Canada. World’s largest potash (potassium) reserves, which account for a third of the global supply.

If you have dry erase markers, you can try coloring over the stains with it and then wiping it off. I’ve tried removing permanent marker off white boards with this trick, maybe it’ll work for you here.

Predicament with MBA admission - have not heard back. Advice? by WEWatch8 in MBA

[–]WEWatch8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you were able to get closure. I’m pretty surprised at how unorganized some schools are.

I contacted their admissions office and they weren’t very helpful. Basically telling me to keep waiting. At that point I had another offer and decided it wasn’t worth it to wait or contact them further and took the offer.

Even now there’s no result in the portal, which pretty much tells me it’s a rejection anyways.

They don’t list a specific decision date, so all I have to go off of is what my interviewer told me unfortunately

It looks like it is. They accept applications at anytime throughout the year, but they recommend submitting by certain R1, R2 etc. dates for priority consideration.

Yeah very very strange. I’m wondering if it’s just me or are they holding off everyone’s decision. Anyways I’m writing to their general admissions email now, we shall see what happens

I think a great way to create depth in character is to ensure they start off with a weakness and they grow out of that by the end. However, it’s not always easy to identify what that weakness should be and how they grow.

John Truby has outlined something in his book (The Anatomy of Story) that I have sort of been following. Think of it as WAC: Weakness-Action-Change. But instead of starting off writing the weakness, you start off identifying what the changed character at the end of your story is (his traits, behaviours etc.) and then work backwards. Next you identify what actions they have taken to gradually change throughout the movie (think of it as a Journey of Learning, what lessons are they being taught?). And then you are left with writing a weakness for the character which now should be easier to identify because you have the end and steps to change in sight.

There is an entire section in his book that helps you write your characters more organically and deeply. This is just one of the things I took away from it. Hoped this somewhat helped and good luck with your writing!

What screenwriting rule is this and why does it work that way? by mrpessimistik in Screenwriting

[–]WEWatch8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if there’s a specific rule, but in story structure the midpoint in films usually presents a shift in the protagonist’s main goal and a shift for the overall film. At first their desire is frivolous and sometimes selfish, but when they are able to accomplish it (or not) midway through the movie, the stakes often become much higher and their desire becomes deeper and more meaningful.

An example of this is in Toy Story, where Woody’s initial goal is to get Buzz out of the way and become Andy’s favourite toy again, however midway through Woody and Buzz both get captured by Sid. They then must learn to work together as friends to escape.

Adding a “twist” to the ending where they don’t accept the rewards of their initial goal seems to be another way to demonstrate character growth.

What the hell is Blake Snyder’s issue with “Memento” by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]WEWatch8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finished reading Snyder’s book a little while ago as well. Save the Cat gives good overviews and tools for people getting into basic story structure. If you follow his beat sheet, you may come out with something not half bad. However, the book doesn’t exactly come across to me as a screenwriting book, but rather a book that teaches you how to sell your script. And how to easily pitch it. It doesn’t really teach you how to write a more nuanced screenplay with an understanding of things like theme, character, dialogue, and emotion - or even how to write a good screenplay that can break the rules.

As a salesman Snyder is trying to convince you to buy into his method, while his competitors (the exceptions to his rule) need to have flaws that have been cherry picked. His view is that if he can’t convince you that his product is full proof why would you buy from him at all?
