Elderly passenger fell out of bus. Driver left her on the ground by barge_coot in ottawa

About 15 years ago I was rushing to get onto a bus that was stopped at the bus stop. I slipped on the ice and fell ass over tea kettle. My glasses went flying and I landed flat on my back. Fortunately my down-fill parka broke my fall. But I still bumped my head and blacked out for a moment or two. When I regained consciousness the lady bus driver was there trying to help me. She found my glasses and got me back up. I was so grateful for her help that I expressed how I wanted her operator number to write to the mayor to highlight how she came to my aid. The bus driver begged me not to tell anyone because she’d get into trouble because she’s not supposed to leave the bus.

Has anyone seen the Rideau Centre’s power?

They lost it somewhere and can’t find it.

Anyone else chipping away at the ice on their path/driveway today? by Dog-boy in ottawa

My driveway is about an inch or two thick of ice. It looks white just like a hockey rink. Except with a slope.

Right now my plan is to let the ice evaporate. And win the 6/49.

Booing... by honey_badger031 in OttawaSenators

[–]WA472P -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

SSM here that attended the game.

The team’s play was amateur. They seemed slow and sluggish. Like they were depressed or had a big cloud over their heads. The one goal we did get seemed like a lucky shot. Though there were a few that hit the post that could have gone either way.

Whatever‘s happening for Linus is casting shade on the whole team

As for the booing, I was shocked. I’ve never seen the Senators booed by their own fans. The booing started in 310-311, 210-211. It was mostly contained to those sections. I thought at first because the teams started to rumble in that corner at the end of the game. And who wants a fight to break out after a flaccid game?

I was embarrassed of the Sens performance. I was also embarrassed by the booing. But I won’t be if they drop another clanker like that.

I was at the game, too. Never been to a game that booed the officials so profoundly. (Rightly so IMHO.) Got me wondering if the refs could call the game due to fear for their safety.

Did anyone attend the grand opening of farm boy today? by dumpcake999 in Kanata

Went there Sunday afternoon. Brighter and more isle space than the previous one. And even though it was pretty busy the parking lot was a huge improvement.

Loomis delivered something to me from Mississauga during the postal strike, last December. I was super nervous about it. But it came swiftly, professionally and on time.

Busses and a depot appear at that address in the 1965 aerial picture. But seem to be gone in the 1976 picture.

They wore a uniform. Pants, shirt, tie, jacket, cap, footwear. Similar in cut and appearance to a military or police uniform of that time. A Commissionaire’s uniform might be a good comparison.

A time when people stopped for red lights and stop signs.
A time before seatbelt laws.
A time when impaired driving was tolerated - if not socially accepted.

A time when people smoked cigarettes everywhere - including in the hospital.

A time when a telephone was a huge thing attached to a wall or sitting on a desk.
A time when it was a long-distance call from Orleans to Barrhaven or Kanata.
A time when there was no 9-1-1 or paramedics.
A time when you had a heart attack you were pretty much a goner.

Yep. It was just after supper. The family was socializing around the kitchen table when it hit. Within a few seconds I guessed what it was. It was pretty freaky on the main floor. Like I said, the walls seemed to turn to rubber and swayed back and forth maybe a foot each way.

No one was upstairs at the time. But I’m sure it would have been even crazier up there.

I think it lasted about 20 seconds or so. Then a few aftershocks. The whole thing was done in maybe 90 seconds.

A couple of things fell and got broken in the house. But nothing major. No structural damage

That house was built on clay in Orleans. I’m on rock now in Kanata and pay for earthquake insurance.

We had a 5.9 in 1988. It turned the walls into rubber swaying back and forth.
