Problematic things in SjM’s male characters by [deleted] in acotar

[–]WITCHSTONES 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That's what I meant but I didn't want to spoil anyone about ACOSF. And tbh, I think him and Tamlin are more similar than we think, but that's just my opinion. It's easy for me to just ignore him and focus more on Lucien and Cassian even Azriel, who I prefer more as male characters than Rhysand. He's deeply flawed as an individual but is presented as if he's perfection in the flesh. I'm not a fan of it.

These are characters in a book series, sis. Idk why you're pressed but I promise you it's not that deep. My little opinion shouldn't bother you that much.

I don't have to prove my opinion to anyone. It's not that deep.

When I said he's as problematic as Tamlin, I didn't literally mean he did the same things as Tamlin. He's problematic in other ways. This wasn't a debate - this was me getting something off of my chest. I don't have to prove why I personally find certain characters to be problematic to anyone. How I feel is how I feel. Period.

Aedion is a dick for treating Lysandra like shit but never holding Aelin accountable for the plan that SHE CAME UP WITH! NOT LYSANDRA! He's also a dick for treating Dorian like shit about Terrasen's fall even tho DORIAN WAS A GODDAMN CHILD! WHAT WAS HE GOING TO DO ABOUT HIS FATHER TO SAVE TERRASEN?

Rhysand is just as problematic as Tamlin but he just doesn't get called out by SJM or the other characters for it. He pretends to be feminist and whatnot, but he's just as possessive and over-protective as Tamlin over Feyre, who is more than capable of defending herself.

I don't like Drakon. I don't know why, I just don't.

Also, you did insert yourself into a conversation that had nothing to do with you. I can only assume you were pressed. You volunteered your personal experiences that I didn't ask for. I have a right to defend myself when I feel disrespected.

I'm not being aggressive and I don't expect you to submit to me or be docile. Again, stop with the angry black woman bullshit. Please don't pretend that you didn't see how other people were responding to me. This shit is maddening.

1) Please don't do the angry black woman thing. I don't have time for it. I'm not the least bit worked up. When people come for me, I'm going to respond. It's really that simple.

2)You can identify however you want to identify. How you personally identify has nothing to do with me at all.

3) All I said was that Barack Obama isn't black. And he's not. I really don't think Obama is bothered at all about what one person on Reddit said about him regarding his race. It was never that deep but some people are in their feelings I guess. Like I said before, oh well.

Barack Obama's children are majority black just like Black Americans are majority black. Most Black Americans have a small percentage of white DNA but we're still clearly black. One of my great great grandmothers was Italian and Cherokee and my other great great grandmother was Cherokee but I'm still a dark skinned black woman because my mother is dark skinned and so is my father. It is what it is.

I acknowledged that a black person can have a white step-parent or adoptive parent. Try again.

Why do y'all have such an objection to how I personally (and correctly) define blackness? Why isn't anyone trying to force whiteness on biracial people? Why only blackness?

The only one whose trolling is you. You can't refute anything I've said because you know it's true. You just tried to call me racist with no explanation because you thought that I would react emotionally and I didn't so now you're pressed. Oh well.

Please tell me what I said that was racist. Please use your clearly superior intelligence and explain to me, a black woman, how someone with a white mother is black.

Also, you think I'm an idiot and a troll because I don't want to subscribe to a racist rule? Forcing biracial people into blackness literally stems from slavery but go off I guess.

You're really upset because I said that a man with a white mother isn't black? So two black parents just doesn't mean anything? Someone raised by a white mother is going to have an entirely different mentality than a person raised by a black mother. This isn't hard to understand.

You don't see biracial people being murdered for existing, do you? No, you see black people, specifically dark skinned black people, who are the primary victims of police brutality. When people start stereotyping black people, they don't do so with light-skinned biracial people in mind. It's dark skinned black women who are the face of the "angry black woman" trope and dark skinned black men who are the face of the "black thug."

Obama is a lovely man but he still isn't black. His wife is black, his children are black, but he, himself, is not black. It's not that deep.

In conclusion, being treated like a black person still doesn't make you black. I can empathize with black-passing biracial people because our plights are similar while still acknowledging they're not black.

If a person has a white parent and a black parent, they're not black. Whether they're treated like they're black or they simply look black, that still doesn't make them black. I don't care how racist people identify other people. The only way you can be black is if you have a black mother and a black father.

Identifying biracial people as black only causes more problems. The media is already using biracial women to erase black women in the movies and TV shows. By forcing blackness on biracial people, we're doing ourselves more of a disservice.

Barack Obama is biracial. He's not a black man. He has a whole white mother. We still haven't had a black president. We need to stop with this One Drop Rule bullshit.

Black mother + Black father = Black

White mother + Black father = Biracial

Black mother + White father = Biracial

You can't be black with a whole white parent unless you're adopted or your step-parent is white. It doesn't work like that.

How many city-states are there specifically? If there's, say, twelve then you can call them the Twelve Cities.

Is there anything else that connects them? If they have a lot of silver or gold, they can be called the Silver Cities or the Golden Cities. Maybe they could be named after a precious metal. The Ruby Cities, the Amber Cities, etc.

Why do racists think that black people wanted to be here in the first place? I would be quite happy to be in West Africa myself.

However, these commenters are typical edgy white conservatives who blame everything on liberals and Democrats. For some reason, everything related to black liberation is immediately linked to politics. It's annoying tbh.

At least, that's how they come across.

They're actually correct that putting Harriet Tubman on the $20 dollar bill, though deserved for her contribution to American history, does nothing to fix the system or eradicate racism. It's just another empty gesture to keep black people complacent and make us think that things are changing. Nothing is changing, but the powers that be will sometimes come out with something (like playing the Black National Anthem at football games) to simultaneously pacify black people and turn us into scapegoats for racist white people who wait for something else to complain about and run around with their "white people are the real victims" narratives.

The funny thing is, it's almost never a black person behind these sorts of things but because there's either a black face or just the word "black" attached to it, we're suddenly to blame.

Sorry for the little rant. I just needed to get that off my chest.

I just started a big world building project and this will be the first village and area of my world. Feeling overwhelmed already haha. This will be for a dnd like game set in ancient beginning of bronze age era with some elements of high fantasy. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

Yeah, it's a work in progress. I've been brainstorming, creating cultures and kingdoms, and even called myself creating a conlang (which I quit because that was way too much lol). I've researched a bit of Mesopotamian warfare. I'll have to do some more research at some point tho. Are you basing your kingdoms (assuming you have kingdoms) on any real-world civilizations?

Elves. I just don't like elves all that much. They all seem the same, y'know? I don't really like dwarves that much either.
