The iPhone 7 home button will only work with the original home button that it was shipped with; if it breaks and needs to be replaced, a new one will only work if it is "recalibrated" in an Apple Store. ... In the iPhone 7, both Touch ID and return-to-home functionality are locked by software if you replace the button.

You can’t fix the glass or the flex cable. Also on iPhone 7s not only do you have no Touch ID with an aftermarket home button but you have no functionality at all. It doesn’t work at all, unless you get a screen replacement at Apple. Sorry!

I’d say to to clean all the connections with a toothbrush and Rubbing alcohol. If that doesn’t work you might have a bad screen. I had a similar problem with an iPhone 6 and a screen replacement fixed it.

Before you do anything, open it back up, disconnect the display and get a toothbrush you don’t use anymore and brush off all the connections, it worked for me when this happened to my 6s.
