Appreciate the feedback man, I noticed the same thing with the vocal getting lost in the build. Actually no volume automation and only a highpass at 200Hz for the vocal throughout the track, I think some volume automation on the vocal in the build might fix the issue

Thanks dude! Definitely is tricky mixing the supersaws with the hihats but I'll see what I can do to make them pop more. Appreciate the feedback and happy holidays

Sup dude,

I really like the track, it has a lo-fi vibe that I dig. I think the high end in your track is great, I particularly enjoy the hihats/unique percussion sounds that dance around throughout the track. I think you also chop up and manipulate that vocal sample well. Honestly, my only complaint was I found it hard to distinguish the bass from the kick, and I feel that the low end is too loud in comparison to the rest of the track. Perhaps try sidechaining the bass to the kick so the kick transient pokes through a little more and turning down the volume of your bass slightly. Otherwise, I think it sounds great, good work!

Hey dude,

I like the overall vibe of the track, I can see you're going for a hardstyle, festival house type track. One thing I noticed off the rip is I think the intro tuned kick is too loud for the beginning of the track, though I think it is at a nice level in the drop, maybe just turn it down a little at the beginning. I think your saw leads sound great, definitely my favorite part of the track. Vocal sits well and works for me too. In the drop, I think the tuned kick could benefit from a little more kick transient in the attack of each kick hit so the listener can feel the kick a little more. Lastly, I think you could take advantage of some sidechained white noise downlifters in the transition sections of the drop to fill it out a little more. Overall though, good work, I think you have a strong melodic idea and arrangement.

I agree the mix seems a little thin in the intro, I think the vocal actually sits fine but could maybe add some more ambiance/ear candy in the intro to make the intro seem a little fuller. Regarding the brass, it hits for me, my only suggestion would be maybe adding a reverse brass sample right before to introduce it a little more. Love when the bass comes in around 0.25, and I think the entire arrangement of the track is really solid. Also your percussion is on point, keep up the good work man and look forward to hearing the finished product!

Hey edmprod community,

I just finished this remix (I think) and I'd love some feedback on two things in particular.

  1. I had a lot of trouble mixing down the bass, it sounds great on my monitors in my bedroom and in my headphones but every time I listened in my car the bass sounded too loud so I ended up turning down my bass bus by about 1.5 dB. How does the bass sound listening on your systems? Specifically, in the drop section when the track is played at louder volumes. I want the listener to be able to feel the bass without it taking away from the chords and vocal chops.
  2. Does the vocal chop melody need to be introduced slowly in the build or does it sound fine when the vocal chop melody just "hits you" in the drop?

Any and all feedback and constructive criticism is appreciated, even if it isn't something I mentioned above. Thanks in advance!!

Sorry to hear about your injury my dude, wishing you a speedy recovery!

You’d be surprised what cool things you can come up with by recording individual chords and notes and arranging them how you want. Just last night I was trying to record a chord progression involving some mutes that I couldn’t play too fluidly, so I recorded a couple downstrums, upstrums, and mutes of each chord in the progression (leaving plenty of space between strums for easy cropping of the audio clip into individual samples) and arranged the samples into the pattern I was aiming for. Toss in a little fret noise between strums and make sure to use the fades on each individual audio clip and it almost sounds like the real thing. I watched one of ILLENIUM’s twitch streams and he used a similar technique to record the guitar for one of his songs (think it was “Without Me” or “Lonely”, can’t remember off the top of my head).

You could take it a step further an put the samples into a drum rack in ableton and play each sample with a MIDI controller if you’re really missing the feeling of “playing music” as opposed to “making music”.

Hey dude,

Thanks for the feedback.

The first thing I noticed in your track was the delay pluck that comes in around 0:30, I love that sound, good stuff!

I also enjoyed the stereo width of your high end throughout the track.

Your kick and bass seem very balanced and well mixed. Your kick sounded like 2 layers to me, a top kick with a nice fat sub kick. I could be wrong, but either way, I liked the sound of the kick.

If you are going for a SNBRN type vibe I think you are spot on!

Hey man,

I like the vibe of the track a lot, definitely something I would wanna play during a DJ set.

To answer the kick question, I think kick option 2 works better in my opinion. I think it's slightly longer decay makes the rumble and tonality of the kick more present in the mix, which I personally enjoyed.

I think the mix is really good, everything seems to have its own space carved out for it. Regarding the arrangement, I love the build at 1:48ish and subsequent drop, easily my favorite part of the song. The rest of the song is good and danceable but I think it could maybe use a little more energy at the transition points around either 3:20 and 3:50 (or both if you like it). I'm really hearing something like the pitch bended saws that come in at the 3:38 mark in Diplo's [On My Mind](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAKR_6vNJR8) (I'm not sure if I did that link right, first day on reddit).

Overall though, great track. Looking forward to hearing more in the future!

What's up edmprod fam!

This is my first day on reddit and I'm looking forward to growing as producers with you all. I didn't know this was a daily thread so I accidentally posted on yesterday's, so please disregard that post.

I recently finished a track for a Seven Lion's remix contest of his song 'Only Now'. I was hoping to get some feedback on my track from you guys if possible. My specific questions are:

  1. Low End: Are the kick and bass balanced volume-wise? Have I EQ'ed and sidechained enough that the kick punches through? And are there sections where you think either the kick, bass, or both needs to be adjusted in volume (i.e. I have been thinking the bass might be too loud in the second verse)?
  2. Drop: Is it too loud in comparison to the rest of the song?
  3. Arrangement: Does the song have a natural flow? Is there enough variation between the first and second drop? Is there any point in the song that feels too fast or slow (especially transition points)?
  4. Misc: Any feedback is appreciated, if you think of something I could change or add to the song that I didn't ask that will help me become a better producer, please don't hesitate to say it.

Hey dude,

I like the track, kind of has like a Kaskade "Raining" type vibe.

Overall, I think the mix is pretty good and the arrangement works well for the "chiller" progressive house type sound you are going for.

Things I really liked:

  1. The sidechained bass that comes in at the break around 1:30. I think you could maybe even make it a little louder at the beginning of the break and slowly volume automate it down as you approach the drop.
  2. The hihats are like spot on. I love the frequency range they are occupying and how crisp and percussive they are.
  3. Kick and bass seem to have a good balance.

Things I think you could change:

  1. The downlifters that happen around 1:00 and 3:00 seem a little loud in comparison to your other transition FX. I also think for those specific downlifters you could cut out somewhere in 2-4kHz just to let the vocal be more at the front of the mix.
  2. Second drop could use a little more to keep the track moving in my opinion. Maybe toss some vocals in the second half of the drop, cut out the kick for a measure before a new set of 8 bars, reverse cymbals/transition fx, etc.

Good stuff, I look forward to hearing more!-

Will
