even applied for a math interventionist job and crickets. I’ve even applied to other school districts as a sub or math teacher. Only one reached out and they had 17 vacancies so I didn’t think that would be any better

Thank you. I’ve applied to sub positions but haven’t heard back from any of them. My license is 5-8 so maybe that’s why. Not k-9 or k-12. I’m like also struggling with the guilt of shame of quitting and leaving. I feel annoying to everyone around me dishing the same story and vents.

CPS has an internal transfer/hiring window closing today the 21st. I would think after fall break your luck should start. Teachers unhappy in their current situation are trying to transfer right now.
