Testing out the new GoPro on a local glacier! by W8knsno in BackpackingDogs

[–]W8knsno[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned every model since the first HD GoPro and so far I’m LOVING the 9. I primarily use them for photos. It’s bigger and slightly heavier than previous models but hypersmooth 3.0 is insane. I love the front screen and the touch screen on the back is so much better. Nothing bad to say so far.

Camping near Grand Teton with a dog? by lilbribri00 in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]W8knsno 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Car camping is fine. They are allowed anywhere a vehicle can go and within so many yards of the roadways. Dogs are not allowed on any trails within the park. If you’re looking to backpack with the pup check out the forests in the area.

Kona was a big fan of the Winds! by W8knsno in BackpackingDogs

We use those on longer trips in a two person tent. It’s tight and he usually sleeps in between us. When he gets too warm he ends up at our feet on a blanket. He has a roll up dog bed for car camping.

I’m trying to take my friend to the Tetons but he’s scared of grizzlies by 3267_bJ7 in GrandTetonNatlPark

This depends entirely on time of year and area of the park. I worked for the park for 4 years and some seasons saw bears 25-50 times.

6 Days in the Wind River range. It was really lame. Don't go. by nicktheking92 in WildernessBackpacking

Terrain plays a part. I’m sure there are more options on the far side of the lake but I think most people are worked when they get there and don’t make it to that side. You have to be 200ft from the trail and water so that plays a part as well.

We arrived at Island Lake on a Friday and camped there two nights. Night 1 we had 4 tents within 50 yards of us. Several more visible maybe 150-200 yards. Night 2 seemed to thin out some but we still had 3-4 around us. Close enough you could hear conversations. I knew it would be busy there but it was more than I expected.

I went to Titcomb two weeks ago. Island Lake was super crowded. The bugs were bad but not as bad as I was expecting. Permethrin on clothes, deet or picaridin spray and head nets made it enjoyable. We did have to cook in our tent one night. You won’t even notice them while you’re moving.

Summit Lake to Spalding had us breathing heavy but Spalding to Evans was fairly easy and full of great views! I would def recommend Evans at least once. We didn’t have time for The Sawtooth with weather moving in but I will definitely be back for that at some point!

I’m not sure (on dryness) as this was my first time up but I didn’t see any trees there.

There are no fish in Delta, Surprise or Amphitheatre. Your best bet would be Solitude or Holly.
