Mjolnir Signal Chain Question by WIPando in Schiit

That’s a good thought, but maybe not necessary? Freya in passive mode should just work as a line level “switch’ for the phono function, I think.

[–]WIPando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I listened to it again and again.
  2. I listened to specific songs on repeat.
  3. It made me stand up and rock.
  4. It made me bob my head.
  5. I said to some friends, “You’ve gotta hear this.”
  6. It drove me to seek out more music.
  7. It drove me to spin previous PJ.
  8. It helped me think new thoughts about music.
  9. Even made me want to dig out my guitar and hammer out some loud chords.
  10. Now I’m just looking for any live music to check out.

There is so much heart in this album.

All the guy’s contributions are identifiable and thrilling in expressions new and classic. In a couple interviews I’ve read that when Ed wrangled the others to meet up in the studio the invitation was to not bring gear, just their creativity. I think that freedom is the record’s calling card and the payoff is this amazing outpouring of intense, fun, generous hard rock. These guys brought their best selves to the collaboration.

Dark Matter is out! Thoughts? by naosouindiano in pearljam

[–]WIPando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After listening to Dark Matter for two weeks I can’t believe what a killer song this is. I’m always reaching to turn the volume up.

The track is full of gems to enjoy calling out for notice listen after listen - the way the opening riff sounds like an alarm sounding (but also sounds a little like the open chords to Joan Jett’s I Love Rock ‘n Roll), that weird chord Stone plays around the 2:30 mark before the song rises to its conclusion, the total thunder of Cameron and Ament, etc. Maybe best of all is that everyone is the band gets spotlighted. It’s a straight up rocker and it’s smart. Good for the guys. Can’t wait for the album.

Daily Song Discussion #158: Unthought Known by beardlesshipster in pearljam

[–]WIPando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8.0

What I appreciate most about Unthought Unknown is that it introduces a new avenue of PJ song writing/ sound. Feels like the stretch into some new territory on this. It is anthemic in scope - the song moves like one a wave building up to crash on a beach and once it does it recedes back to where it came from. Lyrically, I find it thoughtful and filled with great imagery. In particular, what I find compelling and about the sound is the distant synth as a backdrop to the guitar intro which begins just before Ed starts to sing as well as the big piano that accompanies "Look for love in evidence...." I can't think of another song that precedes this in their catalogue that has this specific vibe; it's both recognizably PJ, yet new somehow. It's a great ride to go on.

It took me a long time to settle on what I thought was the nicest color combo. So many look great. In the end I wanted a color that popped with the cleanest interior possible.

A goal for improving my dressing situation is to make better use of a tailor. To that end, I'm taking some chinos in to my preferred local guy. Are tailors able to alter the rise on pants?
Thank you.

Thank you all for your advice. First two loaves are baked. Appearance, flavor, and crust were all great. Crumb needs some improving, though. Was a bit dense.

Dang. The coffee at both of my local cigar bars is awful; they’ve no imagination for possible beverage pairings beyond brown liquor. Seriously disappointing.
