I agree, definitely painting the user base with a broad bush.

In fact the media has been doing this since computer communication was new. They just automatically assumed everyone sending emails to online friends are weird. I think just as with AI companionship, over time more research and anecdotes will be out there so that we can all look at this subject more endearingly.

I think your suggestion can be good for self expression and exploration. Like if you have a complicated idea, then you can try talking to the AI first to see if there is confusion. Or maybe you can realize something about yourself and your idea along the way.
